Humphries or Odom for the Sixers? (this is not Kardashian related)

Reality TV BS aside, they're actually two pretty interesting moves that the Sixers could make without giving up a ton and might help solve some of their size issues.

Humphries is an unrestricted free agent so he'd be a strict rental for the rest of the season (and is tradeable on March 1st).

Odom has a team option for next year at 8.2 million which I would assume the Sixers would probably decline unless he blew up so he could be a rental.

Humphries is averaging 13 and 10 and would be a good of the bench replacement for Brand or Hawes to grab boards. Odom is having a terrible year by his standards (8 and 5), but a lot of that is they just haven't figured out where he fits in Dallas. The way Collins has been able to maxmize the abilities of his role players, I have to think he could find a way to utilize Odom.

Because both would be rentals, what would we really be talking about giving up to get either of these guys? Nocioni's expiring and picks (the Speights trade picks)? Nocioni's expiring, Allen (who is actually a restricted free agent this offseason because the Sixers screwed up his rookie contract so he won't be nearly as cheap as he should be if they keep him) and picks?

I can’t see the Nets trading Humphries when they still think they can get Dwight. His $8 mil expiring contract is pretty valuable when trying to trade for a high salaried player in a trade in which you might also have to match for a bad salary as well.

As for Odom I don’t really see the point. He’s playing for a playoff team and not playing all that well. I don’t see a reason Dallas would want to trade him and don’t really see a reason why we’d want him.

The Howard thing is clearly what will dictate how the trading deadline goes. I think that it’s a long shot the Nets trade for him, though. If you’re the Magic and you’re going to trade him, I don’t know how you don’t take a Bynum deal over a Lopez deal and honestly I could see them letting Dwight play out the year and forcing him to chose to turn down the extra 30 million the Magic can offer him over anyone else.

If the Nets don’t trade for Howard, then they go into dump mode and I think Humphries is very attainable at that point.

The point of an Odom deal is that he doesn’t fit Dallas. He’s only playing 20 minutes a game (as opposed to 32 last year), he doesn’t really have a slot on that team because of Dirk and Wright, and if he’s not going to be a big factor in Dallas’ playoff rotation, why wouldn’t you look to move him if you can get a younger piece (like an Allen, or draft picks).

He’d be a more natural backup to Brand, and if he got more minutes in the Sixers rotaton, my hunch is he’d play a lot better.

But why would DAL trade Odom? He’s expiring anyway and much more talented than Nocioni and Lavoy combined. Doesn’t make sense for them to trade Odom just for the sake of trading him.

There is no Bynum deal if LA doesn’t want to trade him. There’s also been a lot of talk about Howard not wanting to follow Shaq to the Lakers.

Also there’s a link underneath everyone’s post that says “Reply.” Please start using it.

I would assume there’s be picks involved in that too, but if Odom isn’t going to play a significant role in your playoff rotation (which it doesn’t look like at this point), why wouldn’t you trade him. Lavoy is a restricted FA they could keep relatively cheap. It’s almost a lock Odom’s option is declined because the Mavs will look to pursue Howard or Williams in free agency so if he’s not really going to play for you, and you’re not keeping him, turn him into a promising young role player and picks.

The Odom thing is an idea. The Sixers should do their due diligence on that, but the Humphries thing is much more likely if Howard goes elsewhere.
