We Are Not There Yet

This post does not have statistics so if you like them, stop reading. Also, this is probably a negative look at the team so if you're a fan in denial , stop reading. I'm going to basically tell you why I'm not swayed by the strong play of a few players. the Sixers have started to pick up the wins like I knew they would but don't get carried away.

The team is not ready yet to win. So much talk about Jodie Meeks and Spencer Hawes in the starting five and Thaddeus Young and Lou Williams off the bench. I'm enjoying to games this season. I really am. The team has been in each game this season except against the Spurs. More competitive than I thought they would be. But let's be real here: How many of these players on this team will be here when the Sixers win it all? I'm convinced that Meeks is the real deal in terms of shooting. 6 three pointers in a quarter? Are you kidding me? Nice. But I don't see him as a starter for a championship winning team ever. Spencer Hawes I really was almost going to give up on him but I'm glad I didn't. He's been great for the team but unless he has75% of Dalembert defense ability, Sixers can't win with him.

Thad Young seems to have had a resurgence in his career. To me, he's more aggressive than Igoudala. I wish Igoudala would use his quickness to his advantage like Young. Always attacking the rim. Lou Williams is Lou Williams. As I said in my season preview, he was going to be the team's sixth-man winner. I am disappointed with Evan Turner. His jumper makes me cry but I'm tired of him passing the ball after making a go-to-the-rim move. Take the risk buddy. Jrue Holiday makes his mistakes in turnovers and I don't mind because the team should not be worried about winning. They should be just learning the game at this point. I'm glad Kapono fell out the rotation.

The Sixers have some nice pieces ok? I love the players but I still think that some of the players are only playing well because (and this is the main point of this post) they're on a team that sucks. The stats they have are inflated a bit. Some of these players are on the team so that the 76ers can even exist! I'm not willing to give up on Turner yet. Holiday is a smart player and when he gets old, he may end up being a Derek Fisher type player. Holiday won't be a super or all star but he'll be good enough to be a starter for any team. With that being said, right now on the Sixers, the only players that the team looks like they will heavily invest thier future in are Jrue Holiday and Even Turner. They might keep Hawes if he continues to play well this season and next. In fact, he may be the answer at Center.

The team still needs a power forward and small forward. Igoudala will have to be traded and I actually will not explain why because this post is about why the Sixers are not ready for winning. Elton Brand has made me proud but we all know he's not going to be here after his contract is over. I am just about done with Spieghts and I saw Brackins only game this season and I want to see more of him before I say anything about him. Tony Battie has been probably the best post defender on the team and I wouldn't mind having him as the veteran on the team to provide guidance.

Is the draft going to be the team's answer? Or can they float around the middle of the league and when heavy contracts are over they can make some kind of move to put them over the top? We'll see. I'm loving the play of the team now but I know this team isn't going to do anything anytime soon.
