Eddie Jordan Press Conference FIREThread

Tune in at 11:00 to watch management take a huge dump on Eddie's chest and throw him under the bus.  I'm watching CSN's package of awful moments from this season.  We still owe EJ 6 million dollars over the next two years.  Dei Lynam just hinted at Larry Brown's return to Philadelphia.

I think I'll have Na-na-na-na Na-na-na-na hey, hey, hey, Goodbye stuck in my head the rest of the day.  Also, send in your designs for the "I Survived the Eddie Jordan Era" shirts starting.....Now.

Firethread here.

So it wasn’t that long ago that the phillies were in the same position as the sixers are now?

They were in the basemen of attendance and one of the worst teams in the league with no future?

“wasn’t that long ago” is when again?

by jemagee on Apr 15, 2010 7:41 AM PDT reply actions

Weren’t they still around 500 with solid attendance?

by jemagee on Apr 15, 2010 7:43 AM PDT up reply actions

not when Matt Beech and Mike Grace were pitching. Fregosi’s last few years and Francona’s tenure. just awful.

3 years away from the playoffs

That’s what I expect if they do the rebuild correctly.

If they try another shortcut (like the way the Brand signing was a shortcut) then they will return to the playoffs sooner… but take even more years to become relevant.

So I wonder how important this next coach is. IMO, I just want someone solid for 3 years so that the revolving door stops.

by tk76 on Apr 15, 2010 7:49 AM PDT reply actions

So we’ve had this discussion before – if 3 yeears away – do you trade Iguodala while he’s at maximum value or hope that his career arc lasts longer than the average ‘athletic’ player?

by jemagee on Apr 15, 2010 7:50 AM PDT up reply actions

Probably, yes. Unless the draft gets you Favors or Johnson. Those guys would really fit with Iguodala, and he would help them develop.

http://www.phillyarena.com - Philly sports forum/blog

by tk76 on Apr 15, 2010 7:51 AM PDT up reply actions

Why Favors or Johnson? They’re about as different as you can get

by Michael Levin on Apr 15, 2010 7:54 AM PDT up reply actions

Favors will benefit from 2 guards to drive and spoon feed him with opps.

Also Favors/Sam/Iguodala/Jrue is a great defensive core that. Both these things gets Favors working towards his strengths. If the lose Iguodala they will be even more a mess, and Favors may start trying to be more of a freelance offensive player- which would hurt his development.

http://www.phillyarena.com - Philly sports forum/blog

by tk76 on Apr 15, 2010 7:56 AM PDT up reply actions

I agree, but I just thought it was interesting that you chose Favors and Johnson. Wes is much more similar to Aminu than he is to Favors.

by Michael Levin on Apr 15, 2010 7:57 AM PDT up reply actions

They don’t have to be similar to be good fits with the current personnel.

by Derek Bodner on Apr 15, 2010 8:09 AM PDT up reply actions

And why does Jonnson work?

by jemagee on Apr 15, 2010 7:58 AM PDT up reply actions

Jrue/Iguodala/Wes has a chance at being a tremendous backcourt on both ends of the court. At ages 20/22/26 no reason to blow that up. You might never find a better combination if you send away Iguodala.

http://www.phillyarena.com - Philly sports forum/blog

by tk76 on Apr 15, 2010 7:57 AM PDT up reply actions

Next years rookie is most likely going to be older than Jrue

That’s just weird

by jemagee on Apr 15, 2010 7:59 AM PDT up reply actions

Thad is younger than Speights. Lou is only a year older than Speights, 2 years older than Johnson.

Next year:
Jrue 20
Thad: 22
Speights: 23
Lou: 24
Iguodala: 26

I also think Stefanski is both incapable and unable to build for a long term future. Him being on the hot seat almost ensures he will have to try and take short cuts.

LB, at 71 and with his track record, would be the same way in terms of working towards a 45 win team instead of building a long term foundation based on a superstar.

http://www.phillyarena.com - Philly sports forum/blog

by tk76 on Apr 15, 2010 7:50 AM PDT up reply actions

LB doesn’t ‘rebuild’ he restocks, patches, then leaves

by jemagee on Apr 15, 2010 7:51 AM PDT up reply actions

Exactly.

http://www.phillyarena.com - Philly sports forum/blog

by tk76 on Apr 15, 2010 7:51 AM PDT up reply actions

I don’t think any ‘name’ coach is going to tolerate rebuilding, Avery, JVG, whomever…you can’t rebuild with a guy who expects to win (and is expected to win)

by jemagee on Apr 15, 2010 7:52 AM PDT up reply actions

That’s why I wonder about the relevance of this next coach.

I think GM and patience is much more important.

You don’t fix a fundamentally broken organization (7 coaches in 6 years, Brand/Miller mistakes) simply with a coaching change. Reeks of rearranging deck chairs on the titananic… except this ship has already sunk.
