Collins to use Iguodala in point forward role more
Reports Tom Moore:
After having his lowest usage rate since Iverson was traded, itw ill be interesting to see how much, if at all, this changes the complexion of the team, and what this means for both the long term development and the immediate contributions of Jrue Holiday and Evan Turner.

Is this his way of saying Jrue and Lou and Jodi and Evan aren’t getting it done? I thought the back-court was the Sixers strength. Calling him a point-forward implies he’s playing Andre as a small forward with 2 other guards. It should mean more shots for everyone, but more work for Iguodala, who I pointed out was already playing the point at the end of games anyway.
I’m more worried about the front-court, particularly in half-court sets. It is common knowledge that good teams take care of the ball, limit possessions and try to control the flow of the game. Only teams that can execute in a half-court and/or force a lot of turnovers can win.
Frankly Andre is a very good passer, so I’m not really sure how much of a difference there will be, unless Collins puts him in a pick and roll with a big.
Maybe Doug Collins has some dirt on Stan Van Gundy or Doc Rivers, because apparently he thinks we’re really a Playoff team.
Sorry.
Should’ve put “really” in italics or something. Being a sub .500 7th seed in the East doesn’t make you a real Playoff team. We have no shot whatsoever at beating Boston, Orlando, or Miami in a series. None.
We are not a real Playoff team. It’s laughable that you think being a sub .500 7th seed is something good.
Look, I’m not trying to be too negative about this team, but we’re sacrificing the development of Jrue and Evan when we expand Igoudala’s role. That might be ok if you think Jrue and Evan aren’t important keys to the future. They might not be. But we do know what Igoudala’s Sixers are and aren’t. As long as we have no shot at any real success, I’d rather see what Jrue & Evan’s Sixers can be.
I understand this development issue, however im not sure where i stand on it for the following two reasons:
1.) it might not be a bad thing to teach young players that they have to earn their minutes.
2.) it might not be a bad thing to foster young talent in a winning environment, or in this case, far removed from the cavs with a solid chance at being a winning team.
Like i said, im not sure which side of the fence i want to lean on, but i just dont see this team getting anywhere until we get rid of brand’s contract. If turner and jrue arent developed by then, they might never be.
