Around SBN: NFL Players Ready To Welcome Gay Teammate

Andre Iguodala a Finalist for Team USA, Olympics 2012

According to Andre Iguodala via John Finger of CSN Philly, the face of the Sixers franchise is a finalist for Team USA, who will compete in London for Olympics 2012.

Iguodala said he was contacted by USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo this week about being one of the 18 players in consideration for the Olympic team.

The roster will consist of 12 players and six alternates. Iguodala was on the team of 12 who went 9-0 in the basketball World Championships along with Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, Tyson Chandler, Russell Westbrook, Lamar Odom, Chauncey Billups, Danny Granger, Stephen Curry, Kevin Love, Rudy Gay and Eric Gordon. I imagine those 11 players are also being considered for the Olympics, along with a few others.

I didn't think Iguodala would make the World Championships roster, and I don't think he'll make the Olympics roster, but he's already proven me wrong once. He was at his absolute best in his role on the World Championships team.

Is Coach K coaching them again? If he is Dre might have a better chance then you are giving him, he absolutely loved Dre’s game & Dre being a defensive stopper probably helps him since they have a lot of offense already

In my opinion ‘Dre was second only to’ KD as the USA team MVP in the world champnships in Turkey. He was the defensive anchor any team should have to win tournaments at that level. I think that Couch K (also given his bb background) fully appreciated ’Dre all around bb skills and this was shown by the fact that K kept ’Dre in court in every crucial moment of the tournement. Having said that, unless slowed by injuries, should ’Dre continue to play the way he started the season he will surely make the team.

He doesn’t score 20 points per game, so I guess you can cross of Iguodala’s name from the list.

If you want The Truth...

I’d take Dre over Paul Pierce based on Dre’s defense. What does PP give you that the other SF’s on that list don’t?

I don’t think a lot of those guys are going to go. Kobe, for one, definitely wont go because his body is already breaking down.
