Stefanski is Okay II

There are a few other moves Stefanski made that I consider making an impact in Stefanski's major moves. I'm talking about his signings and trades. We will see that he had a decent reason for making some of those moves...

Kyle Korver trade

The first move that Ed made was trading Korver to the Jazz for Gordan Giricek(released about 2 months later and a first round pick. According to Ed, this move served 3 purposes:1) it allowed Thadeus Young some playing time, 2) it allowed the Sixers to run more and, 3) it allowed more cap room for the eventual Brand signing. So, Korver was one of my favorite shooters that I have seen. But, Stefanski figured that the players that we had at the time would grow to be good three-point shooters (still waiting). Rodney Carneywas showing some good improvement but that off-season Ed-

Rodney Carney&Calvin Booth trade

-traded him along with Booth and a first round pick to the Timberwolvesfor a second round pick. This opened some more cap room for the Brand signing later that month. While I was not a big fan of the Korver trade, I was a OK with the Carney/Booth trade. The thing though was I was not in a hurry for grab Brand because of the draft pick of the previous month.

Marreese Speights

The Sixers were looking for a power forward who was young, fast and, could score. Somebody who could fit into the running style the Sixers were using at the time. Speights fit the bill rather nicely although it is now obvious that he is not a hard worker and does not play defense. He also is not the willing passer. Give him the ball and you either got ready for a rebound or you got back on defense. But, at least he is a decent scorer (in my opinion). I thought Speights could grow along with our other young players. Put him in the starting line-up instead of Reggie Evans(good grief!) or Young. I figured Ed got him so that if Brand did not sign, we would have somebody as plan B. I thought he was our future big man. Hey, this was before Speights' true colors showed up! Give me a break. I now realize that, unless he starts passing and defending, he will be considered a big version of Louis Williams(somewhat) who will be a bench player that provides a scoring punch. Okay I'm done talking about this. Moving on.

Jason Kapono trade

So, we get our new coach and besides not needing a true point guard, he also needs a shooter. Ed complied and gave up Evans to a Raptor team that needed his toughness for a shooter that they could live without, Kapono. Great! Here you are coach, we got one of the best career % three point shooters to play the game. Now you can put him in your system, right? No. Even though Ed tried to do the right thing by making sure his coach had all the supplies needed, the coach (by now you must realize i refuse to mention his name) barely played him and when he did, Kapono did not do well. Jason kept saying he is a rhythm shooter. That means he needs a certain amount of playing time and shots to get the best out of him. Late this season we finally witnessed a true shooter who finally got the playing time he needed to function.

Well there you have it. These minor moves were made to make bigger moves or for reaction of big moves made. I just want to say Ed made a good call in getting Jrue Holiday. That move, as it stands, is Stefanski's best move (although I'm kind of giving a lot of credit to Tony Delio). I have said it before and I'll say it again: Stefanski has only this summer to make some good decisions. Good intentions, bad results.

Yes, that makes since. Give the coach the supplies he needs to make it work.

I disagree whole heartedly

The best coaches get the best from their players – do not draft for a system – draft the best player avialable and hire a coach who isn’t a slave to a system so much that he blames players for his inability to truly COACH

Wait for the lottery. If you win a top 3 pick they might be seen as a more attractive place to coach. Win the top pick and it might really open up some options.
