Greg Oden Signs Qualifying Offer with Blazers
First reaction: sadness, bleak outlook on life, instant depression.
Upon seconds of consideration, this is a good thing. With the Sixers shedding Nocioni's contract and having Brand as an expiring after this season, they could amnesty Brand and go balls out after Oden. Having a one-year deal isn't necessarily the worst thing in the world for the Blazers either, but if he has a healthy season, the price tag will be mighty high for one of the best centers in basketball.
I wish they'd went after him on the cheap now, but as an unrestricted free agent in 2012, he could be ours for the taking. All of this is of course assuming I take over for the Sixers as owner and GM because there's likely no way they gamble on him. Good thing that looks promising!

Tyson Chandler going to the Knicks? Are they gonna be out of the CP3 sweepstakes or they really gonna spit in Amar’e’s face and trade him for Cp3?

The Knicks
didn’t have trade assets or cap room to give Chris Paul a major deal and still field a team anyway, without getting rid of Amare or Melo
And if Amare stays healthy, I’d dump Melo for Chris Paul, not Amare

If they are dead set on trading Amare would you amnesty Brand and attempt to trade for him?

Um
Not sure – I mean yes the sixers would be better – but his contract is long (and risky) and would Collins like him?

I don’t think Collins would like him.
And, he is an injury risk.
Ed Snider is a crotchety old fuck.
That is all.
Particularly with the schedule this season.

I’d ride this year out and keep the amnesty in my back pocket. This assumes we don’t get a 1/2 descent offer on either Iggy or Brand. If so, great. If not, let Brand’s contract expire and basically we’re only dealing with Iggy. We can always amnesty Iggy down the road if we needed to. My recollection is you can amnesty any player at any time as long as their contract was signed prior to the new CBA.
I like where your head’s at Michael. On a side note, what do people think about going after Tim Duncan (free agent next year) if Oden, Howard, etc can’t be got. Even at an advanced age, the guy can still flat out play.
"If Howard can't be got"
I don’t think there is even a .00000000001% Howard comes to Philly. Why would he? Others teams will be able to offer the same amount of money and have better surrounding casts.

Name a team, minus the center and with enough cap room to sign Howard, that will have a better surrounding cast for the next 3 years than the Sixers.
Don’t really need cap room, just need to make a trade work and make dwight happy:
Chicago is better for him the next 3 years than the sixers
Lakers if they don’t have to give up too much win 2 of the next 3 titles in 3 years

Exactly...
First, b/c of the CBA, Sixers aren’t the only team that can create cap space (either naturally or with help of the amnesty). Cap room doesn’t mean anything unless you’re one of the few teams that has cap room. If other teams have cap room there is no comparative advantage and then things like market size, state income tax rules etc. come into play. Second, the Sixers won’t have much of a surrounding cast in the next 2-3 years. Holiday is the only real piece. Brand will either be traded or contract expires after this year. I’m assuming Thad will be overpaid by someone like Denver and gone – besides, he’s a 6th man at best. I’m not sold on ET just yet and no one is coming to Philly just to play with Holiday and Iggy, who would be in either his last or 2nd to last year. Third, in no particular order: Lakers, Clippers, Golden State, Boston, OKC, CHI. Finally, the biggest point is Howard will be traded before he hits the FA market. ORL has to trade him otherwise they get nothing. Same with Chris Paul.

Same thing
with expiring contracts – people still think they have tons of value cause they used to but in general they don’t much any more.
History shows that if a star wants to end up somewhere, he does, cause he won’t sign with anyone else.
Denver didn’t want to send Carmelo to New York but in the end they capitulated cause he forced them into it.

Chicago couldn’t sign him as a free because Rose is gonna get a massive pay raise. Both teams you named would have to trade for him, so yes it depends who they give up. Lakers are getting older every year and who knows what Chicago would have to give up to get him.
You seem stuck on a bunch of things that I can’t agree with and find beyond impossible so having the debate with you is pointless
Did you read the news that the NBA now allows for salaries to be renegotiated which would help teams create cap room immediately
Your Dwight Howard obsession is nice – but it’s as likely to happen as Jessica Biel winning an oscar

Regardless, the whole point of my comment was Tim Duncan. People just see Sixers and Dwight Howard in the same sentence and a switch gets flipped in their head that makes them go nuts, just because some jerkoff on espn hasn’t mentioned Philly as a destination. I’m simply stating that Holliday, Turner, Iggy, Thad, and Dwight Howard would be an extremely competitve team in the East for the next 3-5 years and probably more considering the youth of the team. If I were Howard, which of course I’m not, I would at least consider Philly because of this fact.
I'm not really sure
What Tim Duncan has to do with anything. Did he sign with the sixers?
Tim Duncan is a unique individual…i’m not sure what him NOT leaving San Antonio has to do with anything – he was winning titles
Your entire premise is based on the (faulty I believe) premise that somehow the sixers can add dwight howard NEXT season and become a title contender. It’s based on a (again faulty I believe) premise in the career arc of Thaddeus Young having him do things he’s NEVER been able to do in college or the pros, not because of his age, but because he either doesn’t care to learn how or just lacks the basketball IQ to do so. It probably is based on a a pemise (I don’t know about this one yet) that evan turner is going to live up to the #2 draft pick hype which history shows (as you are so fond of using in regards to thaddeus young suddenly figuring out the rest of basketball) is highly unlikely.
I’m not really sure where you think the sixers are going to find a PF of any mediocre quality to replace Brand (no they don’t have one) defense off the bench or the many other things they would need to contend for a title, but the basic premise that Philadelphia is an inviting desitation for dwight howard either on or off the court to me has no basis in reality

Reports are obtaining iguodala is one of the ways he would agree to an extension in Orlando. Therefore, we know he values Iguodala.

Who are the best free agents in 12, 13, and 14 respectively? Whats when we’ll eventually have cap space right?
xEgan on Twitter
No. If we Amnesty/trade Brand next offseason we’ll have alot of cap space. Even if we keep Brand we’ll still have some cap room as well. If we move Lou Williams we’ll have even more.
