Big Game Speights!

67245104_medium

Marreese Speights first touched the hardwood as a Memphis Grizzly on January 6th in Utah. In that game he played only 6 minutes, missing two shots and registering 2 fouls, while gaining a block and assist to his credit. Two nights later however, he seemed to have found his stroke, so to speak. In just under 30 minutes of play, the former 76er let loose for 17 points, 7 boards, and 2 steals in the Lakers house. Speights also chipped in 2 dimes and used every single one of the 5 fouls awarded to you before ejection.

Speights should see a lot of minutes due to circumstance in Memphis as the team is short big men Darrell Arthur and Zach Randolph for majority of the season. If this is any indication of how he can play on a semi-regular basis, i'm happy for the big man. He surely wasn't balling like this while he was sporting a Sixers uniform, and he has opened up minutes for my new man-crush Nikola Vucevic. I'd call it a win-win.

Tonight, Marreese will likely see a lot of fellow former Sixer, Nazr Mohammed, when they meet up with the Oklahoma City Thunder; an interesting matchup to keep an eye on.

It should be noted that he needed 18 shots to score those 17 points.

the iverson-method of scoring. not efficient, but decently effective

or so it goes ...

Iverson averaged 1.22 points per shot in his NBA career. So even factoring in his decline years he would have scored an average of 22 points with those 18 shots.

iverson would. yes.

Doug gave up on him. I’m sure he wants to win as many games as possible, and for whatever reason didn’t think Speights was going to help the team. Maybe it’s a maturity thing and Speights will never get it. You can’t teach 6’11" and he can’t help but score points and rebound, so he’ll always have an NBA job. He just might never be the Center/PF that gets his team a Championship. If he does, Doug will have some ’splainin. to do!

Have you seen his defensive ineptitude?

Some guy at PSU Hershey Med Center just discovered a virus that eats cancer. Where were the CNN trucks for that? THON will probably break $10 mil this year. Put that on "Outside the Lines".

he can’t help but score points and rebound

He didn’t do a very good job of either in his last game.

One slight change…and it becomes Jim Lynam facing the angry hordes over the Shawn Bradley pick.

Speights now has scored 29 points on 34 shots as a Grizzlie.

by far surpassing his performance as a sixer hahaa. also eclipsing any hopes that i ever had for him. i’m happy for speights. i’m sure he is prouder to roam the hardwood aimlessly as a grizzly than to enjoy a front row seat at the wells fargo.

or so it goes ...

29 points on 34 shots is TERRIBLE. You seem to think it is good.

by Michael Levin on Jan 13, 2012 9:02 AM PST up reply actions

It is.

Is there a way I can try out for a basketball team? I can score 29 points on 25 shots.

I think everyone should be bilateral coordinated.

straight off of the couch and into the nba wolves, i’d pay top dollar to see that performance from a fan

or so it goes ...

“good” is a variable depending on who the player is. if it is terrible to you, than you had much higher expectations for speights than i did.

or so it goes ...

No, it’s not good for anyone. It’s horrific.

are you friends with lequan or something?

"If Iguodala were a legitimate "true" 17 PPG scorer, we’d be a better team. When at least 8 of those points come off the fast break, his true offensive production is a reality: 8-11 PPG." - LeQuan Glover

He’s newish, he doesn’t understand the Lequanomy yet.
Was that bad? Lequanomy? Like economy? Okay I’m tired. I need a drink.

Love the Sixers, love the Cavs. Don't sympathize, we'll win a championship someday. Someday...

To elaborate on my “no”, Speights has scored 1.03 points per shot this season. That would put him at 107th out of 116 players who qualify for a scoring title if he had enough minutes.

to elaborate on my “speezys ballin, son” … he startin for the memphis grizzles, grabbin boards and gettin buckets, son.
