we will not be drafting a nintendo 64 with the 2nd overall pick.

Here in D.C. ...
… there’s already been speculation that Wall and Gilbert can’t co-exist and they’d be better off picking Turner.
I doubt they’ll do, but I’m sayin there’s a chance.

Will Turner be the superstar Collins needs? Let’s hope so. Everyone’s calling this a 2 player draft…and we just got a shot at it. I like Favors…but I like Turner more. I’d love Wall, but we have Holiday, and while Wall is better (or should be), I like the idea of Holiday + Turner. Big time.
You go BPA here
Can’t pass up Turner for Favors.
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.

funny thing is Jordan, I listened to you and did the simulator like 20 times and was gonna leave it up on Wall. I never got that but had the #2 pick come up 3 times
i would love turner.
but, do the sixers? who thinks they might pass on him and favors for cousins? or even pass on him for favors? i think turner is a much better bet than either of those two.
thoughts?
All we need now is for someone with common sense to run this draft. Hopefully it’ll be the new coach…or a GM that understands what’s what.

That is kind of the point though – if he sees through the nonsense and believes he can be a grown up (he’s very young) and drafts him – people are going to freak out – but if dileo gives him the stamp you have to give cousins a shot before freaking out :)

I know
I don’t watch too much college ball, so I’m not an expert on Wall or any of the others. But I know I like Holliday a lot. I went to Sac and Oakland to watch AI and I left the games remembering how good Holiday played.

Not liking a player doesn’t mean I’m an idiot. I just prefer other players, mostly ones who are team team team. Doug Collins will set him straight, though.

I think getting your own trainers and such is selfish, so yes. It’s all about attitude. Relax man, and enjoy a debate. And btw, that’s one big thing that SAS talked about on Mikey Miss this afternoon that really made me like Collins.
Although, I’d rather have Casey.
OH well see, I’m not upset, I’m enjoying myself , using SAS as a debate point indicates that it’s not worth listening to because he is not worth listening to (nor is any philadelphia sports radio show actually)…and I see where you’re coming from…i expect if you followed baseball you’d talk about how walks were for pussies

Andre Iguodala has neither a silly nor bloated contract
by jemagee on May 18, 2010 6:01 PM PDT up reply actions
When he carries a team on his back then he can get paid. He didn’t, and the Sixers bid against themselves. It was silly and bloated, and that with SD and EB backed them into a corner.

Please pull your head out of your ass
A. The sixers gave him the contract – did you expect him to say no

by jemagee on May 18, 2010 6:06 PM PDT up reply actions
No I don’t disagree with all of this. The Sixers are in trouble for it more than Iggy is. I just don’t see what it proved over than paying him for past effort. If anything, I think it made him a bit sloppy.
With the right coach I think his skill set would be better utilized. But he will NEVER be a top tier superstar. He just won’t. Not unless he’s hiding something no one has ever seen…
Asking him to be a primary scorer which isn’t in his skill set made him sloppy.
How about the fact that they were underpaying him for 5 years – that’s part of the reason.
He’s one of the top 30 players in the league – easy
by jemagee on May 18, 2010 6:10 PM PDT up reply actions 2 recs
Top 30’s don’t win. I think it’s what..7 teams that have won the last 15 championships or something like that? Some very, very, very small number. We need a superstar, and Iggy, as much as he tries, isn’t that. I think Turner may actually help him, to be honest. Just let him do his thing, so to speak.
It’s less than 7
and you are going to criticize andre iguodala for not being lebron james or kobe bryant or jordan?
THEN EVERYONE in the NBA is over paid
by jemagee on May 18, 2010 6:22 PM PDT up reply actions
They mostly are, but that’s more of an opinion than anything. I enjoy team basketball more than me basketball, and sadly the NBA is moving in the latter’s direction.
Yeah, it’s a selfish guy – haven’t you read – he’s all about him – he has his own trainer for gods sake (the sixers trainers history being what it is i’d get my own too)
WHat’s next – his own shooting coach in the off season? GOD FORBID someone like Sam do that.
by jemagee on May 18, 2010 6:36 PM PDT up reply actions
i think most people's problem, including mine is a lot of the fault of the organization also.
he is not a number 1, nor will he ever be – especially with his fantastic 3pt fg%, yet he still insists on shooting 7 threes a game, at times. the sixers; however, have continually marketed him as a superstar. like they say, “you don’t want to be the man that follows the man – you want to be the man after that.” so, he is screwed by the organization and by a.i. also, contract wise, i think he’s a little overpaid bc the sixers outbid themselves.

