A pretty good read. For the record, I'd be livid if the Sixers had the opportunity to draft Favors and opted for Cousins.

Interesting to look at the numbers, but I’m not sure I agree with his conclusion. He calls Cousins a more productive defensive player (while admitting Favors’ greater defensive potential), but he makes that claim based only on steals and blocks. I’d argue defensive productivity is about much more than that, particularly for a big.

I don’t believe the sixers would choose cousins over favors – but at 6 – one most definitely will be gone and one might not be

Having to chose really only comes into play if the Sixers move up to top 3.

I defer to you always in situations like thist, but I gotta think at 3 you take Turner or Favors, whomever hasn’t been picked yet, and cousins isn’t an option?

In my opinion Favors vs Cousins isn’t even a discussion (in Favors favor), and I’ve been saying so since before the conference tourney’s. Not everyone feels the same.

Well it would be awesomely helpful if about GM’s felt the same if the lottery goes to ‘form’ ;)

Yeah, I don’t see why there’s even a debate. Not only do I think Favors is a better prospect, but he fits the Sixers sooooo much better. Cousins in is the same mold of Brand and Speights.

Cousin’s inside game right now is worlds better than Brand, Speights or Favors. He’s such a dominant offensive player that I can’t pass him up at 3. I’ve watched Favors plenty this year and while I think he could turn into a solid player, I don’t buy into him as much as Derek does. Cousins to me is the better prospect and the only thing holding him back is his head. While there’s a shot that ends up holding him back, he’s the best post player I’ve seen out of college in a long time. And I’m okay with people disagreeing with me.

When I watched him I just saw someone who was so much bigger and stronger than his opponents. I wouldn’t call him the best post player I’ve seen in a while. I’m still skeptical that he can have the same success against bigger, stronger, more athletic players. How’d he do against other NBA big man prospects?

I think Favors skill set translates to the NBA better, and I’m curious what Cousins would’ve done with Favors supporting cast.

Plus, the supposed attitude problems are a huge turnoff for me. He’s more likely to succeed under some coaches than others, and we have no idea who’ll coach the Sixers next year. Cousins will probably be Speights part II if we bring in another bad coach.

Cousins is a better rebounder/post player already. Sure Cousins was much stronger, but he had decent footwork that showed potential to be pretty special. I think Iman Shumpert, Brian Oliver, and Mfon Udofia are better than people gave them credit and if Favors were that much of a stud he would’ve made them look solid. Looking at Favors, I don’t see a guy that could change a franchise around, but with Cousins I do. Having no spelling errors here has to be some kind of record on a saturday night.

What about favors/cousins makes you believe that one is more capable of turning a franchise around than the other? Or is this just a gut feeling.

Cousins athleticism, agility, footwork, and strength. Sure Favors is more athletic now, but he hasn’t put it together offensively like DeMarcus has. Usually I don’t like guys with mental red flags (maybe that’s not the best word) but from what I’ve seen from both freshmen last year, I like DMC’s chances to be a force inside and change the dynamic of a team. Obviously his defense isn’t where it needs to be, but I take him at 3 and get a coach to ride him into the ground pushing defense defense defense until he gets it.

Agree on him having supperior offensive potential compared to Favors. Not saying this will happen, but DMC could, due to his lack of maturity at this time, shut down when pushed by his coach. The image of him pouting on the bench and lashing out at Caliparri (sp) illustrates this fairly well. Both are great players with high celings, but if the margin of potential for the two is not collosal (Debatable) then we should take the higher charecter guy who so far, plays more consistant and nba level defense. Who knows, maybe Favors’ work ethic could passively motivate Speights, however unlikely this may be.
