Starting two guard

Not really new to Liberty Ballers, I read it all the time, but never really felt the need to put in my two cents. However, after two games against the wizards and a pretty fantastic start to the season, I'm probably more excited about the sixers than I've been since I was 12. Obviously, there's been alot of talk about the sixers needing a superstar to make it over the top, etc etc, and I can't particularly argue against that, but I think there are also some smaller upgrades that could be pretty easily made, starting with Jodie Meeks.

Anyway, games against Washington always remind me of two things: one is how happy I am not to be rooting on the wizards, and the second is how much I wish we'd do some minor swap to get Nick Young on our squad. He's certainly not a star, and his defense needs work (meet doug collins) but I think its pretty much un-arguable that swapping him for Jodie in our starting lineup would drastically improve our offense, and I'm actually fairly certain that a year next to Iguodala and Collins screaming at him every game for all his missed rotations would turn him into a pretty solid defender. I find it hard to believe he'd be worse than Jodie, who's just too small to guard NBA two guards. The fact that he signed for 3.7 million this offseason is laughable, and offensively he'd immediately become one of our better players. Non of this factors in him getting out of Washington either, which I think might actually have just been added to Wikipedia as the tenth circle of hell. Not having to hang out with Andray Blatche and Javale McGee on the weekends would probably do wonders for his psyche, and young shooting guards who could average close to 20 ppg don't grow on trees. Maybe dangling that trade exception and Jodie would do the trick. Otherwise, we could just sign him to a four year 20 million dollar contract next season and introduce him to Michael Curry. He's cheap, and he improves our half court offense. Win-win in my book.

Thoughts? Free Nick Young?

As bad as Jodie Meeks has been, Nick Young has been worse. young had a pretty good game last night but he’s shooting under 40% on the season.

Career eFG%
Meeks .524
Young .489

Career TS%
Meeks .569
Young .528

As scorers Meeks is better. The difference is that Young takes a lot more shots. The Sixers definitely do not need a volume shooter. It would take away from the offensive efficiency that has them as a top 5 offense in the league.

I forgot to add that Doug is not a miracle worker. He has not made Meeks, Lou, or Hawes into better defenders. Why would you think that he could suddenly make any random poor defender into a good one?

I have to disagree I think Doug gets them to defend better then other coaches would. I’m not saying there great or even good but I do think they are better under Doug

Maybe better than under Eddie Jordan but that isn’t saying much.

Doug has better defensive schemes and individual game planning, but he hasnt made them better man-on-man defenders.

I don’t see the point of bringing in another guard. If anything I’d like another semi-decent PF/C for the right price.

Agreed. We could use both a backup pg and pf/c but if i had to choose id go for the big man. If Hawes’ back keeps giving out we really dont have any depth beyond.

Yeah if it’s going to be a guard I’d like it to be a legitimate backup pg. A scoring guard like Nick Young’s skill set would be pretty redundant being we already have the boss who gives the instant offense at that spot.

We have a Nick Young already. His name is Lou Williams.

I think it’s been said earlier that Lou’s numbers per 48 minutes are almost identical to that of Monta Ellis…

Love the Sixers, love the Cavs. Don't sympathize, we'll win a championship someday. Someday...

i’d have to agree. however, nick shouldn’t start. i always loved nick’s mentality when it comes to scoring the basketball and creating shots. not the most efficient guy obviously but i love the attack state of mind. if we could start lou at 2 with the 5 we have now, and bring nick off with the night shift, we’d be probably even more scary than we are now.

or so it goes ...

Although Young is more talented than Meeks I think Meeks fits into our team better. Meeks is a spotup shooter whereas Young likes to go one on one and dominate the ball. I think adding Young takes too many touches away from Iguodala, Holiday, Turner, and Thad.
