Pistons @ Sixers: The War to End All Wars
Detroit Pistons at Philadelphia 76ers, Apr 6, 2010 4:00 PM PDT
Needless to say, this is a big game. The past few days have been jarring, from Phillies opening day whooping of the Nationals to the Donovan McNabb trade to Dook beating Butler in one of the best National Championships in history. And the Sixers couldn't be any less exciting if Buzz Killington was starting at point.
Anyhow, thread it here for what stands to be the worst game of the season. Detroit's lost 11 in a row and holds a 3 game deficit lead on us. I want 40 minutes for Jason Smith. That should seal it. Let's rock.

Sixers are going to win
Can I just say
Butler was aa 5 seed
MSU was a 5 seed
If Duke MSU play the exact same game is MSU being talked about being all plucky and everything – no – they aren’t
BUTLER is not a feel good story, a cindarella, they are a solid program that has some very good college basketball talent.
Would all the folk who write about college basketball pull their heads out of their asses for the moment and pay attention to the team as opposed to the name of the school (or conference)
a top 20 team coming with in 2 points of beating the weakest #1 in a weak year in college basketball is not some sort of fiary tale

Not you – just in general the whole butler cindarella thing is a meme that is just driving me batty because it’s utter bullshit – they aren’t a cindarella – they didn’t come from nowhere
It’s actually INSULTING to what the team accomplished all year to call them this cindarella dream story – they were a very solid basketball team that played well all season

Absolutely. They were deep, they’re skilled, the only thing against them is the lack of size. They had every right to be in the game with Duke and what was the ultimate deciding factor was Kyle Singler being guarded by guys 6 inches or more smaller than him.

Just the lazy idiot media fitting the story to what they want it to be instead of reporting the story itself

don’t forget top 10 preseason team – i think the college writers around the world didn’t believe that whole “cindarella” thing in the first place but it attracts readers/viewers so they rolled with it

Look at the difference between Butler’s athletic budget and Duke’s and you’d understand why it’s a “Cinderella story”. It’s not about talent, it’s about resources.
Nonsense, utter and complete nonsense – each team gets to recruit the same amount of players – butler had talent -and was a top 10 team pre season
You buy the hype – not surprising of course

It’s not nonsense that Duke is a more established and well-known program than Butler. There’s a better chance of national recognition and success at Duke.
If we’re purely talking players on the team, I don’t think its Cinderella or however you want to spin it — but if we’re looking big picture, Duke has the recruiting advantage because they are Duke.

Duke spends $13.8 million dollars on their athetlic budget. Butler spends $1.7 mil. Duke has over 10x the resources to bring in the big players/coaches/what have you.
As I said, the story was about resources and not the talent that each team had on the floor. Duke has a huge recruiting advantage over a smaller team like Butler. The fact that Butler’s talent was about equal to that of Duke’s was fantastic story.
Think of it like the Yankees and the Rays. The Yankees’ payroll is over $160 million. The Rays’ is under $40 mil. Would anyone be surprised if Tampa wins the AL East? Maybe a little but not very. Would it be a great story like it was in 2008? Of course it would.
How much does the big 10, the pac 10, the big east spend on their athletic budgets, they don’t have any kind of academic restrictions (as much) than a school like Duke.
Duke recruits well, butler recruits well…making it a ‘cindarella’ story insults the butler palyers pure and simple

I got a feeling
Andre “dont call me Iggy” Iguodala will come thru with a really nice plantar fashy kinda 4 for 17 performance tonight.
the grass will be much greener with John Wall on the other side.
Yeah – cause he was awful the last couple games.
The grass will be much greener when people understand what they’re seeing

Jodie Meeks
Love the announcer! Jodiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Meeks.
I’m watching that game live, Galinarri is having his way with the C’s and they’re struggling shooting wise. The knicks have a shot folks.
The celtics are so NOT contenders thi year – it’s the magic cavs and hawks – the celtics are terrible – and yes danny ainge sold his soul for that title – but now his soul has come due
by jemagee on Apr 6, 2010 6:48 PM PDT up reply actions
The C’s will be swept out of the first round. Ainge made a mistake with Sheed and Nate is debatable (not to me but hey). If it wasn’t for Rondo and Perk this team would be screwed for the forseeable future.
According to Doc Rivers, Nate is out of the rotation already.
I don’t expect them to be swept – because they’re going to get the 3 seed unless the hawks can PASS them – but they won’t get past the second round if they get past the first
