Around SBN: Missouri Survives Scare, Louisville And Marquette Roll

Who you got?

I saw this post on mavsmoneyball and I am going around sbnation to see who sbnation thinks is better.

http://www.mavsmoneyball.com/2010/2/20/1319763/who-you-got

"We have all heard this question before LeBron or Kobe. Obviously both are great and I think the general public is split on who is better, similar to Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. But we are not the general public, since we know more about the NBA. I want to see which side the hard core fans are on. Which hall of fame player do you want on your team, King James or The Black Mamba?"

also, isn’t a little soon to be calling lebron a hall of famer? If his career continues on its current path then he will be one but I think it’s still too soon to be saying that.

with all due respect to opinions…

At the age of 24/25, he is in the early stages of his prime. He could regress to Reggie Evans-style of play and still be a hall of famer.

by jefu on Feb 21, 2010 8:41 PM PST up reply actions

Dude just turned 25....

…and he’s the Cavs’ all time leading scorer, almost a lock for a 2nd straight MVP, and is lightyears ahead of where Kobe was at that age. LeBron could probably pull a Kobe in an Eagle, CO hotel room a few different times, never play another game in his life, and still be a lock for first-ballet induction into the Hall of Fame.

As far as “who would you rather have on your team”, didn’t someone do a league wide survey of NBA players asking them this very question within the past year or so? I’m pretty sure LeBron won overwhelmingly at that point and he has made huge strides since then.

Kobe

He is the best player of the last 5+ years. He is probably the best player from my lifetime (so far – I’m 22).

Championships, people. He’s got ’em.

If I was starting a team today, I’d take Kobe and hope to win a few championships before he’s done. Sure, LJ is younger, but Kobe has a championship résumé. Plus, LeBron is all flair and no rings, while Kobe is less of a show-off, despite having plenty worth showing off about.

Championships, people. He’s got ’em.

So does Robert Horry and Steve Kerr

This is the weakest part of any discussion between Kobe and Lebron

How many ships did the lakers win after shaq left before Gasol arrived

So is it really Kobe, or was it Shaq and Gasol?

It takes more than one player to win a championship.

Lebron James has carried mediocre teams, repeatedly deep into the playoffs, Allen Iverson is considered a god by many for doing it just once

by jemagee on Feb 22, 2010 7:05 AM PST up reply actions

exactly

who’s the best player Lebron’s been paired with in his career? Mo Williams?
Even look how far the Lakers sank after Shaq was traded 34-48 and missed the playoffs. Lebron’s worst season? 35-47…his rookie season.

by mopey on Feb 22, 2010 12:18 PM PST up reply actions

You can downplay Mo Williams, and most people would, but his offensive skills are a good fit alongside Lebron.

And really now, when comparing Kobe and Lebron, you can’t compare them using the teams they’ve played on. By doing that, you are also negating the fact that they play in separate conferences.

by jefu on Feb 22, 2010 4:58 PM PST up reply actions

Cool, he was rings. He also has one of the best teams around him. The Lakers are the only team in my mind who have two true stars on their team right now.

by YoSixers on Feb 22, 2010 1:32 PM PST up reply actions

we should just build the whole franchise around kapono, i mean he’s a 3 point specialist who goes 0-4 from beyond the arc nightly, and provides no positives to this team at all

Best player from your lifetime? Apparently you don’t remember the ages 5-18?

Jordan did have all of his major accomplishments during your lifetime……And Shaq pretty much dominated EVERYONE inside from 1992-2005.

“Kobe is less of a show-off”???? I feel dirty just by responding to your ignorance

I guess you don’t remember that of Kobe’s rings, he was the principal actor in getting only ONE of those?

Apparently you’ve picked up NBA basketball in the past couple years and are trying to sound knowledgable by repeating what the talking heads on ESPN say daily.

You’re officially the Yinka Dare of this blog.

tim duncan has 4 players and is the most dominant PF of all time. He’s had a better career than Kobe and was more vital and did it with different teams each time. Kobe is a shooter who happened to end up with Shaq. What if you take a 24 year old Lebron and put him with Shaq when he was a Laker? THEY WOULD HAVE WON 8 RINGS IN A ROW.

Tim Duncan is not the most dominant pf of all time

He’s the most dominant pf of the modern era

but that’s because people don’t bother learning their history

by jemagee on Mar 5, 2010 2:03 PM PST up reply actions

ok the Big O. do you consider him a SF? Who else? I’ll probably agree with you he was just the first name to came to mind.

by packimop on Mar 5, 2010 3:56 PM PST up reply actions

So matter-of-fact that Duncan isn't most dom PF of all....

Who is then?

…..cause after continuing his brilliant, consistent (albeit BORING) style of play for such an extended time, it’s become pretty generally accepted that Duncan is, in fact, the most dominant power forward of all time. If not, who is? Karl Malone? Elvin Hayes? KG?

You could say that any of those guys had higher “highs” than Duncan, but not the complete body of work or consistency throughout their careers that TD has had.

Duncan’s probably not the most dominant, but he’s the best PF of all-time, hands down.

As a fan I would much rather watch LeBron… much more exciting and fun to watch in my opinion.

I don’t even think it’s close — LeBron.
