Column: Lockout could hinder Sixers' progress

http://ow.ly/4FSH0

Here is a taste of my Sunday column:

While the Sixers' lack of a No. 1 scorer is glaring, the first priority should be acquiring a big, physical center.

Though he's a pretty good offensive big man, 22-year-old Spencer Hawes is not an interior defensive force. Hawes will become an unrestricted free agent if the Sixers don't tender him a $4.05 million qualifying offer.

If the Sixers qualify him, they'd have seven days to match another team's offer (once the lockout is over) - and they also must realize Hawes could end up accepting the $4.05 million and returning for another season.
