Bobcats/Sixers GameThread - What's a LeBron?

People with picture-in-picture FTW. This is the last summer league Sixers game that'll air on NBATV because they're switching to the Vegas guys tomorrow. Enjoy. I'm convinced my work was canceled today just so I could watch 12 straight hours of LeBron coverage. Well played, internship. Well played indeed.

Thread it here and I promise I won't delete LeBron comments. Unless of course they are poo.

Lebron? You mean that guy who did not believe he could “be like Mike” in Cleveland or Chicago, so will try and be like Pippen in Miami?

by tk76 on Jul 8, 2010 3:02 PM PDT reply actions

He’d still be mike. Bosh is terribly overrated. Wade’s great, but I don’t see the fit at all.

by Derek Bodner on Jul 8, 2010 3:03 PM PDT up reply actions

And I bet whatever scrubs they get to fill out the roster will be turned into stars by the media.

I could see Willie Green being treated like Fisher if he played with the trioka and won titles.

by tk76 on Jul 8, 2010 3:06 PM PDT up reply actions

All 3 are Nike players. Do you think Nike will kick in some extra to make up the non-max difference because of all of the marketing possibilities a potential multiple title team brings?

by tk76 on Jul 8, 2010 3:07 PM PDT up reply actions

Yes. The fuss about the difference in money is overblown in my mind. Whatever they lose they’ll more than make up for in marketing.

If this Kapono to Miami thing is true I hope we get Jarvis Varnardo in return.

whaaaa? Where’d you hear this?

by guitarmouse35 on Jul 8, 2010 4:31 PM PDT up reply actions

No Jrue tonight, hammy injury. Do they play ET at the PT to give him a better scenery and give him opportunities to play on the ball?

by LeQuan Glover on Jul 8, 2010 4:13 PM PDT reply actions

Yep, no Jrue. Expect a breakout from Turner.

by Jordan Sams on Jul 8, 2010 4:16 PM PDT up reply actions

The real reason Jrue isn’t playing is because he wants to watch THE DECISION.

by Jordan Sams on Jul 8, 2010 4:17 PM PDT reply actions

That’s a good thing. He’s improved to be average, but just average.

by LeQuan Glover on Jul 8, 2010 4:17 PM PDT reply actions

Evan Turner: Please stop that. Keep it to yourself. Dumb passes like that are automatic turnovers.

by LeQuan Glover on Jul 8, 2010 4:19 PM PDT reply actions

Does anyone feel like we got the worst front-court not only in the summer league, but I’m afraid about us in the NBA. Teams are gonna score inside at will.

by LeQuan Glover on Jul 8, 2010 4:20 PM PDT reply actions

Yeah

We need someone who can play defense.

by guitarmouse35 on Jul 8, 2010 4:29 PM PDT up reply actions

I really hope we didn’t draft an Iggy clone with the 2nd pick of the draft….He’s lost the ball more times in this game then Jrue in the whole summer league

by LeQuan Glover on Jul 8, 2010 4:30 PM PDT reply actions

Turner looks a little sluggish.

by guitarmouse35 on Jul 8, 2010 4:31 PM PDT reply actions

Just a reminder to Collins/Stefanski: If Turner is exhausted by this, do you really expect him to produce at a high level with road trips, etc. He’s a project to me right now.

by LeQuan Glover on Jul 8, 2010 4:32 PM PDT reply actions

Nice block by Ced. We need that this year.

by guitarmouse35 on Jul 8, 2010 4:33 PM PDT reply actions

The most impressive guy has been Jodie Meeks though, he’s picking off where he left off in April and he’s making me wonder, if we should’ve just rolled the dice with Cousins.

by LeQuan Glover on Jul 8, 2010 4:34 PM PDT reply actions

Cedric Simmons, Jodie Meeks, these guys can contribute to an NBA team, hopefully ours.

And I read on here a rumor about Kapono for Varando. I’d love that. Varando is one of the best defensive bigs in the country and we should’ve went after him hard.

by LeQuan Glover on Jul 8, 2010 4:35 PM PDT reply actions

I said the Heat want Kapono and if that is true the player I would want back is Varnardo

NBA.Com, maybe the scoreboards there

by LeQuan Glover on Jul 8, 2010 4:45 PM PDT reply actions

It’s frustrating, watching this and knowing your Sixers NBA squad isn’t that much better then the summer league version.

by LeQuan Glover on Jul 8, 2010 4:47 PM PDT reply actions

1. That’s not true.
2. Stop coming to conclusions based on a few summer league games
3. Use the reply function in the future when you want to reply to someone.

In my “What does it all mean” summer league post this weekend, Jodie Meeks is going to be grading mighty high — looking good, kid.

I like Jodie a lot because he actually tries on defense and I just hope he can become lights out from 3, he’d be so valuable for us then. How’s Ced doing so far? Any “howling at the rim”?

Looking awkward, not great hands, but the raw ability is still there. I just think he’s gotta get more work in.

