TBJ - Iguodala Drive and Garnett Game Winner
In case you missed it last night, here is great quality video of the last two plays of the game from The Basketball Jones. It hurts to watch, but you can be sure Collins is making the kids watch it again and again. That's how you get better.
The biggest problem I have with this play isn't the switch by Thad and Jrue, it's the fact that there is no one guarding the basket. Sure, the Celtics spacing is always amazing, but with 6 seconds in the game, someone has to be close to the basket. If you watch, no Sixer has both feet in the blue part of the paint until Lou leaves Nate Robinson as Garnett puts it in. Having a capable big man defender would help, but a lot of this is on Collins.

I didn’t get why he was bringing in Lou at the end of of the half for defensive purposes. I think at the end of the game he took out Brand for Lou. If we had Brand back there maybe that play doesn’t happen? I heard him say at the end of the first half that he wanted Lou on Rondo so that’s probably why he got in but Jrue wasn’t having that much of a problem with him.
Jrue had just picked up his second foul on a stupid “foul to give” situation, a decision which gave Jrue his second foul (which would become an issue in the third quarter when Jrue picked up his predictable young player fouls), and which erased away the Sixers last offensive possession they had previously rushed for to get the 2-for-1.

I don't blame Collins on the last play.
He brought Louin because he’s the only one fast enough to keep up with Nate. People would be complaining just as much if Nate got wide open for a three.
Give the Celtics credit for a great playcall and perfect execution.

If Nate beats you with a three, so be it.

In the sequence, KG performs another one of his traditional patent, blatantly obvious moving screens which NEVER get called. But besides that, Thad should be recognizing the guy he’s guarding: Rondo.
Leave him open, it doesn’t matter. Double KG and leave Rondo to shoot it over the defense, or his only other option is to pass to Nate Robinson, who was pretty wide open.
Lou should NEVER be brought in for defensive purposes, ever. In any coaching situation.
