“I was a little surprised,” said Allen in a telephone conversation. “There are no guarantees in the NBA Draft, especially the second round. I’m just happy to be selected.”

Sixers GM Ed Stefanski said the Sixers like the 6-foot-9, 225-pound power forward’s ability to defend inside and rebound.

“We’re happy to get him,” Stefanski said. “He’s got NBA size and an NBA body, no doubt about it. He’s a guy the coach (Doug Collins) wanted. He has an opportunity here.”
