It seems that there are quite few people that seem to think Harkless was a bad pick because he duplicates what we already have. Wing players that can't shoot. Well first of all Andre has not been a great shooter the last couple of years but to say he can not shoot is just wrong. Second of all Harkless might be able to shoot better than some people think. No I am not talking about the 30 for 50 or what ever he shot at his workout. From the tape I have been able to find (including from swishscout.com) he does not have a bad shot just bad results. Most of the blame for his bad results I think lies with two major factors. One being he was the best player on a struggling young team. It seemed he would often force shots that he should not have taken because of this. He seemed to struggle with this more when his team was down. Another being he is only 19, and is still growing and getting used to how to control his body while playing. To go along with the fact in 2010- 2011 he was 6'6" 180 lbs, in college he was listed at 6'8" 208 lbs, at the combine he was listed at 6'9" and 209 lbs. Considering that some areas of the game he plays with good to great athletic ability and fluidity it would not be a shock to see his shooting improve with time. Shot selection/shot mechanics sometimes can be a tough thing to teach when you have a player who is immature, has a low Basketball IQ, or to much of a ego. From the few interview I have seen I would say that none of those issues would seem to be a big problem for him. So shot selection and improved coaching and more time to focus on his craft he should be able to improve both his shot selection and the mechanics of his shot and thus his results. I know his college stats are bad and some one asked if anyone with similar stats ever became a decent to good shooter in the NBA. Well I may have found a better player to compare him to on the NBA level in Tayshaun Prince. Then again if you do not think Tayshaun Prince is a good NBA shooter thats up to you, but I would not say he can't shoot. I also think Maurice has a chance to be a better player and shooter than Prince.
