Some options for the wing position
With the 76ers being 7-3 and leading the Atlantic Division by 1.5 games, things are looking up for the better. I would like to take this time to bring up some interesting choices when it comes time to make that season warping trade.
Now be aware that these trades were not tested on the ESPN trade machine, but it would be a good idea to experiment with different possibilities.
1. Trade Iggy to the Golden state Warriors for Klay Thompson and some picks.
This trade works because of the Warriors glaring need for an older more successful veteran to help stabilize their locker room. The Warriors have been involved with AI9 trade rumors before and like before, the trades will progress to the point at which they will break down. Klay Thompson would be a great fit for a team lacking a true scorer. Klay can simply fill it up from beyond the arc, even though his defense has been criticized at times. Giving up Andre is a small price to pay considering how good our defense is getting.
2. Trade Iggy to the Houston Rockets for Kevin Martin
This trade might actually work to to the tension that has developed in the recent weeks from the almost Chris Paul trade to the lakers. Martin felt like this team dangled him in a failed attempt to rebuild with big man Pau Gasol. This trade could happen straight up in another attempt to rebuild for the Rockets. Kevin Martin is a dream fit for the 76ers who are slowly becoming a defensive minded team, would allow Martin to shoot until he gets tired, as long as he attempts to play defense sometimes.
3. Trade Andre Iguodala and jodie meeks for Derrick Williams and Wayne Elligton
Over the past few days, I've read about a possible dealing of Iggy to the T'wolves. The question is wheather we have another piece that they are willing to give Dwill for. There is no question that derrick Williams would fit in with or current roster. Having Jrue Holiday, Evan Turner, Derrick Williams, Elton Brand, and Spencer Hawes as the starting five would be great.
In the end though, all we can do is sit back and wait for any movement to happen. Once again, these trades weren't run through the ESPN trade machine, so I don't know for sure if they'll work. A man can dream can't he?
I just wanted to see what you guys think.

I want no piece of Klay Thompson. Hated him coming out of the draft and he’s done nothing so far in his limited time to change my opinion of him. He seems like a slightly better version of Meeks. Not someone I want as a centerpiece of an Iguodala trade at all.
The reason to trade Iguodala is to continue forward in a rebuilding process. Kevin Martin is older than Iguodala and it’s arguable as to whether he’s an upgrade at all (I say no). I don’t see a point to the trade for either team.
The third trade is interesting but I don’t see it happening. A 7-3 team trading a veteran to a 3-7 team for a rookie who was just picked 2nd overall makes very little sense logically. If the Sixers decided to go all-in with a rebuilding plan then I’d say go for it. I don’t see it as a possibility for a team that could contend for a division title though.
if im not mistaken i think he is sarcastically posting as to the type of trades the sixers generally make. at least i hope so. none of these guys seal a deal for me. if iggy is in a warriors uni, ellis better be sporting the red white and blue. other than that or a deal including rudy gay, i dont recommend iguodala going any place.
or so it goes ...

are you saying a trade where iggy goes to warriors and we get a package not including ellis would be swell?

I’m fairly sure he’s saying he does not want Monta for any package involving Iguodala.
And it would be swell (or sweller) if Curry were part of a package instead of Ellis.
i sort of agree but to me the talent differential between curry and iguodala is too great. i would have to see the complete package of the deal, i think iguodala is just too valuable to the sixers. i do realize that curry’s style of play would complement our team better than ellis’, but as i said ellis is closer to andre’s skill level and he can really fill it up and i dont think you can ignore that.

I disagree vehemently. I think Curry is not only a better fit than Ellis but is also a better all-around player than him.
that would be the difference, i dont think curry’s defense is anything to write home about either, and scoring-wise, he’s a better spot up shooter than ellis but monte can create his own shot and slash quicker. neither is worthy of an iggy deal, but i would be less upset if we got ellis in return

Oh man...
Even the comments meant to be supportive are insulting. I’d cry myself back to sleep if I woke up and Iggy was gone and Ellis or Gay were sixers.
agree
definitely JP Iggy is a much better player than either of them

i wasnt suggesting these trades, simply commenting on the proposed trades. VASTLY improving them in my opinion. klay thompson or rudy gay? there is no need for the jury to go out on that one.
or so it goes ...

Why ?
I'm all-in for the 2012 season !
Dwight Howard is coming to Philly. Maybe. Probably not. But we can at least hope, that's all we have.

From their perspective, why would they trade their best player when the team is 7-3?
by Michael Levin on Jan 13, 2012 3:15 PM PST up reply actions
Just call him the alarm clock, cuz he always goes off on defense.
BAM!
"If Iguodala were a legitimate "true" 17 PPG scorer, we’d be a better team. When at least 8 of those points come off the fast break, his true offensive production is a reality: 8-11 PPG." - LeQuan Glover

Maybe
I really don’t know what to expect, but a trade would be welcomed i would be the first to say that.

It would be smarter if the Sixers didn't trade
unless they got Dwight Howard or got rid of Tony Fatigue.
I think everyone should be bilateral coordinated.
these are awful trades
All of the trades here make the Sixers a worse team in the short and long run. Some people just want to trade Iggy just to do something. It has nothing to do with the way he’s played this year or logic or anything like that, its just the zombie sixers fan reaction to everything.
Let’s keep this team together. I’m sort of falling in love with this team. Their chemistry is phenomenal and their hustle and swagger that they bring to the table really is entertaining to watch.
Love the Sixers, love the Cavs. Don't sympathize, we'll win a championship someday. Someday...

i am too. but that is the curse along with the gift. the team is performing superbly but there are still looming holes that will prevent us from taking the next step to being a title contender. mainly, a more defensive and consistent meeks (or replacement 2gaurd?), and a more defensively inclined hawes (or replacement 5?)
or so it goes ...

