Sixers 79, Heat 99: Death by Iso-Ball Post-Game Thread
Well that was an ugly offensive showing in the fourth quarter (and really the second half). Iso play after iso play after fadeaway long-two took the Sixers out of the game and allowed the Heat to run away with the victory.
Post-game it up or go out for a drink. Whatever you guys want.

sixers 2 losses to heat by combined 41. 5 losses to rest of league by 24.
It ain't rock, it ain't roll, if we don't disagree
we just match up horribly against them.. but that last quarter by us was inexcusably bad

Both losses are on Doug Collins, IMO

Disagree...
Don’t know if we win the first one but I don’t think we get blown out if Vuce gets hurt
The Legend
he didn’t play ET in the third until the last minute when he kept them in the game in the 2nd.

Execution is one thing but poor rotations (Vooch got in at the end of the game) and non-coaching when it came to all those Iso’s. C’mon man.

vuce should get more consistent playing time now that he is much much closer to 100% than he was a few games ago when he first suited up

Once the Heat were making their shots, Sixers did not change defensivley

Sixers didn't have Luol Deng or Rip Hamilton
Miami hasn’t beat anyone yet. Overrated frauds.
it’s a flat out terrible matchup. they are good offensively at positions we can’t defend. add to that a remarkable ability to just kill from 3 against us, and this is what you get.
It ain't rock, it ain't roll, if we don't disagree
Would be nice to play the Heat with any of our best big men, but man did Doug coach this game like he was playing NBA Jam on his PC.

I disagree that we match up poorly with the Heat – the team just needs to play them for a full four quarters.

plus Brand and Battie
had bad games. If Brand had at least 12 points…
That's like your opinion, man.
how so? Lebron makes iggy work so hard defensively that he can’t contribute as well offensively. Wade and Jodie might be the biggest mismatch in the league if it weren’t for bosh and brand. 2 out of those 3 can flat out kill their matchup 1 on 1 which forces help and miller is a deadeye now and chalmers is great at finding space for open 3s.
It ain't rock, it ain't roll, if we don't disagree
I think Dre can contribute on offense just as well as he would any other time – besides, if he’s playing good D on Lebron, a steal, block, basically a stop can be turned into points on the other end. Anyway, yes, the Heat’s offense is good but so is the Sixers D and as they really showed in the third quarter, and various stretches of past games, they are capable of locking down on the Heat. It wasn’t fantastic Heat defense that shut the Sixers down, it was the Sixers failing to take advantage of and going into iso mode instead of moving the ball like they had been earlier. In closing, if the Sixers can play ‘their style offense’ the entire 4 quarters, the games will go a lot better.
But that’s true for every team that plays the heat. Fact is we’ve got as good or better wing defense than any team in the league, and we forced them to take jump shots. Main problem wasn’t Lebron and Wade, it was not closing out on everyone else, which isn’t a matchup problem, it’s a decision making & effort problem. It’s also a problem that can be fixed.
Battie has surprised me with how he’s played since filling in for Hawes & Vuce but now that Vuce is healthy I think it’s time to go back to Vuce. Doug says we’re missing Spence, Vuce is a lot more like Spence then Battie is
The Legend
Battie does not fit well at all playing against an athletic team like Miami.

Fair enough but we’re able to mask his ineffectiveness better when guys aren’t flying by him.

lol. to me the bigs we have right now are good against physical bigs, but not against guys who stretch the floor and are athletic. it’s okay against some teams, but the heat are built in such a way that it just fits perfectly for them.
It ain't rock, it ain't roll, if we don't disagree
Yeah
And usually, bigger, slower big guys are post-up threats offensively. We’ve got slower big men who are primarily face-the-basket players offensively, which is the worst of both worlds when facing Bosh. They can’t defend him away from the basket when Miami has the ball, and they can’t take advantage of his weakness as a post defender when we have it. Getting a long, athletic high flyer type to insert into the forward/center rotation would really improve this team.