I think a lot of peoples problems is that they don’t understand how much money he does make compared to the perception (thanks idiot radio) that he’s paid ‘max money’ (he’s not)
He is one of the fifteen best all around players in the league – but the guys who are considered the best more often than not excel really well in one area that is easy to look at the stat sheet
The problem is that people still think points per game and rebound per game translate to good and bad

As an aside, em dashes have no spaces. I may not have the requisite Sixers knowledge, but the spaces between your dashes are making me go insane.
Potentially. But in order to walk the walk, you gotta look good doing it, you know?
Oh—by the way—that’s how it is done.
That is all. ;)
I look good doing what I do – you may not understand it – and your commentary on my dashes is well, kind of, ignored – it’s just my writing style that’ all – I ain’t no english major

wall
so if the Hornets, who already have CP3 and Collison, had the #1 pk and drafted Wall, that can only mean that Wall is a can’t miss, star-in-the-making and the rest of the draft is not that good.
by sf drift king on May 18, 2010 6:11 PM PDT up reply actions
John Wall has been the consensus #1 pick – by far – since the season stopped
by jemagee on May 18, 2010 6:13 PM PDT up reply actions
I know
but the only game I watched him play was vs S.Carolina and they lost. My boy Devan Downy lit them up.

That’s why most fans on blogs are horrible draft evaluators – they only see a few games on ESPN :)

For those of you who watched Wall + Turner play last yr
Who in the NBA does Wall’s game remind you of and the same for Turner? I’m not too familiar with either of them.
I think Wall = a bigger better passing version of Derrick Rose
Turner = John Salmons
by Shady is an Eagle! on May 18, 2010 6:07 PM PDT up reply actions
Salmons
which Salmons? the one who played with us or the one who plays with the Bucks? lol
by sf drift king on May 18, 2010 6:12 PM PDT up reply actions
The ceiling is Brandon Roy, but I think the most likely scenario is John Salmons in his current incarnation.

just talked to jrue and got in on a hefty interview with stefanski – big ed had a butt load of reporters around him
no not at all (when i was there at least)- as a matter of fact he looked incredibly giddy like a little kid on christmas

Jordan – nothing is impossible – depending on the offer maybe you trade the pick

Quick, somebody tell the Wizards that John Wall has no ACL’s, is a compulsive murderer, and is actually 43 years old.

he also carries guns in the locker room :3

Bummed Wolves fan here...
We’ve had our heart set on Turner for literally a year now. Any of you think there’s ANY trade that can be worked out? 4th pick, Kevin Love, and 16th pick for 2nd pick? I’m grasping at straws here.
If not, then congratulations and enjoy.
4th, love, 16 for 2nd and you have to take brand/dalembert and i would not be upset with that trade one bit. although i think the chances are lesss than zero.
Unfortunately we’re not the people that need convincing.

Thank god the people who need convincing don’t pay attention to fans making up trades

anyone realize that the 2nd round pick we traded to mil for jodie is essentially a cheap first round pick now in a deep draft? sorry to bring it up
Anybody realize that second round picks cost 50,000 dollars usually – and the draft is deep in ‘upside’ but not a lot of guarantees

ahhh then there is no cause for concern haha – only happiness around here!

I’m so happy about this, anyone worried about turners turnovers or do you think that was a product of him playing out of position?
by Tron79 on May 18, 2010 6:27 PM PDT via mobile reply actions
As an OSU fan..
You’ll guys get a good one in ET. I have a feeling he’ll quickly become a fan favorite in Philly. But don’t expect him to score too much his rookie year — the reason he dominated college hoops is because he adapted to the gamestyle and was literally light years ahead of everyone he played. It will take him some time to adapt to the NBA, so be patient with him.
most fans who post on this blog will be patient, as an idea for the NBA game and development are commonly understood.
Your comment is better suited for those who post on philly.com or philadunkia.

ESPN is moving away from team pages BTW. Not sure if it’s just NFL or spreading out. But that could mean GREAT things.
I basically on read ESPN chats every once in a while….

Every one presumes that Turner is a fait accompli – and while he is probably the pick – I don’t think it’s for sure yet. The sixers should definitely work out and interview Turner Favors and Cousins and Wall just in case that ernie fella is an idiot

“in case that ernie fella is an idiot”
It’s been done before. It would be interesting to research the Wizards’ draft history.
You only research the wizards draft history that ernie made – other picks are silly – like calling out tony dileo for the shaun bradley debacle
by jemagee on May 18, 2010 7:07 PM PDT up reply actions
Wait he didn’t draft Shawn Bradley?
And I didn’t research anything, I was just remembering once upon a time (mainly because all Coatesville is right now is a run down universe that circles Rip. But don’t take my word for it—visit!)

still capped out
still have cheap ownership
still have an apathetic fan base that won’t even sell out a first round playoff game
still have philadlephia weather and philadlephia media (which does have a horrible rap thanks to those radio douches)
No – I don’t think so

