Sixers would like to emulate Pistons from mid-2000s

Here is a portion of the story:
For the Sixers to take the next step, which would mean winning a round in the playoffs, they'd do well to follow the Pistons' lead.
"They were all the things we wanted to be," said Collins, adding to the strengths of the mid-decade Pistons. "They really counted on each other and were tough-minded.
"I think we have the pieces to be a team like that. This might be a year where we have seven guys in double figures, which I hope we can do."

1.) They’ve been saying that they want to be like the Pistons for years now.
2.) I’m pretty sure any halfway decent team without a superstar would like to emulate what they did.
Right. If you don’t have a superstar, and haven’t for half a decade, it’s really the only “plan you can emulate”. Really, what they mean is, they haven’t yet found a way to get a superstar. Or they’re delirious in actually thinking it is feasible to win a title with this group.

They had 5 all stars. All 5 could defend. They had a SG that could shoot and the DPOY at center. We have Hawes and Meeks.
Yup, and Iggy is the only player we have who would’ve started on that Pistons team. Gah.

Which pistons team?
They had a few good years in which brand likely would have started on those pistons teams..
I actually think this blog has merit. Drafting Vucevic had a big impact on Hawes. It looks like it really motivated the young center to become a viable 5 and a nice compliment to brand.
In addition to Hawes’ big improvement the following players all seem to have improved:
young
Turner
Williams
Holiday
Keeping igudala takes a playoff team who showed drastic improvement last season and keeps them together allowing them to build on their success. They gelled last season, improved and could perhaps take another step.
I do not recall any team in recent memory that looks this good with a bunch of 20+ to 32 min players.
I also expect Vucevic to improve over the course of his rookie season adding to the 6ers depth.
Also consider how weak the east looks with bostons aging roster and the 76ers are beginning to look like a team in the early stages of building a pistons-like “team defense/philosophy can win a title” type of organization.
There are still some moves to be made and ome work to be done but don’t write this groups potential off so easily.
Peace
