Trade Idea...

Evan Turner has a lot of potential, but i don't think that he fits very well in Sixers's system.

He needs the ball to be effective and he hasn't good long strike to suit with Holiday and Iquodala...

In my opinion Sixers need a SG who can shoot and defend very well, and who can operate with or with out  the ball...

What about Sixers trade Turner,  Mareese Speights and 2011 second round draft pick to Blazers, for Wesley Matthews, Luke Babbitt, rights of Joel Freeland and Blazers's 2011 first round pick?

Matthews has a break out year and his characteristics suits perfectly to Doug Collins philoshophy..

Very easily could take the SG starter position in Sixers's roster, with Jodie Meeks coming of the bench..

Babbitt was struggled in MacMillan's system, but he can shoot extremelly well, and has a good of potential..

Kapono and Songaila have an expiring contracts, which means that there's a free room at F positions for Babbitt...

Freeland has improved his game playing in the best European league(ACB), and could take a spot on Sixers roster and a good role on front line rotation..

As i said before, Songaila's contract is expriring, but Tonie Battie also...

Finally Sixers could get another one 2011 first round pick(Sixers has also a 2011 mid first round pick), which means that  could be able to make two more good investments for their future..

At the other side, Turner could be a potential PGOTF for the Blazers and the successor of Andre Miller at PG position..

I believe that he could  make a great career, playing at PG position..(like in Ohio State did)..

Speights could help Blazers's weak front line and could be a successor of Marcus Camby, in the Blazers future chemistry..

And with 2011 second round pick from Sixers, Blazers could selected a SG to cover Matthews's spot, on their roster..

Hypothetical 2011-12 roster:

PG: Holiday-Williams-Nolan Smith(from Blazers 2011 first round pick)

SG: Matthews-Meeks

G-F: Iguodala

SF: Nocioni-Babbitt

F: Young-Brackins

PF: Brand-Freeland

F-C: Bismack Biyambo(Sixers's 2011 first round pick)

C: Hawes-2011 free agent

What's your opinion?

Too early to give up on Turner. He could still be a future franchise player…hopefully.

Evan Turner = Future NBA MVP

Brutal: There are those(me) who will gladly discuss the future. Here’s the problem: Yes Matthews is a better two guard and I’d love to have him. But between the SG/C positions.

C is problem A, SG is problem B. That, and your trading the 20 yr old Evan Turner. Allen Iverson was our two guard for years and we wouldn’t mistake A.I for an off-the-ball player. Collins is trying to fit a round peg in a square hole.

Let’s get rid of the square hole: Andre Iguodala. Even had we won and finished 42-40, is that REALLY winning? Let’s make this decision once and for all, or is .500 everyone’s greatest vision for this Sixers squad!

Stackhouse/Hughes weren’t good picks, LB quickly ditched those guys when it became apparent. It was apparent after the Pistons series where we are. So some 3 years later, we virtually have the same roster, different benchies.

Look at it this way: We’ve got a healthy Brand and we’re still mediocre. There’s not a single shred of evidence towards keeping Iguodala.

So some 3 years later, we virtually have the same roster, different benchies.

The starting lineup in that series was Dalembert, Thad, Iguodala, Green, Miller. Only three players from that team (Iguodala, Thad, Lou) are still on the roster. It isn’t even close to same roster with different bench players.

Yeah, replace Daly and Green with Hawes and Meeks. Totally BIG differences. Name a front office more inactive than the Sixers.

Turner as point guard of the future? I don’t think he can fulfill that promise on any team in the NBA that hopes to compete for a championship. And that trade is about as lackluster as a potato.

I’d rather see how Turner develops under Magee and grows. He’s a late bloomer with the smarts and drive to compete at a high level. We shouldn’t trade his ass yet. If he gets a consistent jumper and continues to evolve and find his confidence on the NBA level, he’ll exceed all those bums you want to get for him and find his way as a 2 or 3. But a point guard? No way, not in the NBA. Derrick Rose would run him into the ground.

Anyway, TURNER isn’t a PG, he’s a SG or Combo guard like JOE JOHNSON / BRANDON ROY / TYREKE EVANS etc…

by Amaru Raisho on Apr 17, 2011 5:19 PM PDT up reply actions

I have thought about all different trade iterations to solve the puzzle that is this 76ers roster/cap situation.

And I admit I have thought of trading young Mr Turner (if you want to make him a PG once he yours, go for it, whatevs). However, I gotta admit, it would take a bit more than what you suggest. He WAS the #2 pick this past draft!

Will Wes revert? Will he really fit? Is he at his ceiling?
Babbitt is looking too much like Adam Morrison to me…
This is the weakest draft in a while. I dont even want OUR 1st round pick (ok, just kidding there but..)

I agree that I would rather take my chance with ET and Coach Magee this summer and see what happens….

Your giving up on Turner way too early. I know he didn’t have a great year, the stats dont lie, BUT the guy has shown periodically over the season how much upside this guy has (can create his own shot and for others, plays good defense, good rebounder, etc.) and once this guy gets a little more nba experience and has an expanded role on this team he is going to produce. He has no trade value right now so I don’t see why it’s necessary to trade him for a bunch of mediocre players with less upside.

by jrb5094 on Apr 18, 2011 3:39 PM PDT reply actions

Time to trade Andre

Because he’s at a win-now point in his career and the team around him is REALLY young. If Sixers can’t sign an elite player via free agency, roll the dice in the draft.

by donniethelion on Apr 18, 2011 6:37 PM PDT reply actions

Th Sixers’ second round pick is the 50th overall so the Blazers wouldn’t bite on that because they simply can’t guarantee a decent shooting guard with the 50th overall pick. A better idea would be Turner and a 2011 1st round pick to Portland for Greg Oden and Luke Babbit.
