I’m getting real excited about these standings and how close we are to the fourth spot! Is that wrong?
i’m sitting in my stat class right now. you should see this dude. he’s old and holds the dry-board eraser the opposite way in his hand. then proceeds to whip his mouth and forehead so he has marker all over his face. i was looking at my friend the other day saying, “how funny would it be if he licks his lips?”. Sure enough while i was looking at him my friend breaks out laughing because the teacher was licking and smacking his lips together. i lost it
Why does everyone at this blog take stats?
I shouldn’t talk; I took it last year.
You’re lucky my sister doesn’t still teach there….

Everyone from my high school wanted to go anywhere but there

Why at such a weird hour?
When I took it I had it 10-11AM, which is a much better time than 730 PM.
Except that he’s in Vegas so it won’t be 7:30 – but it’s still late in the day :)

I meant 530.
I know he’s in vegas. He said in two hours, so I added 2 hours to 630 (east coast time now) and then subtracted 3, except somehow 8-3 became 7.
This is the first night class I’ve taken in 3 years, but it was because this teacher was supposed to be the best, and I have a couple of friends taking it at the same time.
It’s basically the only class I go to because the other three I teach myself strictly from the book, and there’s no HW so I just go for review and test days.
it’s all about rejecting that null hypothesis

that’s what college is all about… not going to class
by Tanner Steidel on Mar 3, 2010 3:37 PM PST up reply actions
Uh oh.
If that’s the case, I think I’m missing out on college.
Then again, I don’t drink either, so maybe I was screwed to start with from that perspective.
I took it cause it was required for a biocehmistry major and it was 1991
However, even though i was quite good at math – i took stats for people who could barely do math so it wsa quite easy
Now i want to get a masters in applied statistics because I want a career change

Ideally
I want to do to basketball statistics what Bill James did to baseball – but without any rancor…
I want to build databases and analyze sports numbers….i just went to school 20 years too early

Yes, there are jobs in that field

Just two I happen to know about – sure it’s not basketball – but i have an excellent reference for an MLB job

Stuipd links didn’t work you need the info after the star
by jemagee on Mar 3, 2010 3:39 PM PST up reply actions
Those are both baseball, though...
and that’s a lot of qualifications they want.
Looks like a pretty intense job.
Hence the need for the masters in applied statistics :)
You have to understand, it may not seem like it – but i work my ass off at my job and i hate it – if i had a job i loved – you’d never see me posting :)
I’d prefer NBA but not as many ‘new school’ jobs as MLB, and I never looked, like I said, i just know about the MLB jobs
by jemagee on Mar 3, 2010 3:41 PM PST up reply actions
Fair enough.
I wouldn’t mess with you, John. I would imagine you’d work your patootie off if you had a job you liked.
My gf fears the day i have a job i like – really if i don’t work from home she might forget what i looked like

So this is the game I thought the wiz would win this week, I doubt the kings win on the second half of a back to back, same with the pacers (though i don’t think the pacers win all week), and I think the pistons probably lose to the knicks…
I’m wanting to ignore the clippers cause i’m trying to be ‘positive’ that the sixers can’t get good enough to ‘catch up’ to the clips again

Curry, Watson, Toliver, Morrow, Turiaf
Seriously – that’s the warriors starting five tonight.
I mean sure they’ve had injuries – but that team just sucks

Any team that doesn’t want wall – including the utah jazz or new orelans hornets is stuipd

i genuinely would feel bad for a player of turner’s caliber if he ended up in gs
by Tanner Steidel on Mar 3, 2010 3:40 PM PST up reply actions
then again he’d be making a lot more money than me so i would stop feeling bad for him immediately
by Tanner Steidel on Mar 3, 2010 3:41 PM PST up reply actions
If someone made equivalent money as you but got to play basketball for a living versus whatever you do – would you feel bad?
by jemagee on Mar 3, 2010 3:42 PM PST up reply actions
i’d feel bad that they’re foolish considering they play basketball for a living and make nothing – plus my knees would be in a lot better shape 10 years later
by Tanner Steidel on Mar 3, 2010 3:45 PM PST up reply actions
Hm
I mean, I love basketball, but I don’t know if I would do it for a living. Would it be terrible? No… but there are things I’d rather do.
And definitely I would feel bad for anyone making my kind of money (or the kind of money I will make) and had to play for the Warriors.
I'm also unavailable on Friday nights and Saturdays, though...
which precludes my employment in basically any entertainment or athletic field.
Nah, Shawn didn't skip Friday games, and he barely even skipped Yom Kippur.
Sandy Koufax is the man for my money.
alright well i’m skippin out of this boring ass class. probably not going to catch a lot of the game tonight i have to study for two tests i have friday. GOooooooooOOOO HAWKS!!!!!
Yeah, I'm not going to be able to watch any at all
Finals are next week, so that term-end work is piling up – papers and the like. You know how it is.
I can’t help but think that if Jamal Crawford wanted to be a top ten SG in this league, he could be. Shot selection and passing are basically all mental, and he’s got the ability to be a stud.
But he just hoists fadeaway three’s so he’s not.
Shot selection and passing are basically all mental,
So allen iverson realy just had mental issuess?

Driving in the rain in california sucks, but listening to the ESPN Radio of LA review the ‘career’ of Allen IVerson and hearing all the callers call up about how he ruined basketball really made it fun

lol

The hate in their heart some ignorant people have for him is nuts
He ruined the NBA
he brought the ‘thug’ mentality
cornrows and tattoos – evil – all his fault
hip hop in basketball – his fault
I wonder how people treated bill walton when he tried to be an individual
by jemagee on Mar 3, 2010 5:49 PM PST up reply actions
well, I’m not one to hate anyone. And as much as I enjoyed watching Iverson, I acknowledged what he was; a ballhog and a flawed player (well flawed team). He may show up in the highlight reel a couple times and light up the points column but he doesn’t bring us nearer to a championship. For what it’s worth, however, he did reinvigorate some fervor for basketball in this town, especially with the woes of the other Philly teams. He didn’t single-handedly introduce thug-mentality, cornrows, tattoos, etc. That is a cultural phenomena that can’t be centralized to a single person or player.

how many times have the sixers made the finals since 1990
Who was responsible for that?
by jemagee on Mar 3, 2010 6:29 PM PST up reply actions
No I understand, but that team was built to facilitate Iverson’s style of play. If Iverson was struggling then the whole team struggled. He didn’t necessarily make anyone better, but just masked everyone’s performance because he was putting up a lot of points per game. I enjoyed “The Answer” Era but I think it helped that the Eastern conference as a whole was weaker than the West. In fact, from ‘99-’03 the Spurs/Lakers owned the league, the golden age of “The Answer” era.

Oh I got the games backwards, wiz lose tonight win at home

effin loved it!!!! it was my last game ever as a student at comcast – kissed midcourt ai style at the end of the game – my mouth is dirty

i hate to say it but...
this team is a million times worse without elton brand. he may not have been able to compete well against the elite PF’s and C’s in the league, but he’s still by far the best front line player we have.
