Malik Rose is a Philadelphia native, having played his high school basketball at Overbook High School before leading Drexel to the NCAA tournament. Rose played 13 seasons in the NBA for the Hornets, Spurs, Knicks and Thunder, winning two championships as a key reserve for the Spurs.

What happened to The Mayor? He was a fantastic color guy.

I think he’s doing both college basketball and d-league stuff. He was terrific. Unfortunately, I think he was a little too critical of the team for the higher ups liking.

If memory serves, I think Steve Mix replaced Hubie Brown…back when Neil Funk provided play by play. Which was a loooong time ago.
Here’s hoping Rose works out. Color commentating in Philly is usually a lifetime appointment.

Salmi and Pinckney were no good. I really didn’t enjoy there voices in general, let alone what they brought to the broadcast.
Snow was good, but he needed more polishing. It was more like listening to a friend do a broadcast then a real color guy. He just had too many pauses, and stumbles on his own words. But he was good, and could have gotten better w/a little development from the Sixers in some broadcasting and speech classes. Maybe he chose not to. I liked Rose a lot from his Spurs days, he was a character. I think he could do well.
But lesson that should have been learned….THE MAYOR WAS GREAT!! Him and Zu made a great, exciting team. Mix and Zu have this enthusiasm, even when there were awful Sixers team. They made the game more exciting than it really was. It wasn’t broke…..
10: great
7: Average
5: Fine
3: Bad
Snow: A sleepy 3
Pinkney: An unmemorable 4
Salmi: 5, smart and boring
Mix: 6 for enthusiasm
I can’t remember a good Sixers color commentator.
See, I thought Mix was a 7.5 or so.

Maybe it’s because I grew up with him, Mix was as good as it gets for me.

Snow was the best of the last three but he was abrasive with Zu at times. I recall a heated tense bit that lasted a quarter and a half of game time last year. I thought Malik did a good job in the preseason game, good mix of polite anecdotes and mild joking around. I loved Steve Mix though butt maybe that was because we were contenders back then and commentating was easier to do enjoyably.
