Why can't the Sixers go get Chris Paul?
As we have heard this week, Chris Paul is angling an exit strategy from the New Orleans Hornets. Paul has stated he would like to form another Super Team to challenge the Miami Heat. Inside sources reportely saw Paul make a toast at Carmelo's Wedding recently that he would like to play with both Carmelo & Amar'e in the near future for the NY Knicks. Alot of unknowns right now: Future Collective Bargaining Agreement, Hornet's control Paul for the next two seasons and Carmelo has a big contract offer that is on the table. My question to the Sixer Nation is, why cannot we form a Super Team in Philadelphia?
Before everyone shoots down the idea, let me try to make a case of it to happen:
-The Hornets will seek young talent and some of their bad contracts in any deal for Chris Paul, if they indeed put him on the market. The Sixers have an ace in the hole with young talent-Evan Turner. Now taking back bad contracts as well maybe difficult to due, but not impossible. Okafur is the player who the Hornets would like to rid themselves of, by the way plays a position of need for the Sixers. A third team maybe needed, to furfill the contracts coming off the books by the Hornets. A package starting with Evan Turner will get their attention.
-Wouldn't Paul just opt out when his contract expires? Always a possibility, but not if you bring in another superstar, such as Carmelo Anthony. Now a deal with Carmelo will be much more difficult to complete, but a package starting with AI2 is a good start, but we would probably need to add a little more to get it done. We could use New Orleans in a three way to make it possible. If Carmelo does what Paul is expected to do, they will seek the best compensation for Anthony's services.
-With only Paul & Carmelo, where is the third superstar? Who knows what the team would look like if these two difficult acquistions were ever made, but luring that third elite superstar free agent will not be diffult to do, if two already are on board. Who knows, it could be Dwight Howard down the road or someone else sooner! My point is getting these two players together will make it happen.
It is time for Sixer's Management to take a big chance and go all out to make this a reality. Once one domino is in place, the other two will become easier to obtain. I know I am shooting for the skys for this to happen, but why can't the Sixers go get Chris Paul?

I don't think its viable.
I have no idea how it’ll work out with the numbers but, I don’t think it would be plausible and I doubt Paul would be interested in Philadelphia as a place of interest.

why not offer
holiday rather than turner? holiday and iguodala and kapano maybe for okafor and cp3?
although i know it would never happen i would prefer to give jrue up than turner
cowboy, you got a good point. I would pull a deal for cp3 for Iguadola, turner and kapono. The only thing is cp3 is looking to get “aboard” a contender. And jrue is our pg right now. Iguadola’s contract isnt that bad. We all know about brand. In a post stephanski world, it would be enteraining. But, it is what it is.
Not dealing Andre & Evan for Paul!
As I tried to explain, New Orleans would seek young talent and to take Okafur’s contract off their books. You offer a package starting with Evan Turner. Maybe it also one or two other young prospects such as Speights, Young, Holliday or Hawes. The only issue would be how the Sixers would take on Okafur’s Contract. I do not believe you would need to put Andre in a package to acquire Chris Paul. Now you still have Andre to deal for the next superstar to team up with Chris Paul. If it is Carmelo Anthony so be it. Would you think this team is at least in consideration of being a contender:
C-Okafur
PF-Brand
SF-Carmelo
SG-depends who is left after the trades
PG-Paul
In my opinion, this is a legit Title Contending Team! Just for arguments sake, let me see if a three way deal is possiblle via the trade machine and see if each would get fair compensation in return.
It can happen
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=28lh44q
Sixers lineup:
PG: Chris Paul
SG: Evan Turner
SF: Carmelo Anthony
PF: Elton Brand
C: Emeka Okafur
Unfortunately I think the Sixers would end up being a worse team
Nice attempt!
Not sure that package would satify either team, but it is a good starting point. New Orleans would need Evan Turner over Lou Williams and the Nuggets would need an additional value player to make it work, such as a David West. Point is, it is not out of possibility to make it happen. It is up to the Sixer Organization to get the courage and take a big gamble to make this a reality!
That's all we have to offer
NO gets the next Gary Payton, a 22 yr old SF/PF who gives you 15 points and 5 rebounds a game, a combo gaurd that can come off the bench and give 20 points a game, and 10 million in expiring contracts.
Denver gets a top 6 SF in the league, two first round picks, a 7ft PF/C with potential and a scorer off the bench.
Anyway I don’t like the trade and it would never work out for the Sixers.
We would give up 9 players in return for 3. If we trade Turner we won’t have a SG. We would also have 75 million in salary and only 8 players on the roster. I don’t think we would even be able to compete with Boston!
Wouldn’t it be funny if they end up joining the Knicks next year? All we would have left is Elton Brand.
we would only win 2 games next year, lol
Anyway I think ESPN trade machine bases the +/- on the player efficiency rating they give each player. This trade has the Sixers trading 9 players in exchange for 3 so the PER going out would be greater than the PER coming in. It’s a nice system but it has it’s flaws.
That would be awesome.

I fooled around with it and did this...
I was able to get Melo and CP3 while also getting rid of Brand’s contract.
PG: CP3
SG: The Villian
SF: Melo
PF: Kenyon Martin
C: Emeka Okafur
Bench:
Nocioni
Hawes
Battie

I also changed it so that we kept Dre by giving back Martin’s expiring contract. The line-up would be this:
PG: CP3
SG: The Villian
SF: Dre
PF: Melo
C: Emeka Okafur
Instead of -25 wins it would be -21 but we’d have a ton of money tied up in four of our starters.

It doesn't make sense for New Orleans to take Brand's 51 million dollar contract
When
a. They are trading their superstar
b. When they already have David West
Also I think N.O would want us to take on Posey’s contract too.
Taking that into consideration...

I don’t like it as much at all.

Final Thoughts!
Well it appears Chris Paul maybe happy to be a Hornet right now, but that should change daily. My point of this conversation is, young superstars want to follow Lebron’s lead and form these so called super teams. Give props to Kevin Durant for wanting to meet the challenge ahead of him, rather than join one of these so called super teams. The Celtics Super Team proved it can be successful, but let’s see how Miami fares the next few seasons. In this current format, the Sixers have absolutely no chance to compete, as do many other teams around the league. If there is another Super Team forming this season or next, they need to go make it happen in Philadelphia!
