ET what to think of him so far

This is my first post on Sb and I was wondering what you guys think of turner so far obviously I dont think he molds well with the other sixer players right now and at times looks lost on the court but he does average a solid amount of time off the bench about 24 minutes a game but his averages are rather low for the amount of time he plays. I see other rooks like Paul George of the Pacers get less time a game then turner but have similar stats to ET (points a game and boards a game) i know George is bigger and doesnt play exact same position as ET but I am just using him as an example.  Anyway just wanna know what you guys think. Thanks!

Others on here disagree with me but I’m not sold on ET. Is it early? Absolutely. Could I be wrong? Absolutely. I get why the we picked him at #2 and if ET doesn’t pan out, I don’t think we can blame the Sixers. It was clearly a logical pick and ET did have a good college resume. That said, I haven’t seen much this year that shows me ET isn’t going to be just another guy. Last year with Jrue, he showed enough flashes where you knew he had a chance to be one of the better players at his position. I’m not saying it’s a slam dunk but it wouldn’t shock me if Jrue made an all-star game or two down the road. ET has played better as of late but I still don’t see the fundamentals, namely, a consistent jump shot and being able to play without the ball, to make me think otherwise. I feel like too many people are grasping for even the smallest positive things to pump him up. Put another way, I don’t think anyone can argue ET’s upside his higher than where Iggy is. I’m not a huge Iggy supporter but i recognize he is a very solid player and in the right context (contender, Team USA), he’s a good piece. That said, Iggy isn’t an all-star caliber player. If Iggy isn’t all-star caliber and ET’s max ceiling at this point is if and maybe Iggy’s current level, I see ET settling in as a league average guy most likely. Finally, I don’t put too much stock into the rookie stats because things like PT are dictated by the situation. For example, ET would probably “start” on bottom 5 team. He wouldn’t get off the bench on a top 5 team. I think the minutes he’s getting are appropriate for what he’s shown so far. I certainly don’t think he should be playing more minutes unless we nose dive and are out of the playoffs in which case he should get heavy PT.

I personally wanted the sixers to pick him at two I was with all the “experts” but its still early but looking back now it would have probably been better off the sixers drafting Favors or at least the headcase D Cuz even tho Brand is showing flashes of the past as of late but you got to play the cards your dealt with and i still think ET can be solid in this league. Potential star? I doubt it but I think he can be a good role player in this league. now I think it would help ET if the sixers got rid of iggy but I think the sixers need to hang onto iggy unless some team wants to overpay for him or if the sixers cant buy a game. I do agree with you dp in the fact that if the sixers start losing games and are out of the playoffs that the young players need to play more then the old heads on the team hopefully this doesnt happen and we can knock off a top team in the east and make a run. unlikely? absolutely. but it would be awesome.

If you would like a better perspective on how Turner compares to the other rookies thus far, you can go to basketballreference.com and use the player comparison. It might be easier just to go to google.com and type in, “basketball reference player comparison” if you’re not sure how to navigate. Anyway, follow the directions from there. It’s a good tool to use.

I agree. Not to be snarky but seriously, compare ET’s rookie year and Willie Green’s. The way he’s going right now, ET is basically Willie Green 2.0. Again, ET has a better basketball pedigree and you would think a higher ceiling but my eyes so far tell me ET may end up being Willie Green 2.0.

even if their early numbers are similar, ET and Bill couldn’t be more different.

More like Aaron Mckie 2.0

Which wouldn’t be at all bad if he wasn’t the 2nd pick in the draft. Like Aaron, he’s a big combo guard who can dish and play D. I guess my disappointment comes from his lack of aggressiveness to the basket. I thought we were getting a guard who could use his size and ball-handling to get to the paint and score. Up to this point, his greatest assets are his rebounding, pushing the break and his passing. I’m cautiously optimistic he’ll get better. My only concern now is him finishing at the rim, Could you Puh-leease try to dunk on somebody, Evan!
