I can’t wait to see what happens when Lin has to play with Melo.

Here we go...

I want the Sixers to win tonight. That’s obvious. But almost more than that, I’d just like to see them play well again. Enough of these crappy or inconsistent performances.

On another note… I need to rant. I’m so tired of the Lin / Knicks. It’s just so unfair. That team was practically dead and buried. I think he’s a good player, and I love the story. I’d like to root for him, but I just can’t do it. I passionately hate the Knicks / Knicks ‘fans’ / NY fans. It seems just like when the Sixers were really proving themselves as a legitimate team, the whole Lin thing had to happen and ruin it all. And since then, the Sixers haven’t even really played well. Really frustrating. I understand the Sixers are still doing better than the Knicks, and I can enjoy that right now, but I’m not sure how long that’ll last the way both of these teams are playing. It is worth noting that the Knicks have had the easiest schedule in the NBA so far, I guess.

/end rant

by PhiladelphiaEagles on Feb 19, 2012 3:52 PM PST reply actions

I’ve already done a lot of ranting on it so I won’t right now but I do have a question for everyone would the guy that got fired by ESPN for the headline be unemployed right now if he had written the “chink in the armor” headline if Lin wasn’t Asian? Also maybe I’m a a-hole but I thought it was funny

The Legend

by KJ Brophy on Feb 19, 2012 4:05 PM PST up reply actions

If Lin wasn’t Asian, I don’t think the writer would have used that title.

by PhiladelphiaEagles on Feb 19, 2012 4:09 PM PST up reply actions

didn’t think about that but I’ve heard that phrase used before with people who aren’t Asian you’re probably right though

The Legend

by KJ Brophy on Feb 19, 2012 4:11 PM PST up reply actions

Sure, but I doubt they would have randomly applied it there.

by PhiladelphiaEagles on Feb 19, 2012 4:12 PM PST up reply actions

Speaking of racism. Four white starters for the Timberwolves. Just figured I’d mention it.

by yosoysean on Feb 19, 2012 4:15 PM PST up reply actions

I chuckled. And two people got fired and 1 suspended over that.

I thought it was only one that got fired? I know one got suspended

The Legend

by KJ Brophy on Feb 19, 2012 4:12 PM PST up reply actions

No, he wouldn’t, because “chink in the armor” is a phrase used in everyday life. So had they used it for a white person, it is a non-story.

ESPN also suspended Max Bretos for a month for using that phrase on the air on ESPNEWS on Wednesday, which I find to be a complete over-reaction. I saw the video of him using it, and for the life of me, I could not find any malicious or punny intent on his part. That suspension was just ESPN covering their own hides because the video had made its way around the internet. Max Bretos did not do himself any favors by playing the “I have an Asian wife” card.

by Justin F. on Feb 19, 2012 4:12 PM PST up reply actions

I saw that video too & I agree complete over-reaction, something I’ve been wondering is if Lin starts next year & doesn’t do nearly as well if we should still write in pen him as a starter for the all star game because there were years when Yao was injured & he was still a starter because all of Asia voted for him. If that happens & Lin doesn’t deserve Stern better do something about it

The Legend

by KJ Brophy on Feb 19, 2012 4:22 PM PST up reply actions

I think Lin is the long term may actually be hurting the Knicks. With Melo and Chandler they have the personnel to eventually challenge for a title, but D’antoni is a terrible coach and Lin saved his job. In the long term the Knicks would be scary with a real coach.

agreed. and he needs to stop taking long twos while he’s at it. He is fully capable of breaking down his man, getting to the mid-range and hitting the J. I’m not sure why he settles sometimes.

This is an aspect to his game that Igudala doesn’t really have, and sets Turner apart. I would really like to see this from him more often.

I tuned into a random Royal Rumble match few years back; about 15 guys in the ring, fake punches and kicks all over the place. I think at that particular time everybody got tired at the same time, and guys were just resorting to the fake chop block. It was quite possibly one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen, friends and I laughed out loud for a good 1/2 hour. Needless to say, I tune in everyone once in awhile for the lulz. Great stuff.

by mrprice33 on Feb 19, 2012 5:19 PM PST up reply actions

It’s like in baseball. Let’s say your 4th starter is awesome. You’d want him to go up against the other team’s 4th starter every time it was possible. It’s a huge advantage. If you think your bench is that much better than the other team’s bench, you’d want to maximize that advantage.

That’s a way I could justify it.
