I am going to be perfectly honest, I don't like Dwight Howard. If he was an NFL wide receiver he would have been labeled a DIVA a long time ago. He demands attention 24/7 and forces people out when he doesn't get what he wants. Terrell Owens couldn't even do that.
This post isn't about my personal feeliings about Howard, it's about whether or not Howard is a player you should want your team to go all out for. If Howard becomes a free agent next summer and the Sixers clear up enough cap space, Philly will be a possible destination.
Should we want that to happen.
Talent wise yes. What about past that? Would he be good for a locker room. How does his character hold up during a tough playoff loss or when the coaches get on him for not running hard down the court or getting lazy on defense. It just seems like he has made himself bigger than his team. Like this teammates, coaches, GM and pretty much the entire franchise or just blessed to have a player of his magnitude.
Do we really want that in Philadelphia? Personally I don't. I want the Sixers to go out and get a 20 and 10 type of center in the near future. Don't just focus on the numbers or his "Superstar" status. Sports are bigger than that. Even in the NBA, your star player has to make everyone else better around the,. You can't do that when you expect even your second best player to be kissing the ass out of this DIVA.
Let's hope Howard signs a long term deal with a Western Conference team so we can A) stop hearing about his trade talk every single day and B) Not have to worry about him in the playoffs unless we make it the the Finals.
I'm not saying he is a bad player, because he isn't. He is a great player. He just doesn't come off to me as a championship caliber player who is going to be a headache for his franchise for years to come.
