Gotta find one of those crazy owner-dictated teams who go off of nothing but $$$$…NO?
by Dylan Marck on Jun 24, 2010 11:43 AM PDT up reply actions
Willie Green is an expiring contract. Therefore he has some value. There’s also Jason Kapono for the owner wanting to clear more space. He’s like the upgrade over the Willie Green model expiring contract.
Expiring contracts have ‘some’ value – but if it’ JUST because of the contract, most of that value is is not until February, quoting someone on the value of vince carter
Its not… Vince becomes more attractive in Feburay when the Magic have paid 70% of his contract… until then no team is gonna see Vince as someone that helps them win a playoff game.

Draft party
Is anyone going down to the draft party at Wachovia? I am weighing watching it on he couch or down there? What is everyone else doing?
It’s been avidly reported that numerous draft picks are available for cash on the barrle (give a team 3 million dollars, buy a pick) In fact minnesota has two in the low 20s.
Like i said earlier – the only thing preventing the sixers from getting additional picks in this draft is comcasts cheapness…so don’t buy any of this move crap if it doesn’t happen – it’s cause they wouldn’t pony up the cash
by jemagee on Jun 24, 2010 11:50 AM PDT reply actions
Assuming this happens, which is a big assumption, who’d you want in terms of big men that would be available later first early second?
i know jordan wants solomon alabi
daniel orton might be an option there
trevor booker will be too but he’s a little undersized being a 6’7" PF
my choice would be craig brackins – was a projected lottery pick last year so the potential is there if he brings everything together

what do you think about Brackins, I like him like Tanner… looks to be a sleeper and didn’t benefit from his teammates much, which he would definitely with Jrue/Turner.
Haven’t researched that deep, so don’t know much about him. Miannerk can tell you all about him.

I would like to keep lou, get rid of willie green and elton brand. Willie has to be the most boring player i have ever seen.
Any reason they can’t get rid of all of them?

i want lou. i think he fits our system well. and can be decent behind either jrue or soon to be sixer evan
by TitansJonne on Jun 24, 2010 12:01 PM PDT reply actions 1 recs
Lou Williams is crap defensively (it seems that no one who posts here cares about defense any more – and wasn’t that why collins was hired?)
And he’s a crap point guard – so him backing up jrue is silly
How do you know what system the sixers have? Did Collins tell you?
by jemagee on Jun 24, 2010 12:04 PM PDT up reply actions
why so angry? Collins will let the team play to their strenghts. And whats that? Running. Not to mention lou is a decent pg offensively. I just think his athleticism will help us off the bench and he can only get better.
by TitansJonne on Jun 24, 2010 12:09 PM PDT up reply actions
I’m not angry, I’m tired of people who think Lou Williams is a good basketball player
by jemagee on Jun 24, 2010 12:20 PM PDT up reply actions
Lou Williams is good basketball player. It’s your thinking that’s in error.
How great a defender is Steve Nash? His lack of speed didn’t stop him from becoming an All-Star, but Lou Williams is a much better defender and scorer. With better spot up shooters to pass to, he might actually put up good assist numbers too.
Further, as a back-up point/Sixth man ( yeah Jrue’s size makes him the preferred starter) He is particularly well suited to giving the Sixers offense a jolt.
Most players have flaws in their game, or aren’t complete players Dwight Howard lacks NBA post moves. And there are plenty of other examples. You wouldn’t argue that any of them were bad basketball players!
Interesting assertions without any support – but see there’s this
the 35 year old Nash and the “JOHN WALL AGED” Louis Williams
Check This Out Sure nash turns the ball over a lot more but check out that assist ratio (oh wait i get it, that’s not lou’s fault either, right?)
Steve nash might not be a ‘great’ defnder but at 35 he’s just as good as the ‘john wall aged’ louis williams.
I’ve noticed a tendncy in your arguments ricko – a players flaws are never their fault – it’s someone elses
Are you SURE yo’ve never used the screen name carcharios?
by jemagee on Jun 24, 2010 2:10 PM PDT up reply actions
who cares? he’s a good scoring guard off the bench. if he was a great defender and great point guard he’d be chris paul.
by Jordan Sams on Jun 24, 2010 12:19 PM PDT up reply actions
If he were a point guard you could say ’he’ll back up jrue holiday’ – but the only thing point guard about him is his height
the sixers bench only has scoring – and nothing else
by jemagee on Jun 24, 2010 12:20 PM PDT up reply actions
did any of the final four teams have a “true point guard” backing up the starters? maybe the Magic, but that’s it. It’d be nice, but I’d rather have a dope scorer like Lou than a “true point guard” who sucks at everything else.

