ShouldThe Sixers be pursuing Carmelo a little more aggressively?

As well Know Carmelo Anthony is one the trading block and the Nuggets are looking to move him. With young players like Lou Williams, Thaddeus Young, Jodie Meeks, Jason Smith, Jrue Holiday, Spencer Hawes, and Evan Turner and the expiring contracts of Willie Green and Jason Kapono along with a 2011 or a 2012 first or second round draft picks would be an attractive offer. I think we can make a legitimate push to make Melo' a Sixer's he would definitely provide the scoring punch that we need and he and Igoudala would be a legitimate 1-2 punch.

Present and future look bleak anyways with the roster we have now we will be 10 or 11th in East…..Green, Turner, Smith and a future first round pick.

How does the future look bleak with Holliday, Turner, Hawes, Speights, Iguoudala (or whatever the Sixers trade him for) and some expiring contracts? We get Carmelo we will have to trade away a couple picks and some players and hope he will sign an extension with the team (which is unlikely).

by JoshuaR on Sep 22, 2010 8:21 AM PDT up reply actions

It is highly unlikely that we could keep both Iguodala and Anthony, It would be one or the other, and even if it was both, they still lack the interior defense and scoring that are essential.

So the answer is no, they shouldn’t pursue Anthony, but try to facilitate a trade that will bring them the player they need a Center or Power Forward.

we dont know what to expect from Turner or Holliday they are both possibles. It seems like we been rebuilding since AI left town, Noe doubt that Collins will have the team playing hard as possible we still lack a number 1 option. Remember 27-55 last year, we looking at about the same record this coming year,

I see where the confusion lies and I apologize…any combination of these players or draft picks would be an attractive offer..

Why would they trade so much for a back-up SF?

Teams without Chapu lost 1173 games during the 2009-'10 season.

ignore the guy, it’s just an act. He was referring to his washed-up man crush in Nocioni.

Both Speights and Hawes aren’t exactly good bigs:

Hawes FPG per 36 last two seasons: 4.0 and 3.8(this is actually an improvement over his rookie year, where per 36 it was nearly 5 FPG).

Between Speights and Hawes, we have the worst interior in basketball bar none. The only way the Sixers will come out of this alive is if Elton Brand drinks the elxir of youth.

this isn’t philly.com. If you happen look at the part of the screen that says, “LeQuan Glover” then carefully scroll your eyes to the right, just past the date and time, you will notice it says, “reply” in blue. With regards to other peoples’ names, if you click on that same “reply” button, a box will appear below.
Inside that box, you can type all sorts of things, anywhere from sound logical arguments, to the usual stuff you think up. After clicking the “post” button, you will notice that it posts a reply to the person of intent, rather than ending up at the bottom of the thread, leaving readers to question who exactly you were replying to.

My usual stuff Jefu? So you don’t believe we have the worst front-court in the NBA? That’s fine, I’ll kindly ask you to reference me to a team even more hopeless. Even the Minnesota Timberwolves have Darko Milicic, whose developed to be a servicable player.

you actually called darko serviceable… ok your basing this off of video games.

by killacaravagio on Sep 24, 2010 11:26 AM PDT up reply actions

Agreed

Darko is still a tool. 2 months of semi-promising play for a losing team while in a contract year does NOT equal being a “serviceable player”

needs a poll

so i can vote yes.

We don't need 8 in the box. We have 52 in the box.

i dont think the sixers should try to acquire anthony. he seems to have his mind set on the knicks or bulls. i wouldnt want a player that doesnt want to be here. i wouldnt mind seeing them being a part of the trade so we could acquire draft picks and possibly a center. if he was willing to sign an extension and the sixers ownership was fully committed to build around him, then absolutely i’d love to have him playing for the sixers.

this

it would be one thing if we were contenders and having Melo would put us over the top, but we’re a long way from that and I’m not down with giving up all those pieces for a 1 and done player. I’d rather have a Favors or another young talent come our way in the melo deal, if it ever goes down.
