We're a bit over the half way point of the season and I wanted to look back at my season preview to see if I was on to something.
Here is the preview to catch yourself up (it made Editor's Choice so it must have been decent): Preview.
Read it? Good. Let's look at what we got here after the jump.
November:
What I said: 7-11
What happen: 5-13
I wasn't too off on the month of November. The month included a 0-4 start and a 5 game losing streak. It also included two meetings with the Heat (before they became elite) and the tough overtime losses to the Wizards.
December:
What I said: 4-11
What happen: 8-7
Boy what was I smoking!? I saw the long road trip as a losing trip. 7 straight on the road in December. 8 straight games in a row stretching to January. I'm not the only person who was surprised about their road trip. And they played some pretty good opponents in the month: Lakers and Celtics twice. Nuggets, Bulls, Magic, and Hornets once. They had a bad loss against the Bulls though. But for the most part, the Sixers were very impressive.
January:
What I said: 9-5
What happen: 8-6
So again, I wasn't too off. This month was rather weird. Like that loss against the Magic when they pulled off the two 4-point plays. They did avenge their losses to the Wizards (two tough to swallow OT losses) and Bulls (the 45 point loss). And of course, the worse loss of the season against the Grizzlies. They only had 5 games on the road but went 1-4 in those.
Award Winners:
What I said:
MVP: Andre Iguodala
Rookie of Year: Evan Turner
Most Improved Player: Marreese Speights
Sixth Man: Lou Williams
Defensive Player: Jrue Holiday
What it looks like so far:
MVP Jrue Holiday
Rookie of Year Evan Turner
Most Improved Player: Elton Brand
Sixth Man Lou Williams
Defensive Player: Andre Iguodala
I know what you're looking at, Speights. I thought that he would start playing some defense with Collins on his back. He did have a nice string of solid games but it's just not enough. Elton looks like a whole new player this year. It's great to see. He's moving well and seems highly motivated. Other people would put in Jrue as most improved but I just don't see enough improvement. On defense, he's seemed worse than last year. But he's had to face a lot of good guards like Steve Nash, John Wall, Derrick Rose, and Deron Williams. That's also why I gave Iguodala the Defensive Player award. Andre has done better defending the opposing stars than Jrue. I did give Jrue the MVP award though. He's had a great season so far. Andre was a very close second. Turner was going to win ROY (Not like Brackins was able to put up a fight). Lou Williams leads the best bench of the league. Him and Thaddeuss Young have been a nice offensive boost off the bench.
Conclusion: Obviously, I don't know what will happen in February, March, and April. In my preview, at the end of January, the Sixers are 20-27. By the end of January in actuality, the Sixers went 21-26. So I was pretty close there too, huh? I have them ending 39-43 so we'll see how they do. Go Sixers!