Is it just me
or wouldn’t Evan Turner be the better fit (over Wall) here anyway?
I can’t see a better scenario than getting the #2 pick! Perfect. With Jrue Holliday here already, I think Turner can come in right away and be the #2 or 3 guard.
Call me crazy, but Turner reminds me a lot of a Kobe Bryant or Tracy McGrady. Give him time to develop his outside shot and he can be “the man” here in Philly.
Love it.
Dude, I’m calling you out – you and me – on the playground 3’oclock high

I’m gonna be honest… I have no idea what this means. I’m assuming it’s a joke, but don’t know how to respond.
If you’re bustin’ my balls for joining for the first time just because of the #2 pick, then let me just say:
Yes, the #2 pick brought guys like me out of the woodwork. Call me a fraud. Call me a front-runner. Call me what you will, but let’s be honest… the Sixers were flat out unwatchable over the last couple years. I am an Eagles fan first and foremost, however I’ve been a 4-for-4 Philly fan since birth. I might not search Liberty Ballers or other blogs for Sixers info year round and I might not watch every Sixers game during the season, but I follow them enough to know what I’m talking about.
Having young guys like Holiday, Speights, Young, and the #2 pick (Evan Turner) finally brings some hope back to fans like me after a dismal season. So bust my balls if you want, but that is why I’m here. As someone said above, it’s not time to fight, it’s time to rejoice. And that’s why I’m here.
If you don’t want the less-than-hardcore Sixer fans like me around, then I apologize. I will be sure to go back to BGN and never come back. Haha
I’ts a joke from last night – no biggy :)
But you’re wrong though – John Wall is the ‘best’ fit on most every team that was in the lottery that doesn’t have an established all star upper echelon point guard (but New Orleans and Utah probably would have picked him first) – he’s the best fit in Minnesota too no matter how silly they want to be to try and save face on the rubio pick.
John Walla is the best player in this draft when you factor in off court problems (if you factor those out – cousins comes into dicussion) and that includes the upside as well. Turner is very good, but wall is better, and you can’t just look at numbers for their years in college and say anything about it – keep in mind that Wall is also younger than Turner so might grow more, change body type.
Fans who come back expecting Speights or Young to excite them are going to be disappointed mostly – Holiday had half a good season – but so did Young his rookie year
Just don’t say anything stupid or pretend you own 3 restaurants and we’ll be fine :)
plus i made obscure 80s movie (awesome one) reference that should have given away i was joking

Haha my bad
I saw comments above or on another thread about how guys are coming out of the woodwork solely because of the #2 pick. Being new to LB, I don’t know the personalities of the regulars here so trying to decipher “cyber-sarcasm” can be difficult. I apologize for basically commenting about nothing.
But anyways, I see your point about Wall over Turner. If the Sixers got the #1 pick, they would have to take Wall. That’s a given, but looking at their roster, I personally think Turner is not a bad “consolation prize.” I love Jrue Holiday. Think he’s going to be a very good player. The problem is, I don’t see Iggy or anybody else as a “go-to” guy. And that’s what the Sixers need to round out the team. And I think Turner can (and will) fill that role.
Wall and Holiday would definitely be a nice guard duo, but I think Holiday and Turner can be just as good and will complement each other very well.
I concede your point that Wall is a better prospect than Turner, but I’m very excited about the possibility of having a guy like Turner on the team.
No – getting the #2 pick is much better than the #6 pick – I’m not arguing with that – but let’s just say Washington does something monumentally stupid (not out of the realm of possibility, they gave gilbert a max contract (worse than brands folks) after missing a whole year) and drafts demarcus cousins #1.
At that point the sixers do back flips and they take John Wall #2 – that’s just the facts :)
People are so busy predicting who will and won’t work together, but you can’t do that until you see how they work together, if you know what i mean, everyone is putting players in boxes and saying ‘this is their box’ – without seeing if they can adjust their games to work together…I believe Iguodala can…most don’t (of course most hate him too)
Trading someone because they won’t work together before seeing if they work together is like picking a VP candidate because you need a woman instead of deciding if she’s actually qualified to do the job
by jemagee on May 19, 2010 10:31 AM PDT up reply actions
And for those ‘lottery is fixed’ people – did any ‘historic’ franchise with a new owner need the #1 pick MORE than the wizards after the past year they had?
by jemagee on May 19, 2010 7:27 AM PDT reply actions
You got a new owner in new jersey and have to build up hype for when they move to brooklyn (which is probably closer to 4 years than 2 honestly) – if you popped them out of the top 3 in what many see as a 3 player draft, mikhal might have taken his money and bodyguards an dhooker girlfriends and left
by jemagee on May 19, 2010 9:56 AM PDT up reply actions
Wizards yeah, but sixers, meh, i mean if ownership was more interestedd in the sixers, then i see it, but ownerships lack of interest in the sixers probably rubs stern the wrong way
