NBA Basketball Being Played Today Open Thread Christmastime

Here we go.

Sons of Gondor! Of Rohan! My brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of Men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the Age of Men comes crashing down, but it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!

This is your NBA Day One open thread. This is your link to the above speech which will possibly derail your NBA watching in favor of a certain trilogy. This is a picture of a goat. This is how we do it.

Iman Shumpert. Keyon Dooling. Klay Thompson. Randy Foye. Devin Ebanks. Nazr Mohammed. Ryan Anderson. Norris Cole. Vince Carter. Brian Scalabrine.

Begin.

Any Bold Predictions?

I say the Atlantic goes from 1-3: 1) 76ers 2) Knicks 3) Celtics

I think the tightened up schedule is going to kill the Celtics & the lack of PG will hurt the Knicks

I’m anticipating the Knicks winning the Atlantic.

Knicks look good. I think the Sixers have a good shot.

Can’t help it! Just wait an hour for my pessimistic preview – that’ll brighten your Christmas considerably.

by Michael Levin on Dec 25, 2011 10:41 AM PST up reply actions

Yeah but I’d be a little more impressed if the Celts had Pierce instead of Pavlovic

Some of the guys over at addictedtoquack think I’m crazy for thinking the Sixers will beat the Blazers tomorrow night I’m going to make sure they eat crow when we beat them

Is never a good idea

It’s not really trolling since they will do the same thing to me

by The Legend on Dec 25, 2011 10:25 AM PST up reply actions

Yes, it is

Seriously ‘well they did it first’ – what are you four?

I think he’s saying it’s just a friendly jab either way…

Calm down, it’s Christmas

I'm complete calm

I just find being a juvenile trash talker on the internet kind of like being a sarah palin supporter of fox news watcher, an indication of something rather questionable in ones sanity

Rondo is so damn good.

2nd Unit

Watching Knicks – Celts benches go at it, our bench will be a huge advantage to us against Division opponents, especially later in the year.

Yeah our depth will always be one of our advantages. As much as the Celtics annoy me I have so much respect for that squad. Doc always finds ways to keep them motivated and they have grinded their way back into this game.

I’m really liking the Brandon Bass pickup for the Celts..

by jrb5094 on Dec 25, 2011 10:59 AM PST reply actions

What happened? I wasn’t watching because I was eating breakfast & watching my nephew & niece open presents

by The Legend on Dec 25, 2011 11:05 AM PST reply actions

Classic Boston continuing to grind away and classic Knicks getting sloppy.

by jrb5094 on Dec 25, 2011 11:08 AM PST up reply actions

Or

you know – the refs calling the fouls impbalanced, and somehow after the first half garnett (mr punk) only had one and carmelo has 4 in the 3rd quarter so is riding the bench.

But yeah celtics ‘grinding away’ (committing fouls and not getting called for them) can get to you

eh sounds like a bunch of wimpy excuses to me

by jrb5094 on Dec 25, 2011 11:12 AM PST up reply actions

Both teams are getting calls, can’t see how you can say it’s unbalanced.

by jrb5094 on Dec 25, 2011 11:23 AM PST up reply actions

Sounds like a clerics fan to me

Then again. Carmelo back in Knicks make a run. Must be a coinkydink

Carmello’s ballin. We’ll see if it’s enough to pull out the W. So happy the NBA is back. Now if only I can win my fantasy football championship my Christmas will be complete..

by jrb5094 on Dec 25, 2011 11:18 AM PST reply actions

All the teams in the Atlantic division are flawed. Boston is old and slow, NY doesn’t have a back-court or any decent ball handlers. NJ’s injuries and Washington’s immaturity make them non-contenders. Sixers really have a chance in spite of their flaws to win the Atlantic division.

by RickoT on Dec 25, 2011 11:28 AM PST reply actions

I don’t understand why everyone is still fawning over Miami. No one really likes them as a team unless they’re Heat fans. The best team that money can buy is still incomplete, without a dominant big man. When crunch time comes, they don’t get it done. I predict that a retooled Dallas with Lamar Odom added is still a better inside team than Miami, and the Heat still can’t stop Dirk from dominating.

by RickoT on Dec 25, 2011 11:35 AM PST reply actions

The Mavs are solid and will have a shot to get back because I think the West is kind of wide open. I really think think the Mavs will miss Chandler and Barea though. Chandler gave them toughness and an interior presence that they will definitely miss and Barea is just a nightmare to guard because he constantly gets into the lane and causes havoc.

*get back to the finals that is..

by jrb5094 on Dec 25, 2011 12:09 PM PST up reply actions

By the way that Miami team is pretty good..

by jrb5094 on Dec 25, 2011 12:09 PM PST up reply actions

I have no idea how people do not think that Miami is the best team in the league.