If it's a drinking game...
Find a buddy who runs and arc-lessly tosses the shot glass toward your face. If your nose breaks, call it BOSSCON-1 and the game ends.
Awful, awful 4th quarter
A bit of it was bad luck, and a bit of it was the refs (the Heat seemed to get every call even if it was a phantom foul), but the Sixers do not match up well with the Heat as everyone says. The Heat took it to another level defensively and the Sixers offense broke down and started turning the ball over and taking bad shots, combine that with Heat making seemingly every shot down the stretch and this is what you get.
To beat them when they clamp down like that, we’re going to need more composure from our ball handlers, as well as better ball movement. Getting Hawes back will help, but Holiday and Turner just need more experience so they learn not to panic when the other team starts defending them like that. There is always a man open, moreso when you’ve got two guys in your grill, you just need to develop the awareness it takes to see the traps coming and move the ball out. No substitute for experience.
Also, we gotta make open shots. The Sixers bricked quite a few open jumpers in the first three quarters and having those points would have helped.
ET was horrible tonight. So was Brand. That this game was close is all about the defense containing them for long enough. Just couldn’t do it in the 4th.
Just noticed Turner has no boards nor assists. A Bill Green effort right there.

I despise the espn halftime crew.
“Some of us had them as contenders….” speaking about the Sixers loss tonight.
the word “had” bugs me

Honestly, they don’t watch the games. We’re 1/3rd into the season, not in the cusp of the playoffs.

Let's be real
We’re not nearly as good as Miami. I love our guys and all but there’s a pretty substantial gap in talent. They have the three best players on the floor most of the time.
Bosh has played really well this year.

give credit where it's due.
Bosh is a great player. He may be “3rd fiddle” over there, but he’s an All-Star

All star, yes
but Wade and Lebron are on a different level than Bosh.
That's like your opinion, man.
I don’t think they should be comparable since they all play different roles.

“Great” is an overstatement. Good, yes. All-star level, yes. But a great player is a guy who can single-handedly raise the level of play of his teammates, and as he proved in Toronto, Bosh can’t do that. There are probably only a dozen or so great players in the league right now, and Bosh isn’t one of them.
Again, I don’t think he should be compared to guys like Lebron and Wade because he’s not a guy that brings the ball up the court, etc. He’s great because he plays well on both sides of the court and when his jump shot is falling, he’s pretty hard to stop.

C’mon. One of the reasons he’s so effective on both ends of the court is precisely because he’s the third fiddle. He doesn’t get all those open shots if he’s the number one option – having teammates like Wade and James can make anybody look better than they are. Are Mike Miller, Norris Cole, and Mario Chalmers great players because their jump shots were falling?
Bosh is a good player. But it’s debatable whether he’s even in the top 20 guys in the NBA, much less the top 10. Therefore, he’s not great.
Not if we continue to do well in this tough stretch.
If we beat both LAs and San Anton, Im even more confident that I was after the Wednesday night.

All three of those teams have losing records on the road this year so far, if I had to be worried about one it would be the Clippers

How many games would Miami win?
Vs. Orlando
Vs. Chicago
Vs. Philly
@ ATL
Vs. LAL
Vs. San Antonio
Vs. LAC
I’m thinking 5-2. So, let’s shoot for that.
It’s a road game tmrrw? Oh piss.

I've seen this game before
Get within 4, Miami pulls away. All in all this was an ugly game from both teams. This was where I was 20 minutes after the game, as reported on Facebook:
“I am grateful for the kid at the Wawa who tolerated my whining after the severely deflating Sixers loss. “You see, what had happened was…and then it was 61-61…Elton just didn’t have it tonight…Mark Cuban’s right about the refs…they held em to 0 for 9 coming out of the half, but they only shot 1-9 themselves…” I hope that kid gets a promotion."
We’ll get over it. A nice thrashing of Atlanta (cross-sports pun intended) will make us feel a little better.
Coming off an embarrassing loss to the Bucks...
Plus the the sixers resurgence means the Six are on everyone’s radar now – Miami was ready to go. I love this team but we’re just not at Miami’s level yet. Few teams are. No shame in that. This is a damn good team we have in this town but we need a move or two to get there.
