Blazers 107, Sixers 103: Post-Game Thread
That's one in the books. Impressive resilience from our boys but ultimately coming up short in more than one way as the Blazers take the win.
Any fiery rage you'd like to direct at Andre Iguodala? Doug Collins? Malik Rose?
Recap to come in a bit, I'm busy taking Louis Williams out to McDonalds.

I’m not really mad at Dre he was hot too that quarter but Lou was hot at that moment. I’m more pissed that we didn’t call a timeout
Good: Iguodala
Ok: Hawes (bad defense), Lou (bad defense), Turner
Bad: Brand, Jrue, Thad, Meeks.
Pretty remarkable that they only lost by 4.
Andre SIGHuodala.
I’m not mad at no timeout, you don’t want to let the defense get set. But that was a terrible shot with plenty of time left. There are about 100 other things you’d rather do in that situation.
All in all though, to be right there, despite the turnovers and pretty shockingly bad defense, definitely could have asked for a worse start to the season.
Watched the game with a buddy, so I couldn’t make the thread… but we played tough and hung in there.. just gotta take better care of the ball. Questionable shot selection all around. First game, though… all around I liked the effort.
Can’t wait for Mila Kunis pixxx, but for now cue the Natalie Portman photos!

Someone needs to tell Thad to not even consider shooting jumpers. It’s just not going to work.

His J actually looks worse than Iguodala’s, which defies the laws of physics.

BAD
Officiating! These guys should loose their jobs! The game was diminished due to the pathetic calls made. Guys that played through contact got no calls, guys who flopped got every call. It sent the absolute wrong message! G Wallace is a joke he flops on every other play. Holiday played the game the right way and ended up fouling out, while not getting to the line at all. Lou hit ridiculous shots as usual. He is a bargain for the cash he is getting paid. Never understood the animosity toward the guy last year! At least Iggy went to the hoop during this game, but took a bad shot at the end. I put that on Doug just as much for not using the timeout. We needed to make sure we scored on that possession. On a side note, Hawes should have already been on the line after getting the board since he got the shit hacked out of his arms. Thad did take too many jumpers, but he did get the ball with the clock going down. I blame this on the gaurds just as much as on Thad.

Ridiculous amount of offensive fouls called on both ends. Wallace and Felton doing their best Vlade Divac impression the whole game was really annoying.
Doug absolutely has to call the timeout in that situation. Who cares if the defense is set? Iguodala can’t take the game tying shot when the BOSS is on fire like that…

pretty sure that wasn’t the shot doug wanted. Iggy’s been in the league long enough to know a good shot when he sees one. Shouldn’t have to hold one of the team leader’s hands in order to keep him from taking a horrible shot.
That’s the sign of a rebuilding team and one without great leadership

Jrue's nerves
Hard to win when your PG has 2 assists and 6 turns. Not sure what happened. He didn’t look this rattled during the entire Heat playoff series in the first round. Odd.
Where’s the door for me to go vent my frustration at watching Iguodala miss another last second shot?

I don’t know how anyone can knock Dre. He played a hell of a game, and while that wasn’t a great last shot, I don’t know that there’s anyway you get a great look there, unless Collins calls timeout and they try and work something out of a set piece (and even then, the Blazers are pulling everyone to the perimeter…there’s a reason, Aldridge was the guy on Dre at the end).
Holiday had a terrible game and that was really the difference, to me, although the Sixers as a whole were just sloppy all night. There were two or three instances where they cut the lead to 2 or 3 where they just got manhandled the next two possession, the Blazers hit a pair of threes, and it was 7 or 8 before you could blink an eye.
Meeks had a terrible shooting night too in terms of shot selection. Brand’s night was more forgivable, because he didn’t touch the ball a lot. Lou did what he always does (terrible defensively, but can blow up offensively).
I liked what I saw out of Turner, he just wasn’t used enough when he was on the court. The most disappointing thing for me was how bad Thaddeus Young looked away from the basket. He has to start hitting those shots if he’s going to bring his game up to another level.
All in all, I expect Holiday to bounce back so I’m not down on the team in the slightest. Glad they showed some toughness making a run at it late too.
the ball went up with three seconds left on the clock. What are you expecting? Wide open look in the corner?
They dribbled the length of the court, the Blazers put everyone on the perimeter, and the Sixers had to take the three. It’s not exactly a high percentage situation.
the blazers also switched every screen to make it hard for iguodala to just pop a three off a pick. the time ticked down and iguodala realized he had to launch it. definitely needed a timeout in that situation to draw up an inbounds play