Best way to improve the team
Replace Jodie Meeks with a better SG. That’s it. You replace/upgrade Jodie Meeks without sacrificing a starter, BOSS, or THAD, and this is a potential elite team. Meeks right now is by far the most ineffectual member of the starting lineup. Not Iggy. Why you guys always want to trade him, I will never get. He’s not old, he has JUST entered his prime, and he’s NOT that expensive. It seems to a default position people have adopted and it has nothing to do with his play.
I’m reading between the lines here…… I think you want Turner traded for a quality SG

pretty much
essentially yea, turner (and vucevic, if it comes to that to get a better big) are expendable players on this team. nice players, but expendable. Does anyone think if the Sixers lost Evan Turner, they would win fewer games? Not really. Turner is mostly brought in as a utility guy. If the Wizards will take Turner to pair with John Wall and we get McGee? Sure. If we can trade Turner or Vucevic and get a solid SG who is hopefully at least 6’4" or a scoring SF (moving Iggy to SG) this would be a dangerous team. Holiday Iguodala Granger Brand (hawes plays more minutes) McGee? BOSS and THAD on the bench? Shorter rotation, sure, but you get a big upgrade at a big position where the Sixers don’t have enough going for them right now. Meeks is a huge weakness. If this team can be a top 5 in the east team as currently constructed, then eliminating weaknesses (like Meeks), redundancies (like Turner), and bad investments (like Brand and Nocioni) while adding constructive parts ought to show the max potential. That team I proposed (with likely Brand amnesty’d at the end of the season, leaving the Sixers enough money to go after Kevin Love instead of Hawes) is a great team that can compete with the Heat.
Not that I disagree that upgrade for Jodie or Hawes would be welcome, but I don’t think you improve this team that much with a quick fix, nor do I see a drastic upgrade out there. McGee is athletic for sure, but I’ve watched too many wizards games this season to believe that he is an answer at center (especially now that Hawes has turned HAWESOME – credit to Malik Rose, who is the sixer’s best off season acquisition). Why give up a young player (Turner) who has shown the willingness, drive, and ability to improve for one that hasn’t. We don’t get Granger for Turner or Vucevic. I think if and when a quote ‘true superstar’ become available this team should go for it – other than that their slow and steady acquisition and development of talent is building a team that looks better and better.
I like Turner too, but I think he’s redundant on this team. He’s a nice player, but he’s not a “necessity”. I would prefer to play McGee WITH Hawes. Hawes has the outside game to complement McGee. Why don’t you think Turner and Vucevic could land Granger?
by Dan Pearson on Jan 17, 2012 12:59 PM PST up reply actions
Because Granger is seen as a better player than he actually is because he has scoring ability. Turner is seen as a likely bust (as a #2 pick who is an "energy player off the bench) and Vucevic was a mid-first who has yet to prove himself. It’s not a package that I could see Indiana accepting, though I think Turner would be a pretty nice fit next to Paul George.
What he said.
I honestly don’t watch the Pacers enough to have too strong of an opinion about Granger. I just know he’s 28, having a shitty season statistically, and won’t bring us very much closer to a championship (if at all closer). Turner is young and improving and works great off the bench. Since we’re playing so well, I don’t see the point of giving up an asset in exchange for another good but not great player.
its the skillset
The Sixers can afford to lose Turner, and they could use a scorer like granger. Maybe there is a better option out there (Eric Gordon, perhaps), but they need a guy who can make open shots on the team and Meeks isn’t doing it and Turner does it but not at a high enough level.
Yeah, we don’t have that 20 ppg scorer in our lineup and he’d be a clear upgrade over meeks – but from what I’ve seen as a team we’re scoring the ball pretty well already. I’m not sure adding another scorer helps us out that much when there already aren’t quite enough shots to go around. Turner captains our second side really well, and I wouldn’t want to lose that. I think more important for us going forward will be to find a dominant post presence.
i’m with you man. i love jodie, but the guy just isnt physical on d and is by far too inconsistent to be a featured 3 point threat. its electrifying when he is hot, but if he isn’t hot, he is REALLY cold and is a mismatch on defense 70% of the time
or so it goes ...
by J.Michael Woodson on Jan 16, 2012 6:21 PM PST up reply actions
exactly. Jodie is a great off the bench 3 point threat. He’s the type of player it’d be nice to throw in a game and if he’s going off, you leave him. He’s not a guy who should be starting.
by Dan Pearson on Jan 17, 2012 12:56 PM PST up reply actions
I think it’s time to start Evan. Jodie shoot start playing 10-15 mpg from now on
Formerly known as The Pied Piper
the reason jodie starts isnt because he’s better. just like lou, evan is more effective against 2nd units. jodie would probably just be as effective off the bench but no real rise. to maximize everyones productivity it should stay the same until/if we have a better option to start at 2 or back up evan.
or so it goes ...
by J.Michael Woodson on Jan 17, 2012 8:22 AM PST up reply actions
No the reason Jodie starts is because Turner complements Lou and Meeks complements Iguodala and Jrue. Meeks and Lou go horribly together because neither of them can defend well. If you put in Turner, who has size, along with Lou, you can capably defend at least one of the opposing team’s guards.
Also, Jodie is a streak-shooter, where as Turner is more consistent. I do believe that Turner should start at some point, but does it really matter? He’s averaging 26 minutes a game. I like him as part of the field goal unit.
Love the Sixers, love the Cavs. Don't sympathize, we'll win a championship someday. Someday...
to be honest anyone who can knock down an open shot can be inserted into the sixers starting 2 slot. turner does compliment lou and meeks-jrue but obviously the level of play (for the most part) drops when teams go to the bench allowing crafty players like lou to have their way
or so it goes ...