1.Okay, so who on our roster for example is better front-court wise? Spencer Hawes? Kings fans long wanted him gone because of the lack of defensive intensity and strength. Elton Brand and all of his 6.5 RPG?(Ugh)

2.The only conceivable upgrade would be on the perimeter, where we got guys like Lou Williams and Thaddeus Young. Maybe Iguodala if he returns to his 47-49% FG percentage but that’s unlikely.

3.Gotcha :).

by LeQuan Glover on Jul 8, 2010 4:59 PM PDT reply actions

I don’t think your numbers correlated with my comments. Our actual roster is much better than our summer league roster. This isn’t worth discussing.

Maybe Iguodala if he returns to his 47-49% FG percentage but that’s unlikely.

How did you come to this conclusion? And you didn’t use the reply function.

Well, if you go on NBA.Com’s hotshots, two things stand out. One: Iguodala shoots some 30% like 10 feet from the rim, and a similar percentage from 3pt range. Iguodala’s best asset is mid-range. Yet, does Iguodala shoot there that much? No, not really. Iguodala thrives on taking ill-advised long jumpers, which go in and out.

I don’t see the floor spacing and/or the openings for Iguodala to ever return to a 47% shooter. And I never really liked him.

by LeQuan Glover on Jul 8, 2010 5:07 PM PDT up reply actions

What does any of that have to do with the Sixers’ talent vs. the Summer League team’s talent?

We’re still very early, but that’s assuming you wanna watch. First: No Holiday(Hammy), No Speights(unknown). Second: Jodie Meeks is trying his damned hardest to keep us in this game.

by LeQuan Glover on Jul 8, 2010 5:02 PM PDT up reply actions

I see 40-42 wins max. And that’s being very positive.(IE: If Brand returns to form, if Turner can provide another 15 PPG of offense). In reality, from what I see from some of our key players(Speights and Turner) here? 35-39 wins.

No interior defense. No outside shooting, likely no spacing.

There’s not enough pieces and we should just rebuild already.

by LeQuan Glover on Jul 8, 2010 5:09 PM PDT reply actions

This is rebuilding.

if Turner can provide another 15 PPG of offense

I don’t even KNOW what your nitpicking about.

First, the reply function still works. Second, it’s silly that you are indicating how many points Evan Turner scores this season will be an accurate portrayal of both his and the team’s success. Third, you said “he thrives on taking ill-advised jumpers that go in and out”

I’m clicking the reply button and I’m typing the message in the box, I’m not so sure what else should I do. Second: It will be a accurate portrayal, we had one of the worst half-court offenses in the league last year(yes, while Jordan ruined our defense. It also exposed our offense). How bad? How about we could barely beat the Nets bad?

Turner was and could still be a player that adds a dimension to a horrible half-court offense. Perhaps thrive was the wrong word, but Iguodala likes to take that fade-away 17-19 foot outside shot, to no avail for him or the team

by LeQuan Glover on Jul 8, 2010 5:22 PM PDT up reply actions

Our front court didn’t help much either. I know we like to point out Iguodala, Lou Williams, Willie Green, etc etc….but there was no cohesion in our 5 players (on the court) at all, in my opinion. We like to concentrate on Iguodala because he is at the top of the list but his game isn’t taking a set number of shots per game or carrying an offense on his back. I think we can all agree that his shot is pretty damn excruciating to look at. However, the 17-19 range is where he does the most damage as far as jump shots go.

Regardless, our back court needs to generate offense both directly and indirectly to facilitate the front court, our “strength”. Unfortunately, our back court is our “weakness” so its like fighting an uphill battle, AFTER we’re dug into a hole around 50 feet deep.

If our guys, Speights and co come in and block shots and rebound, that’s important. Speights has done a decent job lately, but he hasn’t been consistent. Simmons has been okay, and I’d like to bring him into the organization but at best he’s a 3rd/4th big. Jason Smith also, he needs to have a strong season like his rookie year in terms of being a weak-side shotblocker.

But I still think those kinds of bigs aren’t going to get it done in the NBA. Our front-court is our weakness, not only offensively but defensively,. I’m afraid.

I’m afraid defensively, I’m afraid we’re gonna give up pts inside, I’m afraid our bigs will be in foul trouble. I’m afraid we’ll be outrebounded.

by LeQuan Glover on Jul 8, 2010 5:42 PM PDT up reply actions

We’re not good. No one expects this team to contend this year. Our bigs getting into foul trouble couldn’t have any less of an effect on the future success of this franchise.

No it couldn’t and your right, we’re not a good team. But we’re not rebuilding by taking Nocioni’s contract. Unless we’re aiming for the summer of 2013 and Dwight Howard. We’re “retooling”. And frankly, we’re not good enough to retool.

by LeQuan Glover on Jul 8, 2010 5:55 PM PDT up reply actions

The only reason we took Nocioni was so we could avoid the luxury tax this year by trading Dalembert.
