Sixers get blown out by Bobcats

Box Score

Rufus on Fire

  • Instead of looking at the 99 problems, let's look at the positives.
  • DB joined LB.
  • TAFKAMB lost his Twitginity.
  • Jodie Meeks scored a Sixers career-high, 5 points. Dude has a beautiful-looking shot, and also showed some solid effort on defense. Granted, it was 5 minutes of trash time. The Jodiac Killer even attempted to box out -- which is more than I can say for some Sixers. Hall of Fame?
  • Jrue Holiday showed good signs again. His shot isn't as pretty as The Meekster's, but it's wetter than a dog's nose (41% now). Holiday Line: 13 points (5-11, 2-4 3P, 1-2 FT), 8 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 5 turnovers in 38 minutes.
  • Thad had a nice move off the dribble where he did a quick crossover and drilled the shot from about 18. He also had a filthy slam, (dunk occurs at the 40 second mark) and 3 blocks.
  • There's a chance this was Eddie Jordan's last game -- if you believe the rumor that he's gone as soon as he's "lost the team". I'll let you decide if this is a good thing or not. Would you rather have 18 more games of Jordan or no chance at a top 5 pick? If this were an alternate universe like in LOST, we could have both.
  • John successfully predicted the end of White Collar's first season.
  • The Kings killed the Raptors which helps us in the Lottery Standings!
Lottery Team Record GB
10 Clippers 25-40 3.5
9 Sixers 23-41 2
8 Wizards 21-40 1.5
7 Knicks 22-42 1
6 Pistons 22-42 1
5 Kings 22-43 0.5
4 Pacers 21-43 --

Twitginity is a horrible word.

1. Cousins, Favors, Aminu, Johnson, Henry (still thinking Hassan doesn’t come out, and I know I’m much higher than Xavier than everybody else)
2. Jrue Holiday
3. Yes, although he was quite pleasant over the phone, that doesn’t translate into good GM-ness.
4. Richard Nixon
5. A jar of almonds.

by Michael Levin on Mar 10, 2010 10:22 PM PST reply actions

I’ve talked to several scouts who are fairly confident Hassan will stay in. I’ll try to ask around a bit more.

by Derek Bodner on Mar 11, 2010 4:27 AM PST up reply actions

Good stuff. I’ve been going basically on instinct since my only source are my genitalia. Hey — that’s two!

by Michael Levin on Mar 11, 2010 8:56 AM PST up reply actions

1) Cousins, Aminu, Garcia (the guy from Seattle Univ. – he’s drawing 10.4 fouls per 40 mins!), Patterson, Henry (I’m high on him too)

2) Lou Williams

3) I blame him for not drafting Maynor/Lawson, but once EJ is gone, I think Ed can salvage his tenure as a good one

by chillicothe20 on Mar 10, 2010 10:51 PM PST reply actions

Hey I admire Garcia’s ridiculous upside (shutupscott) as much as the next guy obsessed with obscure college basketball, but he’s so far from a top 5 talent its laughable. hahaha. see? I’m laughing. He comes off the bench most games from Seattle. Not exactly screaming lotto pick for me.

by Michael Levin on Mar 10, 2010 10:55 PM PST up reply actions

He could be a diamond in the rough. Maybe not. Remember Scottie Pippen went to Central Arkansas…

by chillicothe20 on Mar 10, 2010 10:59 PM PST up reply actions

I’m not saying players from lesser known colleges can’t be good. But if we’re going to that extent, I’ll take Michael Deloach, Dior Lowhorn, and Junior Bernal. I just like naming guys.

by Michael Levin on Mar 11, 2010 8:55 AM PST up reply actions

Deloach is a very good player

by chillicothe20 on Mar 11, 2010 2:09 PM PST up reply actions

Talk about the minority LOL.

Your favorite player is Lou and you want Lawson/Maynor instead of Jrue.

by Jordan Sams on Mar 11, 2010 10:40 AM PST up reply actions

In the long run Jrue might be better, but on draft day it seemed Ed went against the fans’ consensus wants.

by chillicothe20 on Mar 11, 2010 2:10 PM PST up reply actions

I don’t think that, at all. I think fan reaction after the draft was a near unanimous success. I think Jrue just wasn’t talked about all that much pre-draft because it was a foregone conclusion he’d be a top 10-12 pick.

by Derek Bodner on Mar 11, 2010 2:19 PM PST up reply actions

1. Don’t do college. I’ll defer to TAFKAMB. Whatever he says.
2. I like Jrue, I really do. But I still like Andre, probably more. Especially since he gets the NBA game, even if he takes way too many jumpers.
3. I don’t feel all that strongly about Stefanski. Sure, he’s had some dud moves, but most were highly defensible at the time. I think he’s been the victim of a couple of bad decisions but a lot of bad luck.

by Saul on Mar 11, 2010 12:40 AM PST reply actions

Wow, only 18 games left in the season? Time sure flies when EJ is coaching driving your team full speed into an utility pole

by AdamT on Mar 11, 2010 2:29 AM PST reply actions

1) Don’t know about the draft
2) Iguodala
3) Fire Stefanski!!!

by itay n. on Mar 11, 2010 2:41 AM PST reply actions

1. Whomever DiLeo chooses.
2. Our most recent rookie. Was Thad, then Speights, now Jrue. Hopefully next year Wall:)
3. Yes. Don’t think he is clueless. But has the reverse Midas touch and too much baggage to get the job done.
4. Frost (walked past his house in Chelsea yesterday on Cheyne Walk.)
5. Cashews.