cool. why don’t we just stop arguing about lou williams until you can present some sort of evidence that he’s as terrible as you say he is.
so what that he’s a bad defender. steve nash is a bad defender. does that make him a terrible player? if nash can win 2 mvps and be a top 5 point guard despite his lack of defense than lou can be a good bench player.
by Jordan Sams on Jun 24, 2010 12:35 PM PDT up reply actions
I’ve yet to see any evidence that he’s good.
So now we’re comparing Lou Williams and Steve Nash
Do you know what passing is – because that’s something steve nash does obscenely well (by the way – also a better shooter than lou) – and lou doesn’t do well at all
Is your implication that Steve Nash is a one dimensional player who does NOTHING useful to help his team but shoot and run down the shot clock to the detriment of other players on the floor?
by jemagee on Jun 24, 2010 12:37 PM PDT up reply actions
i could make the argument that none of them are better than lou williams.

Nate Robinson is no worse than lou williams (seriously though – Robinson is terrible and as useful as Lou but at least fans like the midget)
by jemagee on Jun 24, 2010 12:33 PM PDT up reply actions
On the lakers (vujacic) the point guard isn’t asked to score much
If lou williams isn’t asked to score – what good is he on the floor – he’s a ball hog – how do you think guys like kobe, and pau and odom (if he’s still on the team) would enjoy Louis Williams holding the ball until the shot clock runs down and then driving to the basket cause he’s a no passing ball hog?
Do you think that would go over well?
by jemagee on Jun 24, 2010 12:36 PM PDT up reply actions

by jemagee on Jun 24, 2010 12:39 PM PDT up reply actions
Dragic could run a team on the floor….but in terms of Lou, I would rather give those scoring guard off the bench minutes to Meeks to see if he can play.
I believe Lou can do the same things Dragic can. They’re both the same type of player.

Are the sixers ANYWEHERE CLOSE TO BEING A FINAL FOUR TEAM?
by jemagee on Jun 24, 2010 12:25 PM PDT up reply actions
then what does a true back-up point guard matter?
by Jordan Sams on Jun 24, 2010 12:26 PM PDT up reply actions
Lets just drop it. I think Lou is a good option off the bench because he can score and brings energy to a team that is all about energy and tempo. He isnt a great ps or sg. If he was then he’d be starting, but i think off the bench, his talents are useful. You may want a well rounded player and i respect that as well.
by TitansJonne on Jun 24, 2010 12:27 PM PDT up reply actions
That’s all the sixers bench can do – score – all of em – they can score and as for ‘energy’ – that’s one of those nonsensical things people bring up
by jemagee on Jun 24, 2010 12:28 PM PDT up reply actions
You are the true definition of a nagative nancy aren’t you? We may not have a bench full of chris pauls but you are definitely not giving them any credit skill wise. And by energy, look at how rajon rondo beats teams, he gets after the ball and likes to push the tempo, thats the type of team we are and a player like lou fits that mold.
by TitansJonne on Jun 24, 2010 12:39 PM PDT up reply actions
If we can get another pick and grab a big man, while getting turner and dropping wither willie or elton, then i think we had a great draft. I think by having iggy at 3 and limiting his touches early in the clock, then he will really thrive. I get sick watching him carry the ball lol. I think its better for him to get the ball late with a chance for jrue or evan to set him up. Instead of him finding his own shots.
by TitansJonne on Jun 24, 2010 12:11 PM PDT up reply actions
Has anyone watched Craig Brackins? Scouting on his D is old and if it’s better than speights/thad, I’d consider dealing them for a pick to acquire him.
this is where mike, tanner and derek come in. but since derek and mike are in ny, tanner’s your man.
by Jordan Sams on Jun 24, 2010 12:32 PM PDT up reply actions
he’s a very good rebounder but defensively he’s not exactly a banger inside and his quickness is something that needs to get better – he’s a pretty good athlete so there’s room for growth on the defensive end especially with doug collins being the coach

