Around SBN: MLB Trade Deadline: Who is available around MLB?

"Allen Iverson's return brought a temporary buzz to Philly, but that quickly faded. Then the 76ers were involved in talks at the trade deadline but didn't pull the trigger. Meanwhile, their young talent hasn't made significant strides this season. So the team we rated No. 19 and No. 21 in the first two editions of the Future Power Rankings seems adrift and now comes in at No. 22.

The Sixers need Jrue Holiday, Thaddeus Young, Marreese Speights and their next draft pick to come on strong. Otherwise, the franchise will apparently be mired in its current position as a late lottery team until Elton Brand's contract expires in 2013."

Two things

A. The sixers market – it’s big – it’s bigger than a memphis by a long shot so has more ‘appeal’ to free agents according to ESPN…(I think historicness probably has pull too but ESPN doesn’t look at that), so a team like memphis with a better roster right now doesn’t have the same appeal.

B. Draft – the sixers seemingly draft well, better than Memphis for instance (Thabeet), their history bodes well that the higher the pick the better the player and thus building a better team

C. Management is ranked 19th in the league – to me that’s too high

What about Thad?

Seems like he has gone backwards, do you think its the coach or the player?

by Tron79 on Mar 2, 2010 12:21 PM PST up reply actions

although you did not ask me: in my opinion Thad is not a great player, but with a better coach he would play certainly better. In any case going backwards (not more than one season is acceptable) could happen to young players
