"If the talent is equal and your evaluations are equal, then you look at need," said Witte after Saturday's first pre-draft workout. "When there's separation, you cannot make a mistake like maybe Portland did (in 1984 at No. 2) with (injury-plagued center Sam) Bowie over (all-time great Michael) Jordan. Obviously, we're not picking that (high).
"I think this year's draft, there's not as much separation (between the prospects)."
