Amar'e in Israel
So this isn't strictly Sixers news per se, and one could argue that it's not even really basketball news, but Amar'e Stoudemire is currently in Israel "exploring his roots" - he believes he might be Jewish from his mom's side, which is, of course, that side that counts for Jews. I figured that since we have a pretty dandy Jewish population on this blog (although it certainly doesn't compare to that of his new home, New York), we could probably generate a pretty fun conversation on the topic. I'll just say that I'm excited to have a new Member of the Tribe, and he certainly shores up the front of the All-Jewish NBA team,

I'll play.
5-11, 230, and a couple rudimentary low-post moves. I can hit a foul-line turnaround too, a la dirk.
Jordan Farmar at PG
Jon Sheyer at SG
Omri Casipi SF
??? PF
Amare C
Larry Brown: Coach
Red Auerbach GM
Harold Katz Owner (actually no…)
So who is the PF? We can’t dig up Danny or Dolph (Shayes)
Is A.P. jewish… or did he just play professionally for Maccabi?
BTW, I think we are stuck with this guy at PF, becasue I can’t find anyone else:

StepienRules: You wear the number eighteen in tribute to your days overseas. Can you talk to me about that?
Anthony Parker: The number eighteen in the Jewish faith it means ‘chai,’ which is a symbol for life and good fortune, and when I came back to the NBA, I didn’t want to just choose a meaningless number. A lot of the numbers I would have taken were taken already, and so I thought that it was a good way to carry what happened in Israel with me, and kinda say thanks to all the fans, and the country as a whole, while taking those memories with me to the NBA.
…but I still don’t think he is Jewish.
I was thinking about the Schayesesess. But I think we have to outlaw non-active players for this exercise.
Don’t think Parker is Jewish, though – but TAMIR GOODMAN is – the Jewish Jordan! Gotta put him on the team. Think he’s an SG.
Have you seen his jewtube clips?
Ha, I remember that kid. All that talk about going to Maryland and not playing on Saturday… and he let us all down.
Was Fletch Jewish?
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Goodman first attracted national attention after profiles in Sports Illustrated, ESPN, and 60 Minutes, and raised eyebrows after a series of high-profile college recruitment offers. Ultimately, Goodman decided to play college basketball for Towson University, and in 2002 made aliyah to play professionally in the Israeli basketball leagues for Maccabi Tel-Aviv, and then Maccabi Haifa. Goodman recently announced his retirement from professional basketball, and has been focusing on leading basketball clinics,
He actually does one at the Ramah Poconos overnight camp.

Sorry, not Brown...
Red Holzman was head-and-shoulders above Brown as a coach…the ’70 and ’73 Knicks never beat the Lakers without him…
