2011 NBA Draft: Best Players Available After Round 1

The first round is in the books. The Sixers selected Nikola Vucevic with the sixteenth pick. Not many Sixers fans are too happy with the pick. What's done is done though. On to the second round. The Sixers own the 50th pick, which they will use to almost definitely select a player the fans enjoy more than Vucevic. Below are the top players available:

  1. Tyler Honeycutt
  2. Justin Harper
  3. Davis Bertans
  4. Malcom Lee
  5. Josh Selby
  6. Kyle Singler
  7. Jon Leuer
  8. Darius Morris
  9. Chandler Parsons
  10. Charles Jenkins
  11. Jeremy Tyler
  12. Travis Leslie
  13. Shelvin Mack
  14. Trey Thompkins
  15. Bojan Bogdanovic
  16. E'Twaun Moore
  17. Greg Smith
  18. Giorgi Shermadini
  19. Jordan Williams
  20. Isaiah Thomas
  21. Scotty Hopson
  22. Keith Benson
  23. Malcolm Thomas
  24. Jereme Richmond
  25. Rick Jackson
  26. LaVoy Allen
The names in BOLD are guys that the Sixers have worked out prior to the draft, according to this list. The guys I'm interested in are as follows:

Tyler Honeycutt
Malcom Lee
Josh Selby
Jeremy Tyler
Greg Smith
Keith Benson

I really like his game. I think he will be better than Vucevic

I’ll say it now while he’s still on the board. I really don’t like Benson. I think he’s too skinny to ever adequately defend the 5 and he doesn’t look like he has the frame to put on the weight.

Honestly all I hear from you guys is a lot of complaining

and no real “what-they-could’ve-dones”. The only potential pick at 16 that would’ve gotten most of us excited was Biyombo. Vucevic is just one of the many mediocre choices they could’ve made.

by phillyhoosfan on Jun 23, 2011 7:35 PM PDT reply actions

No, I would have taken Singleton or Faried, to name two players.

by JoshuaR on Jun 23, 2011 7:36 PM PDT up reply actions

I honestly don't think Faried carves out enough minutes here

And I really think they need more offense in the frontcourt. Plus Faried has said he doesn’t want to play in the Tri-State area.

I’d be fine with Singleton, but I’m not losing my mind we didn’t get him. He’s not significantly better than Vucevic.

by phillyhoosfan on Jun 23, 2011 7:43 PM PDT up reply actions

I disagree. I’ll leave it at that.

Yes. Then the Sixers traded his draft rights to Portland for a pick that they used on Derrick Byars.

I just dropped by to make sure I wasn’t the only one that was completely stunned

Given this team’s history, why would you be stunned? This was always the most likely outcome.

Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

actually I jokingly told my friend we were going to draft the 7ft white guy from USC … I’m annoyed that I was right.

Stunned probably is an inappropriate word. I’m stunned that I was excited for and expected something different.

Pick!

You can focus on team need in the draft; if someone at another position is far superior than the guy at a position you need, then you got to take the superior player. Singleton is an athlete who will be able to soften the loss of Iggy. The only way this pick makes since is if you keep Iggy. If we trade Iggy, we have no lock down athletic defender. I am not saying this guy would step in and be Iggy, but he has a lot of tools that you can not teach. He can gaurd twos or threes and lock them down. This is a big need in a division loaded with talent at those positions. I like Turner, but he is too small to gaurd legit 3’s like Melo or Pierce.
