76ers 2011 Offseason: Dream Big

With all of the debate amongst ourselves over the 76ers plan for this season (tanking or making a playoff push), It brings to mind what the right moves would be moving forward this offseason.

(Side note: This is my first FanPost so be gentle.)

I'd like to hear everyones feedback on my gameplan, as well as all of your ideas for the team. Base our first round pick on how you believe we will finish this season. I personally believe the Sixers are a playoff team, if only because the East is so weak this year. I'm fine with the first round exit, I enjoy the excitement of the playoffs, and the value of playoff experience can never be overstated. My only qualm is that I do not want to make the playoffs on the heels of Elton Brand, Andre Iguodala, and Louis Williams. This would be an exercise in futility considering the long-term success of the franchise.

With that said, here is my 76ers 2011 wish list.

I would start out by moving Iguodala before the trade deadline. It still keeps myself and Jordan up at night, that the Sixers did not pull the trigger on the AI9 - Batum/Pryzbilla deal. Batum is just 22, plays comparable defense to Iguodala (and is only improving), and has a career 36 3P%. Pryzbilla is hurt, but he expires at the end of the year anyway.

Which leads me to another expiring Portland center...

Greg Oden.

Am I the only one absolutely dying to give the kid a try? I know he's injury prone but his career per 36 is 15.3 ppg, 11.9 rpg and 2.3 bpg. I mean we are paying Tony Battie to be our back-up center, aren't we? Oden will not demand a lot of money, so give him a 1-2 year deal for cheap and see if he can stay healthy. If so we could have a dominant post presence for the next 10 years.

I think he would be a great fit along Mo as he would offset Speezy's defensive deficiences and would allow him to spread the floor a little more offensively without worrying about losing a rebounder down low.

With Rip Hamilton likely on his way out, and McGrady unlikely to be brought back, Detroit will be left with only Rodney Stuckey, Will Bynum and Ben Gordon at the guard spots. With a plethora of forwards (Wallace, Villanueva, Maxiell, Jerebko, Daye, Monroe, Summers) they'll need to move one to acquire another guard.

I say we offer Lou Williams for Jason Maxiell. He has per 36 averages of 12 and 8, though we obviously would not be expecting him to play big minutes like this. He also brings the hustle, energy and willingness to do the dirty work that has been sorely missing since Reggie Evans departure.

This would leave us with Jrue as our PG, and ET and Meeks as our only other guards.

There are a few back up point guards that I wouldn't mind signing such as Earl Boykins and Carlos Arroyo. Both have good attitudes and would benefit Jrue to learn from, considering the only person now he has to look to is Lou Williams. They'd also be serviceable in 10-15 minutes of action as a back-up.

Finally with our draft pick, I'd love for us to take LibertyBallers man crush: Kenneth Faried.

As we've all read about him, he has a great attitude, awesome work ethic and good athleticism. He would definitely be a project but in my dream world we'd have time for him to grow and eventually replace Elton Brand.

My final 2011 dream roster:

PG- Jrue Holiday, Earl Boykins

SG- Evan Turner, Jodie Meeks

SF- Nic Batum, Thad Young, Andres Nocioni

PF- Elton Brand, Jason Maxiell, Kenneth Faried

C - Greg Oden, Marreese Speights

This would give us a frontcourt that could actually rebound and defend, which would be a sight for sore eyes. Our outside shooting would be average, with Batum and Meeks as our best shooters. Jrue and ET's progress would be the most important cog, but in all we'd have a well rounded, young, talented team.
