Why doesn't Jrue Holiday seem to ever pass on the pick and roll / pop
I'm not posting this because of his turnover at the end of tonights game vs. the nuggets, I've noticed this over the course of a couple games this year. Tonight early in the game there were 2 opportunities I noticed where Jrue had an open man after spitting the defense on the pick and instead of looking for the pass to either Brand or Nikola he runs straight into a brick wall while Brand was streaking to the basket and I've seen Jrue do the same thing all year NOT passing to Spencer Halls After the penetration creates space for the kick.
Ive never been one that was ready to crown this guy the next great young point gaurd Ive always had a "lets wait and see " opinion about this guy and really havent been paying too close attention to him other than that i hear alot of praise thrown his way early in his career but the more i see him the more i dont like him. I dont like his instincts or his discission making, I've seen him bring the ball up the court too many times and take long jumpers without working the ball around to get a good shot, he did this 3 times against the Knicks the 1st time he hit a crazy long distance 3 pointer and the next two times he missed a long two and another 3. I think he thinks he's "that dude" when he's NOT, I think he's been reading his own press.
On the other hand Even Turner looked great tonight with the ball in his hands and was making GOOD choices with the ball in his hands. He was the only guy late in the game that WASN'T taking jumpshots when they were down... He was penetrating and getting to the foul line he's the guy that kept them in the game... I say start Evan at point I'm tired of the Jrue Holiday Hype machine. And again I'm not writing this because of his turner over late in the game, I've been feeling like this foe awhile.nbsp;

I have noticed this too. It was especially egregious last year when Brand was dominating a lot of games, and Jrue still wouldn’t pass to him on the pick-and-roll. That it’s still going on is a serious problem.
Not reading a word past “Spencer Halls”.

I didn’t read the post at all, just scrolled down and this was the first comment I saw and laughed at. On further note, now I’m definitely not reading the post.

I don’t know what’s worse, that he called a turnover a “tuner over” or that he ended the post on a semi-colon…
Love the Sixers, love the Cavs. Don't sympathize, we'll win a championship someday. Someday...

read as far as you want… The point is that the guy is OPEN and he can HIT THAT shot. Guess what, if Halls was playing tonight they’d have gotten that win if for no other reason than having a deeper rotation at the Center position not to mention the way Halls has been playing this year.
You’re still calling him Halls.
That’s Hawesome.

with respect to the read, the kid is 21. also, i would presume that coach collins is in his ear with what goes through my head at times and that is “young man, you have to be more aggressive”. when you combine the two, you might miss an open man or two. and its not like he’s missing an open man to take a contested jump shot, his target is to get to the rim and get the points and/or contact so if he is missing passes, its not completely for bad cawse (or calls?, ok that was bad).

we didn’t lose because of holiday, but maybe if he wasn’t so concerned about the open man, that last drive to the hoop last night goes differently. just something to ponder.

We didn’t lose because of him, but we sure would have had a better chance to win if he takes that shot. He hits it all the time. Doesn’t make sense that he’d pass it up.
not saying that we lost because of him. i’m saying exactly what you are saying, that the games ends differently. even if we still lose, its on a better note than a turnover.

looked more like a case of the hot potato in a pressure situation of a guy that didn’t want to take the shot combined with a confused offense after not taking a time out to draw something up. The problem is that he isn’t concerned with the open man… Court vision / awareness is obviously not a strength of his, so for him to have passed the ball out of the shot in the first place was uncharacteristic of what I’ve seen of him. For a guy who throws up bad shots during the game regularly why not continue form late in the game… Guy didn’t want the ball.
the decision to not take a time out and make the nuggets play instinctive, unorganized defense was brilliant by collins. he’s done that several times in the past. i dont knock holiday as hard as everyone else for the turnover, once again i stress, the kid hasn’t been able to hit the E&J for a year now. you can’t coach court vision and pressure instincts. however, everything that you CAN coach, Jrue does extremely well. once this kid gets some hair on his chest, we have no worries. and even until then, his good tips the scales against his bad.

Yeah dude, that's it exactly...
…you’ve only watched him for a few games. And given that you’ve yet to realize that Spencer Hawes’ last name is spelled h-a-w-e-s it seems like maybe you’ve only been watching the sixers for a few games. Which is great, it means more people are watching the sixers, but everyone who’s been following the team for the past couple of years has seen Holiday play much much better – making better decisions, attacking the rim, and hitting big shots in big games. So, while most people here would agree that he’s played poorly so far, most of the ‘hype’ you speak of isn’t based on his start to this season.
yeah I realized it after Derek Bodner mentioned that I spelled his name incorrectly
Big Fking deal I spelled the guys name differently than it is actually spelled… My post wasnt about the correct spelling of his Fking name so I choose to ignore the ever present Internet spelling police… If you’ve got a point to make then make it and stop with the childish Internet BulliSht that I acknowledging years ago.
Furthermore I haven’t JUST started watching the sixers… I always watch the sixers and occasionally go to games… I just started paying close attention to Jrue Holyday :) because he is in his third year now and his second year as a starter. Generally I don’t pay really close attention to young players untill they are 2 or 3 years in Unless they are either high draft picks like Turner or really show you something early like Young did in his first 2 years.
I could care less about any of the other Philadelphia sports teams… I’m really only a fan of basketball and boxing so I’m not some newcomer to the sixers, I follow them all the time.
I haven’t stopped acknowledging childish internet BulliSht yet. Maybe in a few years I’ll mature.

I'm not a spelling expert but...
I’m pretty sure stoped is really spelled stopped
you can correct him all you want, but he chooses to ignore the ever present Internet spelling police.
Those guys just run rampant these days.

A few things
Spelling a few words wrong is one thing. This is a message board, those things happen. However, if you want people to take your analytic post seriously, it would help to spell a key player’s name correctly. People aren’t calling you out because you spelled a word wrong. You consistently spelled Spencer Hawes’ name incorrectly and then get pissy because people mentioned it. If you were the big 76ers fan that you claim to be, I would think you would be able to spell the name of their starting center correctly.
That being said, your analysis is wrong. Holiday is expected to take shots, create looks, and be the quarterback of the offense. He occasionally misses the open player on the pick and roll because he is taking his own open shot, which I’m sure is due to Collins’ urging that he be more aggressive on offense.
Not to mention, the idea of starting Evan Turner at the point is just ridiculous. He’s always been a guard/forward, inserting him into a role where he has no experience is just setting him back developmentally. Not to mention, it sets Jrue back from the progress he’s made over the past few seasons.
Finally, why do you wait 2-3 years to “pay attention” to a young player? If you’re such a 76ers fan, I would think you’d pay attention to all of their young players, especially one who is the future of our team.
Just talkin about practice

yea i didnt respond to when he said this but i thought that was completely baffling. in which case, he missed lou williams, thad young and most of our key guys until just about the eddie jordan era.

Apparently, Thad Young “showed him something” in his first 2 years, so he was paying attention. But Jrue earning the starting role was not enough to capture his eye.

bicker bicker bicker
who cares about the spelling really? it’s an observation, it’s about X’s and O’s, not about names. do you guys think other teams watch video and knows the players’ tendencies? when i watched the sixers play the wizards a couple weeks ago, they never defended the pick and roll, because jrue never passed it to the guy…
when it comes to spelling easy words like “stopped”, there is usually a positive correlation between spelling ability and knowledge of X’s and O’s.