Hitting the road for NY, hopefully get there in time to watch the draft live if not…thanks god for twitter. Have fun guys and hope to be w/ you guys when the selection is made..peace!
I’m convinced by all the persuasive lack of anything that’s been presented to tell me that louis williams is good
They should trade him to the pacers for the 10th pick, they want a point guard and as i understand it lou isn’t half bad
by jemagee on Jun 24, 2010 12:41 PM PDT reply actions
And of the 4 – jordan farmar is the best on defense.
I get it – defense doesn’t matter – it’s not important when building a winning franchise in the NBA – I never denied he could score – I said that’s all he could do – and by sending me that link – you demonstrated that his usefulness is limited to one side of the court…as are most of the sixers bench players.
And as for the ‘back up point guard’ thing – i like point guards who can handle the ball and not turn it over…oh look at that.
by jemagee on Jun 24, 2010 12:53 PM PDT up reply actions
On this point, I lean more toward John’s view. Lou wasn’t a point, so his turnover rate was masked by the fact that he spent a substantial amount of time with other facilitators(Iguodala, Jrue, AI).
That said, with Jrue/Dala/Turner on the roster, Lou’s playmaking deficiency can be masked similarly. My biggest concern is that Lou is not the catch&shoot guy I’d prefer to play opposite those guys. If Lou had Meeks J, then I’d be more willing to Collins coach him up on D, using the carrot-stick of PT as his hammer.
For that reason, I would definitely take Dragic over Lou. Dragic is a capable scorer who can pass much better
That said, with Jrue/Dala/Turner on the roster,
If those three are on the floor – lou isn’t :)
by jemagee on Jun 24, 2010 1:56 PM PDT up reply actions
Do you agree he isn't half bad?
Or do you think he’s completely useless?
by guitarmouse35 on Jun 24, 2010 12:52 PM PDT up reply actions
as long as you don’t care about defense…
which no one here (or the sixers it seems) cares about any more
Who cares if you can’t win without defense
by jemagee on Jun 24, 2010 12:54 PM PDT up reply actions
We know Lou can’t play D. I care a lot about defense (that’s why I love Jrue), but for at least one player coming off the bench, you need someone who can just score. That’s what Lou is.
I agree the rest of our bench is crap and Lou could very easily be replaced, but for now he’s the best scorer off the bench we have; I’m fine with that. We just need a lot more defensive-minded players.
by guitarmouse35 on Jun 24, 2010 1:05 PM PDT up reply actions
but for at least one player coming off the bench, you need someone who can just score. That’s what Lou is.
Ah but you see
Meeks
Green
Nocioni
Speights
Young
Pretty much all they can do is score as wel…if the sixers had one player off the bench who was ‘just offense’ wouldn’t be so bad I guess – but pretty much their ENTIRE bench is ‘just offense’ and they only had 3 quality defenders, one of whom they traded for more ‘offense but no defense’ guys.
You can’t have a roster full of guys who don’t play defense.
At this moment (pre turner)
You got Jrue
You got Iguodala (who many people would trade for a ham sandwich it seems)
And who else plays defense?
by jemagee on Jun 24, 2010 1:08 PM PDT up reply actions
Exactly
No one else.
We just need a lot more defensive-minded players.
Not gonna happen overnight, if ever with our kind of bench, but something’s gotta happen for us to contend.. for even the playoffs.
by guitarmouse35 on Jun 24, 2010 1:26 PM PDT up reply actions
I don’t care about ‘contending’ for the playoffs if that means losing in the first round every year, BFD…i want a team I believe can get to the playoffs and win 2 rounds…a team that people fear, a team with home court advantage AT LEAST in the first round, and this roster is just terribly far from that, and trading away sam puts them farther away (i mean they weren’t planning to keep him but i held out hope that he would sign for a comfortable deal and who wasn’t a locker room problem last year – didn’t EJ lose the entire team at some point?)
You got no big men who can defend or rebound really, you got no bench that can do much besides score, you got jrue andre and evan turner…and really that’s about it.
So – stop tinkering – and just blow the whole damn thing up…as far as i’m concerned, keep jrue and evan, let everyone else be expendable,, im not a believer in this roster (or GM) becoming a contender with small moves
by jemagee on Jun 24, 2010 1:32 PM PDT up reply actions
I think all he does is score and that he sucks defensively and is a poor ball handler, i think he’s not worth the contract he has and isn’t a vital part of any team that is building towards winning a championship.

i really don’t see who they can offer. Lou may have value but anyone else other than iggy or thad is prob gonna have to be packaged.
for a late first all they really need to offer is the money – andre won’t get moved for such little value

I don’t believe they will though – much like i never believed there ’we’d pay the luxury tax if….’ nonsense once the season ended, the sam trade reinforced that idea to me…saving 3 million this year but adding 7ish million next year (and then doing the whole dance again next off season)
Watch what happens with minneostas two picks in the low 20s and what they get moved for
by jemagee on Jun 24, 2010 1:04 PM PDT up reply actions
Why should they offer anyone – picks can basically be sold for cash – give minneosta a second round pick and 3 million dollars for one of their picks in the 20s.
That’s why this rumor is kind of silly to me – all comcast needs to do is pony up some cash.