they didn’t have to take the 3. the right play there is to take whatever the defense gives you, and he had thad WIDE OPEN under the basket.

that makes it 106-105 and you again try to foul and hope for a miss. but if they don’t miss, you still have your timeout to set something up. Iggy messed up. Plain and simple.
i don’t think anybody’s happy with the shot iguodala put up at the end. but i don’t think it’s wise to expect perfect execution in a late game low percentage pressure situation. Iguodala didn’t make that pass. after that you have to hoist up a three.

Way to drink dougs special kool-aid
Try and have an original thought. They got lucky and hit 75% of their 3’s.

Evan Turner needs to start
I don’t care if he played more minutes than jodie meeks, he needs to start. Getting Tired of Doug already
"I'd never buy my girl a watch... she's already got a clock
over the stove." - Charles Barkley
“Starting” does not matter as you just pointed out that he played more minutes than the guy who started in front of him.
Some guy at PSU Hershey Med Center just discovered a virus that eats cancer. Where were the CNN trucks for that? THON will probably break $10 mil this year. Put that on "Outside the Lines".
This game didn’t come down to that last shot by Iguodala. We never should have been there.
-Jrue was terrible. No reason to mince words. He sucked. He’s gotta be better, period.
-Meeks wasn’t good either, and got pulled for most of the game, justifiably.
-Hawes cannot play 39 minutes. When he does, he starts doing things like shooting 3s (where’s all the hate for that missed shot? Games don’t come down to one shot).
-Collins needs to use a 4th big. He can’t get away with an 8 man rotation. I don’t care if he has no faith in Vucevic or Speights, he needs to swallow it, use one for 5-10 minutes a game, and pray.
-The refs were bad, but they were bad both ways IMO.
-Malik Rose needs to turn down the homer-meter just a liiiiiittle bit. He was getting on my nerves towards the end of the game.
Agree on everything except Malik Rose. The blood is still drying from my ears from listening to Bob Sal-ami and his “parasite” analogies.

I don’t have a problem with Hawes playing major minutes if he plays the way he did the 1st half which is get 10 boards & 6 assists or something like that. Can’t comment on Malik, refs were bad both ways but they gave Portland more calls especially Wallace getting all those flop calls. Agreed on everything else
Props to your guys for some unbelievable shooting
Some of those 4th quarter 3s were completely sick! If that’s normal for the 76ers then I am most definitely envious.
If Boss is Iggy then in a heartbeat
I can only imagine what having Crash Wallace and Dre on the same team would be like.
Impressive resilience, as Mike said
and it was good to see them battling to the end. BUT a reduction in the number of errors made earlier in the game would have made those futile late-game heroics unnecessary in the first place. Turnovers? Missed layups? Rebounding? REBOUNDING? God, how hard it is to box out easily? I didn’t think Hawes looked nearly as good as his numbers (save the assists. He’s a good passer, no question), nor did Iguodala. Williams was BOSSing all night, effectively (more or less). But Aldridge was one of those guys where you just watch and realize that he is simply too good. He is probably the best textbook athletic low-post guy in the league today (Duncan better but not as athletic). His moves are so consistent and unstoppable. Just can’t play D on him. Meanwhile, every shot the Sixers made felt lucky.
Long story short, with less Sixers errors or more Blazers errors this one becomes a Philly win. They have skills and effort, but without more care they can’t win much.
