“We don’t have what you would consider a legit two and don’t have really a legit four,” Collins said not afraid to speak the truth. “We really don’t have a guy that you are going to run a play for off screens that shoots the ball like a Ray Allen or Reggie Miller, other then Kapono who will come off and shoot the ball, And Our four men – most of them are centers.”-Doug Collins
Ever since he was hired, Doug Collins has continued to make basketball statements that are absolutely, 100% accurate. I really like the "center" pun, as you all are well aware I think we barely have top-20 centers, tops. When Doug was first hired, he talked about defense at the point of the ball and I'm like "What's that I'm hearing, OMG it looks like he's talking about some man-to-man defense for a change". And now, this piece of beauty.
I've been advocating the need for a big and a legit 2 guard for a long time. Particularly, you see the Lakers, the Celtics, the Magic and even the Cavs of LeBron and they were able to space the floor. The Lakers obviously with their tandem, the C's have KG and even Big Baby stepped up, the Magic have Howard and yes the Cavs had competent big men, Zydrunas Ilgasukas.
I've been mocked and ridiculed for the last several years, egotistical fans(Just to be safe, no one here is mentioned obviously) knew "dedicated" as a laughing stock. And now, this is my chance to laugh. One of the best minds in basketball(their words, not mine) has fundamentally agreed with me on the flaw of the 76ers.
From a psychological standpoint this is great news for me, believe it or not I was actually questioning my intelligence in regards to the game of basketball and whether or not I was just a casual fan spouting nonsense. Despite having watched the game for more than 10 years, with or without Iverson. Collins has essentially said to me, that I'm not clueless. That I know the game of basketball, and that's ultimately reassuring.
As I said in a email to Westbrook36, damn if I didn't know the game of basketball. I'm happy I know the game, or at least if I don't, someone else will join me in not knowing it.
