"The Sixers are an enigma. They have talent. The problem, as Sixers fans are well aware, is that GM Ed Stefanski's plan for the team is still a mystery. In recent years Philadelphia has signed Elton Brand to a huge contract, let Andre Miller walk to save money, brought in another expensive veteran in Nocioni, traded away Dalembert, hired and fired coach Eddie Jordan, hired a new coach in Doug Collins and made other moves that demonstrate no particular direction.

So while the Sixers have an interesting young core of Turner, Jrue Holiday and Thaddeus Young, the team is also bogged down by players with bad contracts like Brand, Nocioni and Andre Iguodala, overloaded with overlapping talents and lacking shooting and an inside defensive presence."

Iguodala has a fair contract, but the conclusion is correct. They don’t have a defensive presence inside and they don’t have inside or outside scorers and suffer from overlapping talent.

They should have drafted a big man, and they shouldn’t have taken Nocioni without a way to get rid of him. It would suck if he became another Elton Brand, where we get stuck playing out his contract until he’s worth something as an expiring. Dalembert had to go, but I don’t think we got anything of value in return. Bad as he was, Sam was a starting NBA Center.

The Sixers should be busy on the phones trying to work out trades, they have too many small forwards, are missing a point guard and a big man with some credentials. Hawes, Speights, Smith and Battie are your Centers? Really? Doug is ok with this? I think the roster needs a lot of work, maybe some players will come available after they get caught in a numbers game trying to make a good team.

Agree with this. Improved young talent pool, improved front office, improved coaching staff.

Disappointing stuff from Ford

Lumping Iguodala in the “bad contracts” list is a joke. Agreed on our needs, but I personally can’t complain much about the off-season.

I wonder what Eric Dampier would cost them?

by RickoT on Sep 15, 2010 4:38 PM PDT reply actions

That’s a bad idea for both parties. Dampier won’t want to come here, and why would the Sixers sign a veteran who should be signing somewhere he can help win a championship this year?

Uh, yes Iguodala is a bad contract. He’s getting paid 12.5 million and he’ll be under contract the next several years!

Iguodala isn’t going to develop a 3pt shot or handles anytime soon, nor a post game. He is what he is, a 3rd option solid defensive player.

In no way, does Iguodala deserve anywhere close to 12.5 million.
