Hawes' continued absence may not increase chance of a trade

Had a 15-minute chat with Rod Thorn today and wrote a story off of it (Sixers' practice was optional and there was no media availability).

My twitter handle is: @tmoorepburbs

Here is a portion of the story:

"We have several guys we play at center," said Thorn, referring primarily to rookies Nikola Vucevic, Lavoy Allen from Temple and starting power forward Elton Brand.

"Anybody we can possibly get, are they going to be better than guys we have? I don't think so unless we give up one of our top players. I don't see anything happening right now. That may change."

Tom, not saying he should be but would you be surprised if Lou got traded since he can opt out at the end of the year?

It would have to be for someone really good or a lottery pick. Otherwise there would be no point in trading him.

Also, how did you get your twitter link in your signature?

I agree that Williams is unlikely to be dealt unless the Sixers get a really good package in return.

As for the twitter link to my signature, I think what you’re referring to is a hyperlink we can use when we write our stories in Blox.

Thanks, that’s what I thought when I heard about him possibly opting out I wondered if they might try & get something for him since he might not be easy to re-sign

tst29- this link tells you how to

It depends. Not sure how much of a market there’ll be for Williams at more than the $6.4 million he’s scheduled to earn in 2012-13. He’s very good as a scorer off the bench, but not sure how many teams he’d start for as a 6-1 shooting guard. Will be interesting to see.

Williams has scored more points (4,367) than any NBA player since start of 2007-08 season with fewer than 40 starts. Jason Terry (67 starts) and Jamal Crawford (211 starts) have scored 1,000-plus more points than LouWill, but have made too many starts.

I think some teams will view Lou as a starter. Didn’t Marcus Thornton make about 8 million this year?

It's Sacramento

they don’t see much past the PPG stat.

i’m all for a deal but completely against lou, thad, iggy, jrue, evan, or the rookies being moved. i think that we can get a decent piece by moving hawes, and/or nocioni, and/or picks and including elton if you must for financial reasons. this team doent need much but someone who is over 6’8 and can bench press 250.

kaman’s not shaq but he is big enough to hold his own down low and can contribute in the right system and also would not require much in trade. not to mention his contract is expiring and leaves us a good option if collins cant “get the best out of him”

we just get beat up down low to point where its not even funny.

ok, now re-read in Doug Collins' voice...

Kaman can score and rebound, but isn’t much of a passer. He could end up being bought out by the Hornets after the March 15 trade deadline if New Orleans doesn’t deal him. Then, another team could sign him for the stretch run (the Heat supposedly are interested).

yeah

people keep on saying we should get Kaman, even the geeks over at TBJ…but I just don’t see the 76ers doing that. He doesn’t do enough to warrant any drastic moves.

by YBT on Feb 17, 2012 2:19 PM PST up reply actions

Doesn't do enough?

he anchors the paint on both ends, rebounds well and has good offensive variety. Sixers don’t need a Dwight Howard (although it’d be nice) but they need something more dependable than a broken down Hawes, overhyped Lavoy and kid Vucevic.
