Atlanta's cap situation does no one any favors, and Danny Ferry is in a tough spot. Josh Smith has announced he wants to leave Atlanta in free agency, and with a one year expiring contract he should be easy to move.
Could the Sixers sign/trade Lou Williams at plus Thad Young and deal them to the Hawks for Josh Smith? That would be a nice way to fill the tough, post defender void on the Sixers - and both Lou Williams and Thad have ATL ties.
Atlanta couldn't pursue Lou as a free agent if they wanted to because they are capped out and will cost more than the mid level exception. This could be a way for Collins to take care of the BOSS while filling a big void for the 76ers.
