As of right now the Sixers sit just one game back of the New York Knicks and the 6th playoff slot. Getting to that spot won't really change the odds of a series win for the Sixers - a match-up against the Bulls isn't much better than a match-up with the Heat. However I do believe that getting to the 6th spot will help improve the Sixer's reputation as a legitimate team in the league. On the home front that will mean better attendance at the home games, equalling a better record at home and more revenue for Comcast, which hopefully moves them to spend more money on the team, which can equate signing some decent free agents, which in turn will mean more wins and a better playoff spot in the coming years, thus making Philly a desirable location for a big free agent to sign, finally turning them into a contender.
We clear? Was that run-on sentence long enough?
Anyway here is what the road to the 6th spot looks like over the next few games. Below are the Sixer's and the Knicks' schedule over the next five, with my predictions in parenthesis.
PHI - @ Cleveland (W), Dallas (L), Minnesota (W), Golden State (W), @ Indiana (W) -> (4-1 overall, 33-30 record)
NYK - @ Miami (L), @ Orlando (L), New Orleans (W), Cleveland (W), @ Atlanta (L) -> (2-3 overall, 31-30 record)
That gives the Sixers a two game lead, with another game against the Knicks later on in the year - which I think Philly wins. Anyway this is my prediction for the coming week.
