Fagan: Carmelo to Sixers unlikely
Via Deep Sixer
This trade is one of the more interesting to surface this summer, but it's also (sorry Sixers' fans who want Anthony) very unlikely to go down.
No surprise, and essentially good news. Anthony isn't the one I want in the first place, especially if Iguodala and/or Turner is involved.

I’ll admit that the rumored three way deal in there (Iguadola to Denver, Anthony to New Jersey, and Favors to the Sixers) might be intriguing, depending on what other pieces were involved.
i’d do it if andre were the only main piece given up (as in no first round picks)

Which is why I said "depending on what other pieces were involved"
I’d expect to receive pick(s) in the deal, not give them up. The only other question I’d have is what salaries the Sixers would have to take on (shouldn’t be anything on multi-year deals) to match up numbers for salary cap purposes.
who’s good at trade machine and can figure out the salary stuff?
i think the nets have a lot of 2-3 year deals that are in the 3-5 mil range that would need to be worked around

Those who hate fantasy trades, please avert your eyes…
I think you gotta start with Anthony at like 18, Dre at 12.3, Favors at 4.1. NJ has about $2.5m of cap space (so that make Anthony about $15.5. Murphy is 11.9, so that make 16 from the nets…..Philly would have to plug in Willie Green (maybe LouWill) .
Or you’d have to replace Murphy with Dev Harris (9mil) AND Terence Williams (2m) (then flip Harris to someone else) . Those new guys (Petro, Outlaw, Morrow, Farmar) cant be traded until Dec 15, 2010.
Apparently we have a $2.1 mil trade exception from the Dally trade…not sure where that would fit though.
NJ Gets:
Carmelo ($18m)
Philly Gets:
PF Favors
SF T Williams
PG Devin Harris (who would go to a 4th team)
GS 2012 #1 pick (via NJ)
Maybe 1 of the 2nd rnd picks
Denver Gets:
SF Igoudala ($12.3)
$2mil trade exception from NJ cap space
Lou Williams, Thad Yound or Willie Green
NJ 2011 pick (via NJ) and 1 or 2 2012 2nd rd picks
Not sure who the 4th team could be (Minny? Get them ANOTHER PG for maybe Wesley Johnson or Martell Webster). Portland ? Any ideas?
geez – for that matter – Dev Harris could just to Denver and we get Nene…not sure I like that though…
Harris could be sent to Portland for Oden and Babbit (I love this iteration)
That seems way too lopsided against the Nets (although they get the best player in the deal.)
If they are looking to win with Lopez and Melo, you have to figure they hold onto Harris. Otherwise who is their PG? Farmar is not a playoff caliber starting PG (All-Tribe status not-withstanding :) )
And I would imagine Iguodala (and his contract) is not worth the #3 overall pick (Favors) so the Sixers would have to sweeten the deal (Young or Speights?)
So this would be the Nets core:
Harris(28)
T Will (23)
Melo (26)
? (Murphy this year)
Lopez(22)
Bench: Morrow(25), Outlaw(26)
Not bad.
While the Sixers core would be:
Jrue(20)
Turner(22)
?Thad(22)
?Speights(23)
Favors(19)
Bench: Lou(24), Hawes(22), Meeks(23)…. Brand and Smith
I assume either Speights, Thad or Lou would be gone…
Leaves a high risk high upside roster. The youngest in the league (aside from Brand) and in position to get a lottery pick or 2 and then a huge amount of cap space when Brand expires.
Sounds good to me. Make it happen BK :)
I think either Murphy or Harris might HAVE to be in it for Salary Cap purposes. I think the Nets go with Farmar (who wanted a shot at starting) and try to get Chris Paul next, using Carmelo as the lure.
Think of it as more: NJ is giving up Favors, Harris and TWilliams (or Kris Humphries – for salary filler) and draft picks for Carmelo. Thats probably what they would have to give Denver straight up.
So is the other deal with Favors coming here still on the table? Or is that unlikely as well? I am also glad this is not going to go down, as I don’t really think Anthony fits into the long-term plan here.
the original article said it hasn’t been proposed, just discussed internally, and didn’t say who/whcih teams discussed it internally. it was very speculative.

Melo for Chapu (plus filler)
Why wouldn’t the Nuggets take that trade?
"Oh, y ahora ¿quién podrá defenderme?" "¡Yo!"
I don’t see Anthony as a player to build a team around. I don’t think he’s really an inside presence. So I don’t care if we can’t get him. I would be willing to let Andre Iguodala go for Derrick Favors, however. I wouldn’t mind throwing in an additional player either, as long as it’s Kapono, Green, or even Brand!
If the Sixers could make that happen, I’d be very surprised and very pleased. Frankly, I think NJ has a great front line in Favors and Lopez, and they’d be stupid to break them up to add Carmello. If they’re willing to trade Favors, you have to wonder why. I would build around him and Lopez and think I had the basis for a Championship team. Carmello would be perfect with those two, but otherwise it doesn’t make NJ appreciably better.
I think if we could pair Favors with Speights we’d have a competitive front line, and the Sixers instantly become better. It would give Collins a real chance to do something positive right away. I just don’t see it happening, but the roster definitely needs more changes.
I'd want Melo EXCEPT
if it’d mean trading Jrue, Thad, Speights, Lou, or Turner
