The Depthiest: Sixers Outlast Hawks Again Immediate Reaction Thread

In the battle to determine who the better 16-7 team is, the Sixers and Hawks both failed because neither team is 16-7 anymore. But since the Sixers won the game 98-87, I'll give them the edge tonight.

Spencer Hawes is back.

Nikola Vucevic is back.

Evan Turner played great.

Boss.

But most importantly, TONY BATTIE DIDN'T PLAY.

Happy Saturday celebration - give me all of your post game thoughts.

Can anyone recap what happened in the 2nd quarter?

I don't understand...

Evan Turner has been struggling to shoot well lately, but tonight he goes 5 for 7 and then sits the entire 4th quarter? Seems like it would have been a great opportunity for him to gain some confidence if his shot kept falling.. and it seems like he lives and dies by confidence.

by jdeerhake on Feb 4, 2012 6:25 PM PST reply actions

I was wondering why he was not in. I would rather have him out there than having Lou out there.

Some guy at PSU Hershey Med Center just discovered a virus that eats cancer. Where were the CNN trucks for that? THON will probably break $10 mil this year. Put that on "Outside the Lines".

by Ben16 on Feb 4, 2012 6:29 PM PST up reply actions

Doug seems to lose patience when the offense stalls too much, and he tells Lou to go put on the poor man’s Iverson iso show. Turner is just gonna have to keep earning his minutes. 11/6/5 in only 23 minutes. Very impressive.

by PhillyWarrior on Feb 4, 2012 6:33 PM PST up reply actions

It is impressive. Hopefully he will continue to build on his performances.

It’s like he’s always in the dog house with doug. He’s our second best ball handler and I think He’s progressing nicely. I like lou and what he does but I hate when he and Evan are in together and Evan doesn’t handle ball.

Props to Doug Collins

I really didn’t think Dougie would trust Hawes and Vuce to be out there at the same time. Traditional coach speak: “Can’t have two slower bigs out there at the same time, blah blah…”

Doug went against the grain, and we held the lead at 20 with Wight and Vuce both out there. No offense to Lavoy who gives great effort and hustle, but I’d like to see that combo more often, especially against the Lakers when we have to hold off Bynum and Gasol.

Indiana dropped one at home to Orlando.

Knicks are struggling at home against the Nets.

Unfortunately, the Knicks choked against Boston yesterday. Really, we need to worry about winning the division, everything else is icing.

I dig Voy Wonder...

…being a Total Temple Homer and all, but sometimes he reminds me of the Evolutionary Reggie Evans. A “lunchpail” guy. Although he does seem to have more of an offensive game, and less of a propensity to grab people’s nutsacks.

Reggie Evans causes the opponent to rack up technical fouls with that stupid grin all the time. He was a fun guy. The crowd chanted “Reg-gie Reg-gie!” in a home playoff game I attended.

But yeah, Lavoy has a lot of that hustle. I think he has a chance to be a great defensive player in this league, he has a strong base. Very curious to see how he holds up vs. Bynum on Monday.

Great win but....

I’ve been real disappointed with Holiday this season. He looks to score first and pass second. Anyways, great game by ET after a bad game and hopefully Iggys all star effort gets recognized.

by Tj Singh on Feb 4, 2012 6:40 PM PST via mobile reply actions

Holiday looks lost this year at times. I know what’s wrong with him, but I can’t seem to figure out why. I hope it’s not Doug busting balls too much.

So frustrating because he shows flashes of brilliance all time.

Another quality win, going on to a winning team’s home court and kicking their butts. Loved the combo of Hawes and Vucevic. Important to note they almost hit 100 without Elton Brand.

We could have learned a lot more about the team if Doug played our bigs yesterday, but I guess it’s just as well. We will have to wonder if the Sixers are good enough to win a title, but they now seem to have all the pieces.

by RickoT on Feb 4, 2012 6:45 PM PST reply actions

100% agreed

Really frustrated that we didn’t get to see what Hawes or Vuce could have done vs. the Heat.

I cant wait til we wipe Boston’s proverbial “face” up and down the floor. Weird they haven’t played each other yet.

Impressive bounce-back win after a tough loss yesterday. I love how resilient this team is – DC not only has them playing the right way, he seems to be doing a good job of keeping them focused on winning the next game. The Hawes/Vuce combo looked good and will be handy against teams with bigger front lines, and I’m more and more convinced that Lavoy Allen is a keeper. Right now I think the Sixers are arguably the 2nd best team in the conference, with only the Heat clearly being better than they are. Now they just need to figure out how to match up better with those guys.

by Xeynon on Feb 4, 2012 8:04 PM PST via mobile reply actions

Vuce and Allen are both going to be good nba players. With Thad we just need that dominant C to round out what would be a good, deep front court to compliment our young guards. Did you here that Dwight?! Youre all we need!

A win on the road versus the Lakers

would make me extremely happy and if they beat both the lakers and clips I think people will start talking about them a lot more.

You’re going to have to wait until next season for a win on the road against the Lakers. Sixers do not have a trip to LA this season. Monday’s game is at home ;)