1. Favors, Cousins, Whiteside (I’ve bought into the hype), then I don’t know. I guess Aminu and Patrick Patterson.
2. Iguodala almost by default, though the only player I hate is Bill Green.
3. Yes. I think he completely botched up the offseason by not bringing back Andre Miller and hiring Eddie Jordan. He’d have to make a really big move for me to gain any faith in him again.

by yosoysean on Mar 11, 2010 4:18 AM PST reply actions

1) Favors, Cousins, Johnson, Whiteside, Monroe (with a close 6th to Henry)
2) Holiday. Followed by Iguodala, with Thad a distant 3rd (I’m still one of the few Thad hold-outs).
3) I’m willing to give him a chance to correct his mess, but I wouldn’t be upset if he got replaced.

BTW, I’ve watched about 4 games of Whiteside’s, and have about 10 more games of his on tape that I’ll try to watch in the coming week or two. I’ll give a rundown then, since Marshall’s not exactly on ESPN every night.

by Derek Bodner on Mar 11, 2010 4:32 AM PST reply actions

i haven’t seen whiteside play at all – any chance you can share video with under privileged folk? :)

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 11, 2010 5:30 AM PST up reply actions

I’m sure there will be a good stream of their game against Tulsa tonight.

I watched his game against UTEP last week. He was getting outmuscled by Derrick Caracter but that probably had something to do with Caracter being (listed at) 275 pounds. He still looked pretty impressive on the boards. He also definitely looked like a project.

by yosoysean on Mar 11, 2010 6:17 AM PST up reply actions

I love love love love UTEP this season, saw them in November and picked them to be a sleeper. Unfortunately only my dad knows that so I’m shitouttaluck.

And Whiteside does what you’d think a very raw but supremely talented 7’0 freshman that gets trip-dubs with blocks in his sleep would do. That sentence was a whole bag of awful.

by Michael Levin on Mar 11, 2010 8:59 AM PST up reply actions

One thing I like about him, a lot of times those long, athletic shot blockers tend to be bad laterally, and get picked apart on the pick and roll. Whiteside’s very good at defending the pick and roll.

His jumpshot is also surprisingly effective. I say surprisingly because I don’t particularly like his release (his elbows tend to flair out, and I question whether he’ll be consistent with it), but the results right now are much better than I would have expected.

Decent ability to finish, including a hook, but very turnover prone in the post (and really anywhere in general) and brings the ball down a lot more than he should. His post moves are a definite work in progress.

by Derek Bodner on Mar 11, 2010 10:02 AM PST up reply actions

Marshall nearly pulled off the upset against UTEP too. The Herd really had no answer for Randy Culpepper though. He absolutely torched them.

by yosoysean on Mar 11, 2010 10:34 AM PST up reply actions

1) Cousins, Favors, Wes J, X (one upped ya mikey b), Gregory “Don’t Call Me Earl” Monroe
2) Jay-rue
3) Goodbye Edward

I guess 4 and 5 were deleted before i got here but based on mike bourn’s response i’m guessing 4 was your favorite toolbag and 5 was what food turns you on the most

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 11, 2010 5:08 AM PST reply actions

Tanner you are the iced to my coffee.

And 4 and 5 were purely speculative as to what Jordan could have asked.

by Michael Levin on Mar 11, 2010 9:00 AM PST up reply actions

jordan i can tell you want to you start watching LOST – just let it happen, don’t fight it

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 11, 2010 5:38 AM PST reply actions

who and when do the wiz play?

With a guaranteed loss to Cleveland friday, we might be able to pass tehm by the end of the week!

1. Wes J, Favors, Cousins, Whiteside (if he comes out – does any one know what the prbability is on that?)
2. Jrue (noticed he’s got more of a killer instinct than Iggy already and he’s 19)
3. I don’t have a problem with ES. Most of his decisions looked good on paper. I wouldn’t be heart broken if he was fired though.

KILLER INSTINCT ALERT! SOMEBODY SLIME HIM!

we have slime in the budget right?

by Michael Levin on Mar 11, 2010 9:01 AM PST up reply actions

get summer sanders on the line – maybe she’ll hook us up

by Tanner Steidel on Mar 11, 2010 10:27 AM PST up reply actions

The Wiz play the Pistons Friday. Win/Win for us!

by Jordan Sams on Mar 11, 2010 9:49 AM PST up reply actions

I’m not sure how going into the season with Lou as the starting PG (no offense to him but he’s not a PG) and hiring a coach who flamed out at his last job looked good at any point.

The Brand signing I’ll give him a pass for. I also think Iggy and Lou’s re-signings were fine. This past offseason was dreadful though.

by yosoysean on Mar 11, 2010 10:37 AM PST up reply actions

I think the biggest reason for the jordan hiring,

was the fact that washington was paying part of, if not all of his salary for this year. Stefanski had nothing to lose, besides his dignity.

by mopey on Mar 11, 2010 1:43 PM PST up reply actions

then what’s up with the other 3 years?

by Michael Levin on Mar 11, 2010 1:52 PM PST up reply actions

by Michael Levin on Mar 11, 2010 11:30 AM PST up reply actions

after a scare, Kansas will hold on and secure a number 1 seed for good. Especially in light of the Cuse loss.
