NBA Draft '11: College Prospect Thread 12/18

This is something that Jordan started last week, causing him to build a shrine dedicated to Morehead State forward Kenneth Faried (very similar to this).

College basketball has been one of my greatest loves since the early 2000 Maryland Terrapin squads containing the likes of Steve Blake, Chris Wilcox, Lonny Baxter, Byron Mouton, Drew Nicholas and some guy named Juan Dixon. I know for a fact that Mike shares this passion with me and could probably name every single Division 1 player off the top of his head. Derek is right along with us, although he doesn't count because he works for Draft Express (sellout!). We're still working on Jordan.

There are some excellent games on today with tons of NBA talent in the mix. As I'm typing this, Philadelphia native Marcus Morris is rock chalkin' his way to a possible lottery selection against USC on ESPN. Morris' hotshot freshman teammate Josh Selby is making his debut in this one (projected lottery pick as well).

Hit the jump for a list of games and prospects (in no particular order) you can check out today. If I missed anyone, post his name in the comments as someone to watch.

Star-divide

South Carolina at THE Ohio State University - 2:00 PM, CBS (Jared Sullinger, Will Buford, David Lighty)

Texas at North Carolina - 4:00 PM, CBS (Harrison Barnes, John Henson, Tyler Zeller, Dexter Strickland, Jordan Hamilton, Tristan Thompson, J'Covan Brown)

Gonzaga at Baylor - 4:30 PM, ESPN2 (Perry Jones, LaceDarius Dunn, Quincy Acy, Elias Harris)

Prairie View A&M at Michigan State - 6:30 PM, Big Ten Network (Kalin Lucas, Durrell Summers, Keith Appling, Draymond Green)

Mississippi Valley State at Kentucky - 8:00 PM, ESPN3 (Terrance Jones, Brandon Knight)

Indiana State at Purdue - 4:00 PM, Big Ten Network (Larry Bird, JaJuan Johnson, E'Twaun Moore)

Iona at Syracuse - 7:00 PM, ESPN3 (Fab Melo [may not play], Kris Joseph, Rick Jackson, Scoop Jardine)

Florida State at Loyala Marymount - 11:00 PM, ESPNU (Chris Singleton)

Illinois at Illinois-Chicago - 2:00 PM, Big Ten Network (Demetri McCarney)

Once again, If I missed any games going on today or any prospects you'd like others to know about and watch, post it in the comments.

Hooray for Saturday's filled with College Basketball (o yea, the Sixers play tonight too)!

If you guys can only watch one game, make it UNC-Texas. My boys John Henson and Jordan Hamilton + Harrison Barnes.

Selby just hit a huge shot, love the kid’s range his shot is pretty too

Don’t think he’d fit here. He’s a combination of good Lou and good Meeks. Maybe if Lou was traded, but even then one undersized shooting guard is enough for me.

agreed that his shot is pretty – his defense looked pretty good too

like jordan, i don’t see him working with this team – still not sold on his nba potential either – i’d like to see him develop some point guard skills since he’s vertically challenged

After last night I decided I just want a top 5 pick. If we can do that then we can be good for the playoffs next year. Hopefully we get either Barnes, Terrance Jones, Perry Jones, or Sullinger if we can land a top 5 pick

If it were to happen would you be about playoffs or ping pong balls next year?

if they got a top 5 pick this year? i’d still be about ping pong balls. they have to trade iguodala.

I can't believe I forgot

BYU at UCLA – 5:30 PM, FSN with Jimmer Fredette (I guarded him in a summer tournament – he dropped 35 on me), Malcolm Lee, Tyler Honeycutt, and Josh Smith

Yea baby. His team was in SportsFest in Allentown the summer before my senior year. We lost. He won MVP of the tournament

Sullinger

With 18/10 at the half. Disclaimer, SC doesn’t have inside defenders 1/4 of the caliber he’ll see in the NBA. Nice form on his post moves but they are too slow to be effective on the next level. I still like him, but nowhere near the amount some do.

Thoughts on magic trade that is going down.

Magic gets: Hedo Turkoglu, J-Rich, Earl Clark.
Pheonix gets: Vince Carter, Marcin Gortat, Mikael Pietrus and 2011 first rounder.

Also, they’re supposedly pursuing a swap of Rashard Lewis for Gilbert Arernas straight up.

thought it was very sneaky to get earl clark in that deal although I’m betting Phoenix had no plans for him in the future

ballsy trade for Orlando but they see they aren’t winning a ship with the squad they had so it was time to make a drastic change

Agree. They weren’t winning w/ the guys they had. I admire Smith for shaking things up.

by Jordan Sams on Dec 18, 2010 12:37 PM PST up reply actions

Either of you think Gilbert, assuming he is traded, is able to come in and contribute in a positive way, including not being a locker room distraction? Not sure if I like that trade, plus leaves the Magic with no backup big. If there is any way at all for the Magic to get Blatche (very unlikely) they have to do it.

Heard Gilbert for shard is straight up and pretty much complete. I don’t think Gil will be a distraction there cuz they will be competing. He needed a change in scenery.

IF Arenas can keep his nose clean, which to his credit he’s done so far, he will be a boost. Should be interesting to see how tonights game pans out now without pietrus vince gortat and shard.

not implying anything either way, but so far he looks like Evan out there. Passive.
