LibertyBallers March Madness Trash-Talk page

I figured there should be some place here for us to marvel over all the upsets, complain about how all of our brackets are now busted, and talk trash if somehow they aren't, or if all of these 10-and-lower-seeds lose and thus salvage them. So here's a place to do that.

Every year I tell myself not to fill out a bracket. And every year I get cockslapped by it.

by Michael Levin on Mar 19, 2010 8:05 AM PDT reply actions

4.8 million enter ESPN’s contest
after day 1 56 have a perfect bracket left
after the first 11 games it was only like mid 500s

and villanova SHOULD have lost…refs were very helpful.

3) Good Show by Lehigh (yeah that’s my school, be jealous)

Yeah, cause kansas really put out their a game :)

Yeah, cause kansas really put out their a game :)

Yeah 45 points in the second half is not very good. sorry we played them better than East Tenn St played Kentucky, but we gave them a run for their money & we just didn’t have an answer for Aldrich, when we doubled him & stopped him someone else was left open. we don’t exactly have the recruiting Kansas does.

(yeah that’s my school, be jealous)

just a little joke dude, you don’t have to be “that guy”, just let me relish in the fact my team made it to the tournament for the like 3rd time ever & didn’t get blown out against the top-seeded team in the tournament.

on side note/rant: the 24 year old morningstar, why hasn’t he graduated yet?
& the kid reed, who didn’t enter inside the three point line on offense once, just camps out @ the three point line b/c he is one-dimensional & he was like 3-4 from 3. I hate kids like that, he had a easy lane to the hoop, but no he can only shoot threes. (i hate kids like that bc they always think they’re great)

You know what I love

People who say ‘learn how to take a joke’ when they can’t take a joke themselves.

so

you said it sarcastically as in lehigh sucks & kansas played bad. what am i missing?

you didn’t get the joke & ur joke was saying my 16th seed was bad, wow good one, there’s a shocker, a 1 seed being better than a 16 seed

I'm watching Cornell-Temple

probably the only game I’m going to watch in anything close to its entirety. Ivy-League pride vs. Philly pride – couldn’t pass it up.

by Saul on Mar 19, 2010 10:37 AM PDT reply actions

Even though Cornell is about 5 minutes from Ithaca, Philly pride wins easy for me. Although the Big Red have a heckuva team.

Also, Ithaca > Cornell — hooray artsy kids!

by Michael Levin on Mar 19, 2010 10:43 AM PDT up reply actions

I’m not surprised temple is choking – and i won’t be surprised if wisconsin chokes to wofford

Teams i root for don’t do well with expectations

by jemagee on Mar 19, 2010 11:08 AM PDT reply actions

A lot of people called this cornell upset.

with shooting like this… its tough to lose.

by Saul on Mar 19, 2010 11:15 AM PDT up reply actions

Last stat from CBS MMOD was that cornell was basically shooting their season average from the 3 point line (like 43.6 for the season and at 44 for the game) – So Cornell is just being cornell and temple is choking.

by jemagee on Mar 19, 2010 11:20 AM PDT up reply actions

they are shooting average (which is above average for anyone else haha) from three but i think their 2 point percentage is around 75% for the game – ridicuolous

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 19, 2010 11:25 AM PDT up reply actions

just checked – with 3 minutes left they were 18-24 inside the arc

Question for the local college-ball experts

Does Juan Fernandez have any shot at making it to the big leagues?

by Saul on Mar 19, 2010 11:17 AM PDT reply actions

Does europe count as the big leagues?

by jemagee on Mar 19, 2010 11:20 AM PDT up reply actions

eh... meant the NBA

Is he the next Ginobili or something?

by Saul on Mar 19, 2010 11:22 AM PDT up reply actions

He’s got great basketball IQ, tremendous passing ability and the ability to create for himself. A pretty good jump shot and a 6’4 wiry frame is also in his arsenal. What’s working against him is a lack of quickness and athleticism. I’d say he has a shot with a more consistent year next year. He and Lavoy could both be late first round picks.

by Michael Levin on Mar 19, 2010 11:39 AM PDT up reply actions

A. I wonder if athleticism being so important is why people think the NBA is getting ‘worse"
B. THe NBA needs to come up with a way to dteremine basketball IQ – you can’t get it from a kid one year in college (Yeah you thad) – some sort of basketball wunderlic

by jemagee on Mar 19, 2010 11:44 AM PDT up reply actions

I thought they had something similar to the wunderlic, but with a less cool name. Not positive though.

by Michael Levin on Mar 19, 2010 4:21 PM PDT up reply actions

Jeez

This college shot clock is SO LONG. I can never get over that.

by Saul on Mar 19, 2010 11:26 AM PDT reply actions

i always have hope they will change it 24 secs and that they will adopt the “no-charge circle” – never happens

