Sixers 103, Suns 83: Post-Game Thread
Tally the first victory of the year in the ol' win column, gents. The Sixers used a 19-0 run to start the second half en route to a 20 point win in Phoenix against the Suns.
Nikola Vucevic made his debut, Andre Iguodala was all over the place, and Thaddeus Young was hitting just about everything around the basket.
Recap coming soon. In the meantime, celebrate the first win of the season.

You got it wrong KJ. Wasn't Natalie for wins?

I'd honestly like some diversity to the post game centerfold
Like a Paula Patton or Zoe Saldana. Or even some random barely legal Japanese chick.
I’m just spitballin’ here. I’m tired, and Mila’s never done it for me.

Sixers getting some Love over on NBATV
"... You play to win the game. Hello? You play to win the game. You don't play it to just play it. That's the great thing about sports: you play to win..."
Man, how deep in the doghouse is Mo Speights? I understand that once the game got out of hand Collins wanted to get Vucevic as much PT as possible at C, but putting him behind Craig Brackins on the garbage time PF depth chart? That’s just cold.
I think we saw in tonight’s game the kind of potential these Sixers have, as a young team with a lot of depth and energy that can run with anyone when they play defense and don’t turn the ball over. They’re not going to be a threat to the Chicagos and Miamis of the world come playoff time, but I could see them taking the #4 seed in the east. If one of the duo of Holiday/Turner takes “the leap” toward true stardom, I think there’s every reason to view a season like that as a major step forward.
I wish Mo Speights could have been moved for some kind of NBA D League prospect. Sigh.

Spencer Hawesome
Through 2 games, he is really showing improvement and consistency.
19 points, 56% shooting, 25 rebounds, 12 assists, 3 blocks, 4 steals, 5 turnovers in 65 minutes.
I’m not saying he’s the starting center of the future, but he is really getting it done. Also, Sixers leading the Atlantic division in point differential (lol). Color me an optimist.
His defense in the first game was still pretty terrible.

Spencer is definitely gonna struggle against athletic players like LaMarcus Aldridge. Luckily, most teams don’t have guys like that.

Only the good, championship-contending teams have players like that :)

I think Hawes can be a borderline top 10 center in the NBA. He’s not going to ever be a star, but he could be a Brad Miller/Vlade Divac/Roy Hibbert type. He’s played well so far, but I’d like to see him be a little more assertive on the offensive end and set up on the low block more. Right now he’s either in the high post, out beyond the 3 point line, or directly underneath the basket. It’s great that he’s an excellent passer and can shoot a 15 foot jumpshot, but when you’re 7’1" you should be posting up at least half the time on offense.
As for the future, whether we keep him beyond this year depends entirely on how much it’ll cost. At the $4 million/year cap number he has now he’s a good bargain, and I might even pay him as much as 7 or 8 million if he continues to work hard and improve, but some dumb team out there is going to be willing to pay him more than that, at which point I’d bow out of the bidding.