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 19, 2010 11:27 AM PDT up reply actions

counting cornell – six double-digit seeds have already advanced to the second round

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 19, 2010 11:29 AM PDT reply actions

there needs to more trash-talking in here – the quota is not even close to being met

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 19, 2010 11:44 AM PDT reply actions

Better?

by jemagee on Mar 19, 2010 11:44 AM PDT up reply actions

you’re preachin to the choir when it comes to nova – i’ve felt they were overrated all-year – could also be my hatred for them though

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 19, 2010 11:46 AM PDT up reply actions

a lot of people are regretting how far they had nova going (anywhere past round 2 the way they played) me included

i got them losing to baylor – ekpe udoh is nasty

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 19, 2010 11:54 AM PDT up reply actions

I hate Vaillanova – you can’t root for nova if you are a fan of ANY big 5 school – they’re like an afterthough snotty main line school (yes i’m from the main line, but lower merion is not as snotty as the villanova area – i mean freakingRADNOR is near there)

Rooting for Villanova is like a sixers fan who roots for the cowboys.

I mean who in their right mind would do that?

by jemagee on Mar 19, 2010 11:56 AM PDT up reply actions

I’m a fan of all big 5 schools. And Drexel (Big 6). I’d rather see them win than some team from a city I don’t live in. Philly is Philly. If Temple goes against St Joes, yeah I hate the Hawks — but when they were making their Nelson-West-Jones run, I was rooting for them. And if we’re hating on Nova for its snottiness, should we be applauding Temple for its hoodness? I don’t get it. Philly’s Philly.

by Michael Levin on Mar 19, 2010 4:24 PM PDT up reply actions

Wasn’t drexel part of the big 5 before villanova? I mean it was a ‘city series’ type of thing and drexel still is in the city and villanova is still in the suburbs :)

Besides, drexel was the first school to require all incoming students to own a mac – which was a big deal back against the day.

Villanova is NOT Philly

There was a shirt when i was a kid that people need to start wearing again

I root for two teams

Temple

and who ever is playing villanova

not required to have a good bracket to talk trash (well unless you’re kevin garnett and you only talk when you’re winning and get pissed when someone talks in your ear after they beat you)

they ruined my dream of the ultimate trash-talking opportunity (extremely unlikely anyway cuz they still would have needed to beat kansas) with a sweet sixteen unlv/maryland match-up

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 19, 2010 12:05 PM PDT up reply actions

Maryland was going to ruing that dream anyway

My top games of interest:

UNI/Kansas (Panthers are underrated)
Ohio/Tennessee (I go to Ohio, so yeah)
BYU/Kansas St. (why did it take 2 OTs to beat Florida?)

I would think that kansas losing to cornell and butler making the final four would do a job on most brackets all by itself.

Here’s hoping duke loses

by jemagee on Apr 4, 2010 3:16 PM PDT up reply actions

This years final four over reaction?

At the beginning of this season, Gordon Hayward was considered to be one of the best players Butler had ever signed. He was, in no way, shape, or form, considered an NBA lottery pick.
Funny what a Final Four berth — and a chance to win the NCAA championship — will do for a guy’s prospects. ESPN.com’s Andy Katz has spoken with an NBA personnel director who believes that the sophomore forward would be a lottery pick if he comes out following the team’s games in Lucas Oil Stadium.
Hayward is averaging 16.6 ppg in the NCAA tournament, and 6.6 rpg. He doesn’t take many three-pointers, but the ones he has taken are becoming more accurate each time he takes the floor. Hayward missed all six attempts against UTEP, but made 3 of 8 to send the Bulldogs to the championship game. Scouts had a chance to see him play against top competition and come out ahead during the Bulldogs’ fairy-tale romp to the first Monday of April. According to ESPN’s Chad Ford, scouts are definitely noticing; he tweeted that the best NBA prospect in the Final Four is Hayward.
If Hayward can put the Bulldogs on his back and win against Duke, the lottery is no pipe dream.

by jemagee on Apr 4, 2010 4:05 PM PDT reply actions

I pity a team that takes him in the first round or even earlier than mid 2nd round, He has perenial bench warmer written all over him.

At least he’ll scare alot of people with his tough guy looks …

Well when you go back and read what berri wrote it’s just awesome to see it ‘shown’ so fast :)

by jemagee on Apr 4, 2010 6:08 PM PDT up reply actions

I just love trying to figure out the reasoning behind picking a guy whos played decently in 3-4 games on a big stage to be a lottery pick, when he wasnt even close coming into it. :) hilarious.

But illustrates Berri’s research (and my ranting) about how six games can over value a guy way too much – so people judging whether or not to draft a guy because they saw him in the tournament for a game or two are just silly :)

Didn’t say he will be picked at 25. I said he’s a solid pick at 25, meaning that’s where I value him.
